Video game publisher, developer NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. and Trion Worlds announced that they have come to an agreement for Defiance distribution at retail, a game that is set to release in April. NAMCO BANDAI will distribute Defiance for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Windows-based PCs at videogame retailers in North and South America.
Defiance is an open-world shooter set in a future earth in which aliens, or Votans, have come to earth with hopes of settling on the planet. Negotiations lead to war which leads to a shattered world. Humans and Votans work together for their own survival against the elements and each other. The game will release in conjunction with the SyFy television show of the same name with events from each impacting the other’s evolution. The game combines the action of a third person shooter with and MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online game) while the story is told on TV and potentially other ways as well.
“With its direct connection with the Syfy television show, Defiance is breaking new ground in dynamic storytelling within videogames,” says Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing at NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. of the Defiance distribution deal. “Never in the history of videogames has player interactions and videogame scenarios had a direct effect on a television show’s storyline and vice versa. We’re excited to see Defiance provide pulse pounding entertainment on two fronts!”
A Defiance distribution deal brings players one-step closer to having the game on their own device as well as their TV. People having an impact on a show by playing a game is kind of a new idea and it will be interesting to see how it … plays out.
