Rumor: Valve To Be Merged With Nexon And NCSoft
25 Comments

All rumors should taken with a grain of salt – or no salt at all – and Valve possibly being merged with Nexon and NCSoft is certainly one of them.

Joongang News reported that during the meeting Nexon, Valve, and NCSoft had during the weekend in South Korea that the talks not only covered the new Counter Strike game that would be hitting Asia but the possibility of a merger.

Joongang News stated that on September 26th the three companies had a meeting in Hawaii to go over the possible merger and to offer Valve $893 million for the merge.

While the meeting could be written off as the three companies confirming what their plans are for Counter Strike at the next developer’s conference, the idea of Valve being sold or merged for only $893 million appears inadequate as analysts like Michael Pachter at Wedbush Securities believe.

On top of this, a Valve spokesman has stated clearly that this is purely a rumor.

I am curious to know how likely you think this rumor is – from never gonna happen to impossible.  Leave a comment below letting us know.

this will be the end of gaming as we know it.

Please no, I feel that Valve is a counter balance to all the mega-conglomerates in the industry.

False. Valve already stated it was a fabrication publicly.

Do you have a link to the statment?   I need to huddle it close like security blanket.

NCSoft has an inconsistent history with the wisdom of their executive decisions.    I wouldn’t want to see their version of Russian (or Korean) Roulette played with Valve.

Yep! Here’s the one from two days ago that I based this comment on : http://www.pcgamesn.com/article/ncsoft-deny-valve-acquisition-speculation-there-no-truth-rumour There are more recent statements from Valve as well though :)

Yes, I tried to place it here but the link didn’t pass moderation approval :( Plenty more public comment recently you can search though

Not real. All those people? The market? And only a 1k millions? You must jest.

  • http://twitter.com/izumicookie Izumi

I don’t think Valve would ever merge with any other company.

  • Deamont

I’m pretty sure that’s all this is  a stupid rumor.

    Gabe will never.

Valve have already publically stated this rumor is false.
I already posted a link to the statement but it’s not been approved to be shown….
So instead I’ll try a cut & paste quote :

“Valve’s Chet Faliszek has rubbished the rumours of Valve discussing a
deal which would see the company bought out by Korean publisher Nexon,
telling GamesIndustry International that there’s nothing of the sort planned.”

    Hopefully this post gets seen….

this might be the tin foiliest of tin foil hat posts ive ever seen.

Tinfoil hat? Face obscuring-tinfoil helmet is more like it!

      But still, “tin-foiliest”…hehe.

No, no! nononononononononon! Leave Valve Alone!

NCSoft has for the city of heros has been a real good game for all ages but for them to shut down
after only the 8 years they put into it,, well they came a long way just to shut down the game
that there not even close to being finsh yet,, my thoughts is for a game i injoy play even when we
have are kids come down to play the game as well for them just to say freak it,, i dont get it
well i hope they do a better job of fighting for NCsoft city of heros to save the game and to add
more to it,,, in my books

I am doubtful that this would come to fruition. For one I have no doubts that Valve as a whole is worth way more then $1 Billion USD. 2nd earlier this year NCSoft stated that they were looking to acquire an “overseas” gaming company. While some might argue this adds creditably to the rumor I say it negates it as I have no doubt that Nexon would end up being the controlling interest in a merger of this bases. This would therefor mean the end for both Valve and NCSoft. Sorry but just don’t see that happening.

Though TBH I would not mind seeing Valve acquire NCSoft!

I remember an article here on Gamebreaker a while back about Gabe Newell declaring he would rather have Valve disintegrate from within than be bought. Valve is well liked in the gamer community and i would imagine the people over there are bright enough to realize such a move as this would jeopardize that. You can’t buy gamer love, it must be earned.

That is kind of a dumb article to put out following an article where Gabe clearly states that they would dissolve the company rather then selling it to anyone.
