If you’re one of those people whose dream game has always been a 3rd person shooter RTSRPG, then we may have found the game for you.
Dark Meridian is a new Kickstarter project from a little company out of Utah named Talus Studios.
The game gives players a “persistent RPG-like character,” complete with skills and equipment that they can take into battle as a fighter, squad leader or a commander.
The role the player chooses decides how they operate in the game. Commanders are the RTS portion of Dark Meridian. They place buildings, pick technologies and units.
Fighters and squad leaders function in 3rd person shooter mode and may ride mounts, man siege engines and command small AI characters.
The choices a player makes and their general play style will allow him to build a character suited to him.
Unlike a lot of other Kickstarter development teams we’ve talked about, Talus makes no claims to AAA games. They do state that they have a good bit of development experience but that it’s in sports titles, kid/family games and some budget stuff.
Taking that into account, I’m guessing that Dark Meridian is their first attempt at a game like this, even individually. It is their first game as a team.
They certainly have an intriguing premise that merits attention.
