Today the long awaited patch 1.0.4 for Diablo III is going live. We’ve talked a bit about the class changes and the legendary item improvements, but something new came along yesterday and surprised a few people.
The Paragon System is a new feature allowing players at level 60 to keep soldiering on and gaining exp. There are 100 paragon levels, and upon gaining a new Paragon level players will receive additional bonuses:
- Core stats such as Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Vitality in amounts similar to what you’d gain from a normal level
- 3% Magic Find and 3% Gold Find
- A distinctive and increasingly intricate border around your character portrait. You get a new frame every 10 levels.
So there you go, something else to do instead of farm the crap out of Act III Inferno. They’re also trying to use this system to quell the Magic Find gear swapping issues that have been lurking around for a while now. At the end of the day if you max out your Paragon levels you’ll hit the new MF and GF cap of 300%, also reachable at Paragon level 75 with a full stack of Nephalem.
Some say it’s just a grind they’ve put in to keep some unsatisfied players quiet on the magic find and lack of PvE content issues. Others think it’s kind of awesome that you’ll feel like you’re getting more powerful and receiving something more than just a hefty repair bill at the end of a farming session.
I,, for one, certainly hope this isn’t their final resolution to the lack of “end game” content. Let us know how you guys feel about the new content for D3 in the comments below. I would love to know what you think about the Paragon System.
