While Bethesda Softworks‘ teased reveal for today wasn’t an announcement of Skyrim DLC or an expansion, like many expected, we’re still not disappointed.

Instead, the company revealed the debut trailer for Arkane Studios’ Dishonored, a new PC game that appears to combine first-person hand-to-hand action and assassination with supernatural powers, set in a dystopian future run by an oppressive regime.

Envision it as the bastard love child of Assassin’s Creed and Bioshock.

The Dishonored website offers a little more info on the game: you’re the Empress’s former elite bodyguard, who now stands framed for her murder. You’ve got a vast array of gadgets and mystical powers at your disposal, and you can choose to embrace nobility or savagery through your actions — i.e., a morality system: “Decide your approach for each mission, and the outcomes will change as a result.”

There’s no release date for Dishonored, but this is definitely one to keep an eye on.

starts off kind of like Oblivion and Skyrim, eh? Bethesda loves their shackles and prisons.

  • StigtriX

This looks so sweet! I love the art style and the graphics. I just hope the gameplay will be as good as it looks.

imo, this is a bit overhyped, wont be much different to assasin’s creed from what i see except that its in fps instead of tps

Looks fascinating, but hard to tell from that what the game will really be like.

    Dear Bethesda;

seriously i already would preorder this. it’s given me an assassin creed feeling with a bit of bioshock, sounds awesome.

    sick sick sick

looks really nice, i like the setting of the game. anyway it’ll be interesting how they implement and balance the powers you have: teleporting & stopping time

Bethesda is just the publisher not the developer.  Remember how Brink turned out?  Looks cool but I need to see a couple of reviews first. I read it plays like Thief, if it does count me in.

Why does every Bethesda game have to start in prison? I mean…. they’re not even Australian.

    • jayremy

True, many of which you are moments away from being killed/executed at that.

    • Jay

Lol it’s kind of a long running RPG joke… Jail and rats, the intro to almost every RPG.

  • Darkfire124

    Steampunk/Assassin’s Creed/Half-Life/Bioshock anyone?

  • http://www.kaiketsu.enjin.com/ Corey Jenkins

This game does look pretty sick. I hope they add some open world elements to it so its not a typical linear fps.

“the bastard love child of Assassin’s Creed and Bioshock.” – YES YES YES…. I only hope there will be TPP

    Wow. Just. Wow.

By the way, folks, Bethesda is only the publisher ! The developers are the guys from Arkane Studios, the French company that created Arx Fatalis or Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
They already proved that they were able to deliver top-notch games !
I am French, but a bit of jingoism doesn’t hurt !

  • Warfox Mihomiti

I really need Bethesda to not put this on current-gen consoles so they don’t have to put everything behind loading screens. It needs to be a real open world game this time.

    • pc11

it looks mission based so it will not be open world

    Wow looks great

Was excited till I saw Bethesda was just the publisher. Nice trailer but not much hype for the game itself until I see some reviews.

If the cars are on rails… You can bet the game will be linear

  • jayremy

I hope Bethesda actually fully finishes this game, many of their titles are either branded with bad QA or released to early, all great games but something always ruins their potential to be truly great. Like Rage, an epic game but felt like 2/3 finished but released anyways both in campaign and in MP. Skyrim an epic game, with many issues from launch status requiring updates, crashes and major QoL issues in gameplay and UI.

Again they have great minds and teams behind their games just somehow a lack of giving a complete or optimal experience. Hopefully the devs, since this is a different team actual pays attention to that.

bethesda is producing it but it is being development team is Arcane Arts

      • jayremy

Well just hope the resources (lazy employees, advice or mandates [whatever causes the unpolished side]) aren’t giving on Bethesda’s behalf that may gimp thee end quality. Not saying it will or doomed, just saying the record speaks for itself, Bethesda still has an influence and possible hands in development stages.

    • pc11

Bethesda indeed has the track record of releasing buggy unpolished games because they are so massive and open world. I can imagine how long QA would have to go on to catch every little thing. So yeah they decide to release the games and patch them as stuff comes up.

This one on the other hand looks mission based like assassin’s creed meaning it will be easier to do QA.

Also the setting alone sold the game for me! Industrial revolution meets steampunk? Awesome!

    O_O bananas

  • DoctorOverlord

Dang.   The style and setting alone is worth some attention.

The gameplay will be the real test of course.

It’s pretty impressive to be sure, we’ll have to see.

Fun to see a steam punk game that got big budget production. This looks really promising. To me it looks like Final Fantasy meat Assassin Creed.

Every game ever published or dev’d by Bethesda begins with you in jail.
