Dragon Commander Trailer Heralds New Official Site

A brand new Divinity: Dragon Commander trailer has been released by Larian studios answers the question “What is a Dragon Commander?” The trailer coincides with the launch of the Divinity: Dragon Commander website and shows off the juicy bits that players will dive into once the game is released.

The Dragon Commander trailer welcomes new recruits to the Dragon Commander Academy with a reptilian guide who is likely a dragon herself. She gives us a glimpse of our new ship and encourages us to listen to the advice of the various parasites we will encounter, but warns, “Don’t let them manipulate you. You are the commander, not them.”

There are a few shots of a board game and even a trading card game that will influence how the 3D RTS set in the Divinity universe is played. “Story decisions earn you cards that when played wisely can influence politics, strengthen your military, bolster your economy and weaken your opponents, says the Dragon Commander website. “Sometimes the winner is simply the one with the ace up his sleeve!”

Of course this is a gameplay trailer, and it certainly goes into what that will look like. We are supposed to utilize the benefits of new bombing and flying technology. “Close coordination between your land, air and sea forces is imperative.” But that’s not all. “By-the-by, since you are a dragon after all, do use your arsenal of unique powers from time to time. Nothing like a barrage of searing fireballs to seal the deal!”

Larian studios has gone to great lengths to make one of the best-looking real time strategy games around, and it looks fun to play too. They have embarked on a global media tour to give press a first-hand look at the new game. The Divinity: Dragon Commander trailer has some footage of one of those events tucked in at the end.

Not sure how I feel about this.  I hate that strategic map and I hate the total war games.  So I’ll probably hate this game too, still, I’ll keep an eye on it.  Seems interesting.  I just want a classic RTS game, even indie developers can make those.  So disappointing to see that only Blizzard is bothering with that classic game type.  Build base and use unit combinations and strategy to defeat an enemy, without a plethora of super powers that make units pointless.  Love Red Alert 1 & 2.  Only one or two special powers that took long to recharge and could easily be stopped by opponents.  Red Alert 3 was horrid, units were near pointless, too many special powers removes unit strategy, it just becomes a game about holding steady until your powers recharge.

Sorry, got carried away.  Anyhoot, game seems somewhat interesting.
