So you know that Double Fine game? The one spearheaded by Ron Gilbert? The one that isn’t Double Fine Adventure and that we didn’t know much about?

Well, we know things about it now.

That was fast.

Double Fine and Sega have officially announced a a side-scrolling adventure game named The Cave.  The game features an unusual group of characters who journey into a cave for a variety of reasons.

The Cave will allow players to create a group consisting of three characters.  The characters in the group can be swapped out in order to use their individual abilities to get past obstacles.

While players can complete the game with any of the characters, there are both endings and special areas that will open only when specific characters are in the group.  I’m going to go ahead and guess that to see everything, The Cave will require going through a few times.

For those of us already looking forward to this game, there will be a little bit of a wait.  Double Fine and Sega have given a release “date” of 2013.  Once the game does come out, it will be available on PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and PC — I’m going to guess via Steam.

As always, I’ll be keeping an eye on this and let you know if there are any updates.

    Sounds cool.

Dissapointed to see its not a video game rendition of Plato’s The Cave, but it still looks like it’ll be fun
