Last month, we asked you to guess how long DayZ players would survive one month — or is that 28 days? — later. The deadline was July 21, but looking at today’s stats on the DayZ site, it’s pretty clear that the totals are over — way over — the 30 minutes we set as the over/under mark a month ago.
As of this morning, the clock sits at a whopping 49 minutes of survival time, way up from the 31 minutes we saw on June 21. With over 800,000 unique players, that means that, if each one logged in right now and survived for an amount of time, equal to the average, they would accumulate a total of 75 years of game time. By that time, even the canned beans might have gone bad.
And how did you do? As the chart shows, about 2/3 of you picked the Over, with most agreeing with me that as people learned how to play, the average survival time would go up. More than a few people, however, had confidence that MikeB and 5hizzle would do their parts to lower the average survival time…
Ed Bennett was probably the most prescient, saying:
Definitely over, I figure it will go up to at least 40 minutes
Congratulations, Ed! We’d go out and award you your prize, but we’re afraid of snipers.
