System Shock 2 Mods Make Visuals a Tad Less Dated
I recently posted an article about System Shock 2 becoming available on GoG. I wanted to take a minute and give a quick piece of advise to my fellow System Shock 2 fans out there that may purchase the re-released title. I personally prefer the older look for this title, but if you want a slight update, pick up a few System Shock 2 mods right away.
With the game being as old as it is we all naturally expect a certain amount of “aging” to be present on the re-release. While nothing is going to totally fix that except a total redevelopment of the source material, fans can pick up a few System Shock 2 mods that will take a little bit of the aging “sting” off of your trip down scary ass memory lane.
Both System Shock 2 mods are available on ModDB, but I’ll provide links to each separately in the descriptions below.
First up is “Rebirth.” This mod takes care of the character models in the game for many of the enemies you’ll come across. Most of “The Many”, ghosts, and all of the Dead Crew get a pretty sizable polygon count increase using this mod. You can grab this mod here.
The second mod is the “Shock Texture Upgrade” which will take care of the rest of the game. This mod smooths out maps, lighting effects, and most objects and environments. Jump over here to pick up this one.
Together, they make a pretty mean combination for those of you that want to leave 1999 in the past. Personally though, I think I’ll stick with the original.
Which way will you play?
