System Shock 2 Finally Gets the Wishlist Treatment
I am a huge fan of the GOG wishlist but some of my favorite titles never come to fruition despite high numbers of fans wishing the same way I do. That’s officially changed for the classic survival horror FPS/RPG title System Shock 2. As of today, the game is officially available on GOG. If you have never played – or even heard of – System Shock 2 then you really just don’t know where some “common” survival horror game elements really came from and if you HAVE played System Shock 2 before then you don’t need me to tell you that you should probably play it again anyway.
Enough fan boy service, on to the actual details.
System Shock 2 has received much love from Night Dive Studios. The team gave the game a complete update so current PCs and operating systems will run the older title smoothly. The $9.99 purchase price also gets you a few extra goodies. In an interview with RPS, Guillaume Rambourg at GOG.com confirmed, “We’ve pulled out all of the stops to make this a virtual collector’s edition. In addition to the soundtrack, the GOG.com version of the game will have concept art, maps of the Von Braun, a interview with Ken Levine, the first pitch document, and much more.”
I still look back on System Shock 2 with great fondness and remember it as one of the scariest games I ever played growing up. While I of course know the game will still show signs of its age in some areas, that doesn’t stop me from jumping at the chance to not only play it but pick up some nifty extras for a pretty cheap price.
