The Steam Summer Sale is an annual tradition, whereupon thousands of gamers realize deals that devalue IPs and hasten the downfall of the gaming industry — oops, wait, this isn’t Origin!

The annual bonanza is nearly upon us, with gamers hotly anticipating what titles they’ll be able to pick up for bargain prices. One intrepid gamer, however, appears to have gotten an early peek at Valve‘s list o’ deals and, while nothing is officially confirmed, what we do see makes our mouths water with anticipation. Highlights include:

If all this is true — or even half of it — then it should be a fantastic summer for gamers.

Now, where can I get Mass Effect 3?

I agree, they need to add ME3 to steam already. No one likes Origin EA, get off your high horse and make it happen. You’ll thank me when you get your sales reports.

    Can’t wait for summer sale!

are you one of these people that’s never used Origin, yet somehow finds a way to criticize it? It’s alot less complicated than STEAM and it works just fine. from what i’ve seen every problem others have had is usually their fault. ex: “i cant find my game code” -they emailed it to you with your receipt.

most people’s problem with Origin is that it’s spyware

        • pc11

This. Many people are not aware that Origin scans and sends info on your system and activity while it is on.

I had to get the damn thing for ME3 but thats it.

No I’ve used it. I tried it out right after the whole thing launched. It was beyond broken and just left a bad taste in my mouth. The customer service is horrible, its rank with bugs and problems of games not even being put on accounts or working.  You can be banned from it and every game on it just for posting on their forums. And to top it all off, it only has a few games that are exclusive from Steam, while Steam has a couple thousand that Origin doesn’t have.

Better selection, better service, I can actually play the games I buy. Why the fuck would I ever use a system that didn’t offer me that?

You can’t go play a single-player game on Steam without an internet connection. So if you’re travelling or you’ve lost internet service, Origin has an advantage.

Also, you don’t really own games on Origin or Steam. You buy a permanent license that relies on the success of the service. Steam will likely cease to exist some day. At that point, will something be done to allow us to play all of those games?

If i can obtain it outside of Steam or Origin and without DRM, I will.

Actually Steam has offline mode, you can load up and play all your single player games in offline mode if you want. You just have to be online once, when you download and install it.

I haven’t recalled it working properly for me in years.

Yea I’ve been using Origin since the launch of Bf3, but there’s not enough community options.

If they just launch their games on steam they will not only make more money, but can leave origin for those who need the simplicity.

People complain about “always online” and DRM. But if Valve does it with Steam, it’s okay…I can’t play single player games offline and if steam ever shut down, I’ve lost my games forever. I don’t own them anyway on Origin or Steam, I’ve only licensed them (DRM).

Origin actually has a nice feature Steam doesn’t, offline single-player play. Like Blizzard, Valve seems to have a community oblivious to their faults. Of course all of this is a matter of opinion, as are a very many things discussed on the internet or otherwise as facts.

To give credit to Valve, they have more practical experience. The client has been out much longer and they’ve locked-down effective functionality and revenue generation. The lesson seems to be: “If you’re going to dance with one of two evils, choose the one that can take you out to a nicer club”.

Actually Steam games are put on your drive and can be played without steam. Also Steam has offline mode that lets you play every single singleplayer game in offline mode where you do not need to be internet connected. You only have to be online once, when you download and install the game.
