Bohemia Interactive offers DayZ on Steam.
As of this morning, gamers can now pick up DayZ on Steam. Bohemia Interactive offers the mod as a free download on its own — for players who already own ARMA II: Combined Operations — or as part of a package. The package will set players back $25 and includes the DayZ mod along with ARMA II and ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead.
The benefits of Steam?
While DayZ is one of those games that I tend to end up believing everyone who wants to play it must have it by now, it is possible that adding the mod to Steam will make it more appealing to some people. For one thing, many players associate a certain amount of set-up difficulty with any mod which will make them avoid bothering with it. Making the mod installable with the click of a button in Steam takes away this entry barrier.
On a personal note, just being able to have a game available in my Steam library no matter what computer I’m on makes me even more likely to spend money on it. The ease of just turning on Steam and clicking install has spoiled me a bit.
I will be interested to see how many new players will be introduced to DayZ by it being made available on Steam. I also wonder if a “successful” amount of downloads for the mod will result in us seeing more mods made directly available this way.
If you’re one of those people who have not picked up the game already, do you think you’ll get DayZ on Steam? Or, are you waiting for the standalone to come out — or just hate zombie games and want nothing to do with it?
