XCOM: Enemy Unknown Producer Discusses Upcoming DLC and Mods
3 Comments

If you are like me then chances are high that XCOM: Enemy Unknown has consumed your every waking hour.  And, if you’re like me, then hearing about DLC/mods has you cheering – while groaning at the realization that you will not be getting any sleep any time soon.

Firaxis revealed a few days ago about a new DLC called Slingshot where fans of the series will find a threat has appeared in China requiring the player to enlist a new solider with his own preset facial features and voice.

The three part story arc will have players heading off to three new locations found in the DLC with a fairly powerful reward once the DLC is completed.

On top of this, Firaxis Producer Garth DeAngelis had a discussion with Joystiq about the lack of modding found in the game.

“It’s something that we’d like to resolve going forward, but we still have quite a few things on our plate that have been planned for a while.”

Given the expansive wealth of mods found in their last game, Civilization V, the lack of modding is odd, but time will tell how long players will see any form of mods in XCOM.

Leave a comment below letting us know whether you would have preferred Firaxis building in mod tools before DLC or are you eagerly awaiting story centric DLC?

more customization would be great. so would more voices (of course that one means voice actors)…they had a french female line delivered in like the opening command center cutscene and then that’s like the only foreign voice you hear besides Dr. Vahlen (sp)…cause you know…it’s funny that you get like 10 different male and female voices for your soldiers, but they’re all…..american.  more importantly, more tech would be nice.

I’ve been playing through with a rebalance mod which tweaks some values, as well as Second Wave enabled which is actually a feature built into the game but they kept it hidden because it wasn’t complete for launch.  Modders have since fixed the broken SW options.  it really changes the dynamic of the game.  However, I can still pretty much do some things like completely skip laser assault rifles and go straight to light plasma rifles from ballistic as long as I’ve been lucky/skilled enough to stun a few enemies.  I actually halted my classic ironman playthrough to wait for patches/the dlc so they hopefully fix some bugs in the game, and so I can experience the new missions (hopefully wouldn’t have to start a new game completely to experience the new missions).

I buried over 100 hours into this game within the first week and a half of the game, and beat it on classic non-iron man.  I hope their plans with dlc don’t come out looking like moneygrabs of small content for $$.  would love to know their plans for the future…like a sequel or expanding the story more.

Right now due to glitches/bugs I am stuck on Impossible Iron Man in one area because the game will not let me proceed but I am eagerly awaiting this content update.

The chance at a story arc would be great but I can see why they currently are holding off on new tech trees etc.

Co-Op, please implement co-op :-) , I used to hotseat the old Xcom, but nowadays internet/lan co-op is a must.
