CD Projeckt Red Talks Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer.
The studio that’s brought us The Witcher has decided to try something they’ve never done before. The developers have announced their intention for Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer.
CDPR managing director Adam Badowski spoke to Eurogamer about the feature saying:
It will be a story-based RPG experience with amazing single-player playthroughs, but we’re going to add multiplayer features.
Open world goodness
Like The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to be an open world game. The main setting of the game will be the metropolis Night City, but players will get to experience other areas in the futuristic game.
Where the games begin to differ — other than the obvious difference in their settings — is that Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be centered around a single hero. The idea is that this will allow more freedom for players to experience the open world environment as well as giving them more choice in who they are. Part of these choices will be in the form of character classes.
Ideal for a table-top based RP
While some CD Projekt Red fans may be looking for Cyberpunk 2077 to adhere closely to the design elements used in The Witcher series, the IP on which this game is based makes the inclusion of multiplayer a fantastic choice. Table-top game s are designed with group play in mind. Players choose classes and build their characters with teamwork in mind.
And let’s face it. When it comes to the cyberpunk genre, friends are always important.
It will be interesting to see if CDPR would be able to pull of a full RP-style multiplayer that could closely emulate the feel of table-top RP games.
What about The Witcher 3?
Eurogamer also asked if The Witcher 3 would see a multiplayer treatment. Badowski stated that they’re “thinking about something”. Yeah… It’s a little vague, so I’ll let you guys take stabs at guessing what “something” would be.
