Looking to relive your MechWarrior board-game memories on your PC?

If so, you’re in luck!

Infinite Game Publishing, Roadhouse Interactive, and A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. Games are working on MechWarrior Tactics, a free-to-play, browser-based, turn-based strategy game set in the MechWarrior universe set for release later this year. They released a brief trailer last week, showing off a game board and some of the animations for units in action.

Like the classic board game, MW Tactics allows players to choose from a vast armada of customizable mechanized death machines and pit them against each other in turn-based battles. The developers promise a rich online gaming experience, including ranked games, worldwide leaderboards, and the ability to play multiple games at once.

Infinite is also the publishing house responsible for MechWarrior Online, so it looks like they’re in the ‘mech driver’s seat for bringing this venerable franchise online.

In fact, one has to wonder if the two titles won’t be in competition a little, thought it could be reasoned that MWT will appeal to “old school” board game fans while MWO is engineered more for younger fans of video games.

Whatever. Just let me blow *#^@ up!

Several friends and I still play table top MW. This could be pretty amazing, once we get to see more of it.

I really had fun with MechCommander in ’98 and I’m guessing this game will have MechCommander’s customization (weapon and tech loadouts, mixing your mech squad) and sort of Civilization’s combat, but not a snaily as Civ. If that’s the case I think I’ll love this, and I’ll put this game on my radar :D

MechCommander is one of those games I go back to every year or two, it’s really great even to this day. The difficulty level on it is great, nothing more annoying that when you are about to complete a mission perfectly then some pesky Commando J comes and crits you and your pilot(Hunter, Lynx!?) dies and you gotta restart the mission ;)

haha now I wanna replay MechCommander! It’s been awhile since I played, but I remember I just had to have all my guys survive :)

I remember getting out of school and going to the Role-playing game store to buy Battle Tech when it first came out in the mid 80′s. me and my friends would stay up all night playing with the little cardboard cut outs of the mechs and go over the rule books with a fine tooth comb looking for every loop hole we could find.

I got my first job at a fast food place just so I could afford to buy the little lead mini mechs and I would spend days painting them to look just right. I dropped over 500 dollars on the mech miniatures I had and still have every single one today.

I would go to the game conventions in the late and early 90s and sign up for the Battle Tech/Mechwarrior tournaments and placed first in my than my fair share of them. I still have the certificates I won framed in a box packed away in my basement along with all the multiple sets of rule books that came out for this game.

I own every single Battle Tech book that was released and my favorite author for battle tech is Michael Stackpole. He could write no wrong. I highly recommend his Warrior trilogy for anyone wanting to get into the Battle Tech lore. Its a great start.

I learned about this PC game awhile ago and I for one will be dropping a lot of money on it as long as it stays true to the Battle Tech rule set. This is a game VERY close to my heart and my gateway “drug” onto the RPG scene when they came out with (much later I might add) the Mech Warrior RPG rules to go with the Battle Tech board game.

I am sure this game is not for everybody and that’s just fine with me. I just hope all the kids that want back flipping anime mech games stay away from my game!

     Long live House Steiner!

I feel old, but yes, I played the hell out of it too.  I still have the lead mini’s.  :-)

Executed right if it is a good game to play casually without putting to much work into basic functions. A nice turn based game I would like on my computer of the day.
