Shiny, NEW FORUMS!

Just in case you haven’t noticed… We have new forums!!

Yes… That’s right. It’s been a long time coming, but we finally have a shiny new set of forums that we think you guys will love. They have features that we’ve been wanting for a very long time — such as the ability to “like” other people’s posts, give them points and even virtually stalk… err… follow them.

While they’re still a little under construction and you’ll see some things moving around and changing here and there for a while, they’re pretty awesome.  We’ve got quite a few more well-defined sections, and many of your favorite MMO’s are prominently featured.  We are also working on ways to make these areas more useful to you as players.

In addition, there is a forum for you to discuss the various stories that are covered here on GAMEBREAKER.

So! If you haven’t already signed up for the forums, pop over now and do so! It’s a great place to meet the GAMEBREAKER community. And you might come across some of the GB staff in there from time to time. We’ve even created a place for you to drop off any interesting news tips you may have.

Feel free to let us know what you think. But do remember, they’re in beta mode for now.

This is not a subliminal message.
    *Raises hand slightly*
“You will post on the Gamebreaker forums…”
“This is not the comment section you are looking for…”

Wow, the new forums are easier to navigate. I didn’t know there even was a Guildcast forum lol (And judging that the last post was from 2010, I guess no one else did either).

Originally there wasn’t :) however we’ve decided to add forums for all of our shows for you guys to discuss in. Our handy moderator team have been going through all the old forum posts and moving them into relevant catergories, hence the 2010 post :D

Nope.. Originally there was. I just narrowed them down a long time ago because the older forums didn’t have sub-forum support.

Honestly I don’t understand why you gone with XenForo. Atm they are in courth and being sued by VBulletin … they may lose and XenForo goes bye bye … plus IPB or even VBulletin are better options imo (having more mods, templates, community support etc)

Litigation ended back in Februrary of 2013 with a settlement in both US and UK.

We looked at many forum systems and I have experience with both vBulletin and IPB. I have been working with and do own myself a license to vBulletin, but their forum system is beginning to lack. To begin, the vBulletin forum system can not integrate with wordpress at all. No plug-in exists for it and none are being developed, especially with the new vBulletin 5 bugged system coming.

Next, both vBulletin and IPB, while nice, are convoluted and do have many unneeded in the way features.

When we found XenForo and played with it, it was very simple and elegant, but had what we needed to make it amazing. In addition it came with many fun features and has more plug-ins than the vBulletin 5 system does, which is what is in beta right now.

It was later that I found out the creators of XenForo were the original developers of vBulletin before it was bought out. If you watch the vBulletin community, you would know ever since that buy out, the forum software has dramatically dropped in support and has lost many features as well as become extremely buggy with every release.

In the end, XenForo was the superior choice.

        Thx for reply.

I personally have active license for IPB and for VBulleting not since good old 3.8. It maybe seemed I was for VBulletin in my original post but I wanted to say IPB would be a good choice , if you don’t like IPB then even VBulleting wouldn’t be a bad choice.

Yeah I know that current XenForo peeps where original devs and one of makers of VBulletin.

Just imo , IPB may lack some things and may be heavier but its kinda on top XenForo atm , plus it have WordPress plugin for IPS Connection so you can log in into website and forums with one single log in and it have IPS Nexus with wich you can set up subscriptions and donations plus it support more “paying” sites (CO2 etc) then only PayPal. So everything would be connected.

But hey XenForo isn’t bad choice just wanted to see why you didn’t gone with other two expecially IPB.

        Cheers Alex

I like the look of it… but there is a LOT of bloat going on. There’s too many subforums, in other words. The General and Gamebreaker Shows sections are fine, but below that it gets pretty messy. The MMORPG section in particular. Does it really need ALL those subforums?
