Hawken’s closed beta is finally wrapping up and while gamers will feel the cold sting of sorrow as they wait for the release of the game on 12/12/12, great news has hit recently of publishing company Meteor Entertainment having raised $18 million in the second round of funding.
The new investors from Rustic Canyon Ventures and KongZhong, a Chinese company planning on publishing the game in China, will give gamers a larger pool of players to compete with.
Having totaled $28.5 million in funds the money will go towards ensuring Hawken and other games tied into the publishing company will create a $1 billion dollar free-to-play gaming company.
Investors like Rustic Canyon Ventures have already proven they can pick a winner as they originally funded Riot Games’ League of Legends.
But time will tell how gamers handle the Call of Duty style mech game and the community’s response to the monetization of the game going forward.
