Owner of R.U. Game? Offers To Sell His American Dream
7 Comments

Have a few million dollars sitting around and don’t know what to do with it? How about buying someone’s entire life?

Florida resident and owner of R.U. Game?, Shane Butcher, is currently trying to see if people are interested in doing just that.

According to Butcher’s Ebay listing his entire “American Dream” is up for grabs — including 3 R.U. Game? stores, two residences, vehicles and pretty much anything contained inside the stores or homes. Butcher will also be including six months of personal mentorship — to teach the new owner how to operate the business — and a year’s worth of paid leases on the stores and home owners association fees.

Butcher feels that this will allow the new owner of his life to settle in nicely and not have to worry about up-front costs.

The current going price for Butcher’s life is $3,500,000.00 with the winning bidder needing to pay $10,000 after the auction ends.

Oddly enough, Butcher is not the first person to try to sell his life. A gentleman in Perth, Australia posted a listing to sell everything but the clothes on his back, his wallet and his passport.

Butcher isn’t going quite that far as he did stipulate he would want to take some personal items with him.

54k views on the auction, coverage on Fox, links to all his stores and sites…. hmmmm… massive publicity stunt? [As in: if someone actully comes up with the 3.5 mill he'd (gladly) take it, but he never really intended it to sell and just wanted the free business.]

Weird guy, but it is kind of cool to see footage of a store I can drive to anytime I feel like.

I think the real story here is “why?” Why is he selling these stores. Does he see a shift in the used video game market coming in the next 5-10 years and wants out while the gettin’ is good?

Wow, I live like four blocks from the Gainesville store.

Owning 3 retail stores, 2 homes, and 2 or 3 cars does not necessarily equate to successful or rich.

Each of the three stores, along with the homes could be mortgaged, and the cars could be on payments as well. Furniture and electronics stores give ‘no-pay-no-interest’ terms, and EVERYBODY accepts credit cards.

It’s completely possible that his 3 stores easilly cover the cash flow required to make all his monthly payments, and wealth is as much about perception as reality, but it’s also completely possible that he’s under-water or barely scraping by.

Blockbuster had THOUSANDS of stores…until they didn’t.

Most retail business sell for a multiple of roughly 5 times sales. Perhaps somebody can comment on whether or not they think each of his 3 stores is pulling $250,000 in sales a year. (seems possible) Remember that $250,000 in sales does NOT equal $250,000 in profits either.

I’ll sit back and let somebody else pay the 3.5 million thanks.
