A while back, we told you about a contest Maxim Magazine and Virgin Gaming are running to find the ultimate gamer girl.  At the time I was a little surprised that WoW gamer and YouTube personality TradeChat seemed to be tromping over the competition.

Well, as it turns out, what we were watching was just the entry round of the contest, meaning that up until a few days ago, girls were still allowed to enter themselves in the contest.  What this also means is that starting on June 1, voting begins anew.  As of now, Maxim has pulled the page with all the girls on it, and has a holding page in it’s place.

However, I did snag a pic of the top five list before the page was changed.  You can see that TradeChat was pretty far ahead of the other girls — nearly 50,000 votes ahead of model Megan Retzlaff.

pc games Maxim um Gamers
The rest of the top five is rounded out by GotGame News Live host Raychul, Sony Playstation The Tester season 3 finalist Krysti Pryde and adult film star Alana Evans.

While it was unclear in the rules, I do believe that the scores will be reset to null for the next round of the contest and all the girls will have to work their way back up the ladder.  This may give the competition a chance to even out some, although it does seem likely that everyone who had voted previously will apply their votes to the same girl in the next round.

**Edit** It has been pointed out to me that as for the second round there will be no public voting.

Maxim Gamer Girl Round Two Starts Soon

The vast majority of the “gamers” in that contest weren’t really what I would classify as a real gamer that really does gaming as a hobby and delves into the culture. To be honest Danielle was one of the few in the top 20+ that was an actual legit “gamer”. The rest were models and girls that might have played an IOS game once…

    Go Danielle!

  • http://twitter.com/crocodilius ryan phillips

nothing like being naked to show what a serious gamer you are!

    tradechat is grosssssssss

  • http://www.facebook.com/rhonda.head Rhonda Head

Tradechat is actually a gamer. I approve of her being ahead!  :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=592826577 Harley Kaufmann-Sacrey

Danielle’s strategy here was brilliant. What better way is there to get gamers to vote than use a perk/achievement system? That kind of strategy tells me she’s a real gamer (of course, anybody who knows who she is knows this anyway), but moreover, she understands and cares about her audience. I’m more than happy to support her, and will continue to do so until she wins.

  • Lil Phucker

I think you should of read the contest rules before doing your report. You have it all wrong, there is no more public voting. The public vote was to determine the top 500 entries. So has it stands everyone who entered is in, including the guys. Now independent (sponsor) judges will decide the top 3. Sorry but tradechat does not stand a chance, 95% of the people who voted for her lied about their age when creating a maxim account. Kristipryde has too much ink for this, she is a freak. The porno star is out. Look who the sponsor is, Virgin Gaming, they have no interest in a ink freak, porno star or a wow addict. Check your facts before making a report please.

  • Derek_Sye

If Tradechat doesn’t win, the game was rigged.

    Go Tradechat!

    • Charles Day

Here is a good example of the under age votes tradechat gets.

  • itsJUSTINduh

    Go Tradechat!

Pink hair and skimpy clothes have nothing to do with video games, nor does this story. Real “gamer girls” are too busy playing games to participate in something this absurd (I hate that term… how about men start calling themselves “gamer boys” instead).

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Feyd-Darkholme/100000194391744 Feyd Darkholme

I love it when people get all bent out of shape about this stuff. It’s all in good fun, and means nothing in the end. I will happily call myself a gamer boy and dress in a skimpy outfit if it will make you feel better… Lighten up.

      • Essla

I don’t care that this sort of thing exists, but it belongs in Maxim, not on Gamebreaker. Gamebreaker has plenty of actual video games to cover.
I would be very amused if you called yourself a gamer boy and put on a skimpy outfit. But for it to be the same thing, you would need to enter a contest in a magazine… do they still make Teen Beat? And get thousands of girls to critique whether you’re hot enough and whether you’re a real gamer. Then Gamebreaker would have to post it as video game news. Have fun, I’m looking forward to seeing the comments on that one! :)

      gamer boys?
Oh sweet baby jesus god, no.

       a thousand times, no.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=592826577 Harley Kaufmann-Sacrey

I love how people criticize Danielle for dressing in (somewhat) skimpy clothing for a Maxim contest. I get the feeling they aren’t familiar with the magazine…

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Byrne/100001642673542 Michael Byrne

Ok, I admit that I haven’t really followed this story besides just knowing that it was going on…but can I ask how actual “gamer girls” (I hate that phrase) feel about this? I know that a few of the contestants are actually gamers and that’s well and good…but does this type of contest really do anything to push forward female gaming or does it actually set things back a bit? I am curious about actual female gamer opinions.

    • Old Ben

What do firemen posing with their shirts off for calendars do for the social standing of emergency workers? Does it actually push forward male firefighting?

I don’t think it does, but I don’t think it’s supposed to, either. Ultimately, the fact they they are gamer girls (or firemen) is just an excuse or a “theme”.

Most firemen are actually fat and hairy middle-aged men. And, now that I think about it, so are most “gamer girls”.

      • Derek_Sye

        Amen

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Byrne/100001642673542 Michael Byrne

HAHAHA! A fair point but you also don’t have the fat, hairy, firefighters trying to be taken seriously as firefighters. They are just considered firefighters from the start.

  • Shane Stewart

I don’t know who did the research for this story but did they even read the rules for this contest? Public voting is closed, it’s into the judges hands now and they will pick the 3 finalists. lol.

    • Charles Day

From my take on the rules you made a reasonable assumption. However they will probably allow public  voting, not that it means anything. Personally my money is on Anna Prosser the former Miss Oregon who works in the esports, she seems to be a better fit with Virgin Gamming.

While I have nothing against that tradechat girl (other then maybe she needs more meat on her bones), I just don’t think she is the type of representative they want. One thing that made me laugh about her is the one day I visited her youtube channel and there was some guy talking about how he votes for her 10 times a day with ten different email addresses. Then some other guy called him out, seems the kid making this claim actually had his facebook link on his youtube page and when you went to his face book the kid was only 13 years old. lol. So I am not putting much stock in tradechats vote count considering most of her youtube fans are children who play WoW.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lbronk Laura Bronkhorst

The second round actually DOES have public voting, fyi. The way it works is that judges review the top 500 girls based on votes from round 1 and they’re all semi-finalists. Then they pick their 3 finalists – not necessarily the top 3 vote-earners. (Though we’ll see about that, I guess.) Those three girls are each assigned a topic and they have to record another video. The public votes on the videos, and those votes count for 10% of each girls’ final score. Just figured I’d clear that up!

(Source: I was a contestant, so I spent some time reading the rules.)

    • http://quintlyn.com/ QuintLyn Bowers

See.. I went over the rules and didn’t see anything saying that there were no votes but not anything saying there wasn’t. And unfortunately when I was able to write this they’d reset the page and I could not locate the rules any more.

Two people told me there wasn’t public voting after that so that’s why I added the edit.

      • http://www.facebook.com/lbronk Laura Bronkhorst

Yea, I wish I’d taken a screenshot of the rules. They were written in a way that buried a lot of the relevant information.

Like requirements for the entry video. The rules say it should be less than 3 minutes and had to include certain information. Many girls didn’t follow those rules, which to me (and a lot of other people) means they should be disqualified, right? I highly doubt they will be…but I guess we’ll see. The site’s video upload system was so TOTALLY broken that they can easily make up whatever they need to if they wanted to.

But I won’t get all conspiracy theory-ish – this is a contest for Maxim for crying out loud and started to get taken WAY too seriously! I just hope that when they announce the three finalists, at least ONE of them is a random girl we’ve never heard of before.

      • http://www.facebook.com/lbronk Laura Bronkhorst

(Sorry for the wall of text!)

So…Not being able to find the rules anywhere really bugged me and my OCD brain, so I tracked down a cached version. (This is totally not me trying to prove you wrong, I know you probably don’t care, haha…but here it is anyway!)

“7-3. GRAND PRIZE PHASE – JUDGING CRITERIA (TO SELECT GRAND PRIZE WINNER): Each Pilot will be available for public viewing on maxim.com from June 22, 2012 to July 13, 2012 (the “Grand Prize Voting Period”). Visitors to maxim.com will have the ability to cast a Vote for a Pilot (each a “Grand Prize Vote” and together, the “Grand Prize Votes”). Limit: 1 Vote for Finalists, per IP address, per day. Grand Prize Votes generated by script, macro or other automated means or with the intent to impair the integrity of the voting process will be void. At the conclusion of the Grand Prize Voting Period, each Pilot will then be judged by the Judges. Pilots will be judged based on the following weighted percentages: number of Grand Prize Votes received (10%), telegenic presence, originality, creativity, humor, and adherence to Contest instructions. (collectively, 90%). The selection of the winning Finalist (the “Grand Prize Winner”) shall be within the sole and absolute discretion of the Judges, and all such decisions shall be final.”

wish ppl would stop making a big deal out of “gamer girls” there’s plenty of them out there dam attention whores

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=575571931 Ryan Campbell

I agree. The worst part about Tradechat is that it isn’t even about World of Warcraft anymore. Half of the feed is about “sign this to make me popular” or “look at me in a bunny hood.” I get more information out of Totalbiscuit and more laughs.

  • http://twitter.com/Nathiest Nathiest

Dodger would had totally won this, awe well her lost. Go Tradechat!!!

    • Jado Cast

LOL, I would vote for her.  She’s a real gamer, not a poser. XD

  • http://www.facebook.com/tony.barber.14 Tony Barber

so a bunch of no name bimbos vs tradechat

  • http://www.facebook.com/kelly.gordon.330 Kelly Gordon

Right, god forbid any of the real gamer girls should enter this contest. Any of the girls from the Frag Dolls, Team Unicorn, or any real gamer chicks. Sorry, I know alot of guys think Tradechat is hot but I can’t see her as anything but “slightly cute”. If she didn’t beg her youtube audience for votes I doubt she would be anywhere close in this competition.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sven-Jack-Cept-Janssen/1473006061 Sven Jack Cept Janssen

this isnt about gamer girls..this isnt about games.. or girls..this is about ninjering gold from horny teenage boys. i bet half of the “girls” in this compatition dont even own a pc.. ill bet that they have an iphone that they tweet with at best….and i wonder which PR firm approached tradechat to get her to endorse this shit cos they had to have atleast one recognised gamergirl to make it appear that it was about gamers.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lbronk Laura Bronkhorst

That’s a really unfair thing to say. We may have been outnumbered, but plenty of us “real” gamer girls
entered this contest, too. And I didn’t do it for Maxim, or for
attention. I did it to try to win a position as a spokesperson for a
gaming company and be more involved in the industry, and I did it so
that people who wanted to vote for a normal girl would have the
      opportunity to do so.

Did I think I had a chance at beating out the likes of Panser, Alana,
and Kristi in sheer votes? I’m not an idiot. But not all of us had a fan
following to push us to the top five…I was content with finishing at #17. So please at least consider
      cutting us some slack.

      • Talia B

I live in Canada and I been playing games with my other girlfriends since we were kids. I wish we would have been able to compete. At least we can show that we are true gamers.. but I guess it didnt even matter did it..

        • http://www.facebook.com/lbronk Laura Bronkhorst

That’s a bummer – there were girls from the UK that entered, so I assumed Canadians could too. :(

And there’s still hope! The judges may surprise us all and choose three girls as finalists that are actually representative of the gaming community. (But I’m not holding my breath. ^_^)

    • Talia B

      totally agree

  • http://www.facebook.com/dogbestfriend Wayne Buller

Really? Trade chat? I would call her the two backed monster, as flat as an ironing board, she looks soo rough the tide wouldnt take her out. I fucking HATE gamergirls that go “tehe I am a girl, now give me 5k gold” and thats all she is ¬_¬

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sven-Jack-Cept-Janssen/1473006061 Sven Jack Cept Janssen

THE  ONLY reason that maxim are doing this shit is becuase they realise that there is a market place of horny young boys who sit in thier rooms waggling their joysticks – they dont give a shit about games or gamers..they just want your gold..and if you buy in to this shit you may as well go buy/play all EA games too cos your not a gamer your just a wanker

  • InvaderMig

I vote for Dodger even though she’s not in here.

  • BabyChooChoo
  • http://www.facebook.com/lpeace.88 Leo Lamphier

that doesn’t sound fair to me. resetting the votes? So what if the people got in late. Thats there problem, Panser was winning by a land slide from day one.

  • ryanrocks1

omg cmon ppl, we all know that Megan will win this, shes so far ahead of any of the ladies in the looks department, I mean reallyyyy. Megans votes were real, 1 vote per person and she rocked it in the voting. Have any of you went to her fb? Look at her fans people, shes well over pansers total votes in the last round, could you even imagine what if all of Megans fans voted 1 time per person, her votes would be well over  pansers total votes, with 1 vote per person, omg imagine that. best hope her fans dont come through in the end… that is a if it comes down to fans and votes from fb…. just sayn

  • Talia B

This is so dumb. None of this is even fair.. people are voting for their dumb looks and not even about their gaming skills. I know a bunch of girls who are down to earth and are pretty and have been playing games since Atari came out.. They been playing all the oldschool games.. and even the PC games.. and so on. Why not actually put up a challenge with these girls and see who is good at playing any game at all? WoW isnt even that hard to play… try putting them up on pc’s and playing CSS.. or playing older RPG SNES games… maybe even seeing how they do in some League of Legends or some shit. This is retarded. All these girls can go back home to their mommy and daddy’s house.. or go do their modeling shit and PRETEND they are good at all these games. Useless.

I also think that there should be a GAMER competition. Guys/Girls included. but nope.. its for Maxim and its for the guys who want to fap and pretend that they know that these girls are ACTUALLY good at games. LOL Go home.

  • Revanhavoc

I don’t think there should be any argument that the female body is way better to look at (whether you are a girl or a guy) and if we are going to objectify a gamer’s corporeal form it should be the female form.

I agree with anyone who says the winner should be a gamer first (host, blog, etc) and not just a model looking for exposure.

    (Girls are pretty…)

Wait, what’s that site you are looking at havoc…

(WHAT?! Where? Nothing…I wasn’t looking at anything! *furiously hitting ALT-F4*)

Just for the record Q is my favorite gamer girl.  After her legendary appearance on my unlegendary podcast back in the day she will always have my vote.

  • Snak3_Charm3r

The rules even stated that votes had nothing to do with this contest. Just because someone spams Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube for votes doesn’t mean they should win more than someone else who doesn’t have those resources. It was an interesting contest, however.
