War Z Servers Get Hacked!

Hammerpoint Interactive’s War Z Servers Are Under DDOS Attack!

Hammerpoint Interactive’s Community Manager PatrickKewkBowman has hit the forums to explain the recent troubles with The War Z and guess what? The War Z servers are being hacked.

Not only are they being hacked by unknown assailants but all attempts have been directed at shutting down the game’s servers, messing with the DNS to stop players from connecting. Also Earlier today Hammerpoint’s login server were affected by a DDoS attack.

What is a DDoS?

Wikipedia states : This as a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS). This occurs when multiple systems flood the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system, usually one or more web servers. These systems are compromised by attackers using a variety of methods.

Bowman has stated that the company is currently beefing up their War Z DDoS protection but that there is no word as to when the issue will be resolved.

Given last year’s rampant attacks on a number of companies it is not surprising to see this occur, but a person has to wonder whether these attacks are from a disgruntled buyer of the game.

I am curious to hear what the community has to say and if you missed out on last week’s story where The War Z had their trademark suspended, make sure to check it out!

Oh no! False advertisement and failure to deliver resulted in extreme backlash! Why can’t this sort of problem solving happen in politics? :P

The only thing I saw in the forum post were DDoS attacks and a DNS attack.  Where do you read that their servers were actually hacked into.  Don’t take moron forum comments using the word hacked as truth until the dev actually uses those words.

I thought this game got shut down anyway?

I would not be surprised if some hacking group or maybe an individual finally took notice and decided to take action againts them.  Way too many companies get away with horrible business practices and never get any flack besides some complaints that the company can just blow off.  Some day we will get the power back, I still believe it can happen.

I say to hell with them. They should be forced to take down the game and give everyone back their money for paying for such garbage and deceit.

Curious? My only reaction is “yeah, baby”!

It’s the DayZ 12 year olds that think they can DDoS by downloading a program and typing in an ip. Anyone can DDoS even my 7 year old cousin can. I hope they get caught and thrown in jail because DDoSing is illegal.

    • http://www.facebook.com/kirzansix Mike Coulombe

Yeah but what Hammerpoint Interactive is doing is more illegal.

I hope WarZ crashes and burns… they deserve it after they shit that they have pulled

I actually just did a report on how to protect “a company” from DDOS attacks on Wednesday guess they should have come listen to my presentation. :P Seriously though script kiddies love DDOS because of the ease use and availability of tools, I wonder how many are now zombies in a botnet. Warz attacked by a zombie army, sad really but how fitting. Wow also had this problem less than a year ago.

Did you have in your presentation a bullet point, “Don’t piss off a large segment of your customer base.”

I don`t condone hacking and i`m sure none of the GBTV members do either, but this can hardly be surprising considering some of the practices these guys have been doing.
Sooner or later they were going to tick someone off who had the ability to cause them a lot of work.
    Karma?

I have no problem at all with what happened to the makers of War Z.  At this point I kind of hope their whole project is scrapped and they are forced to start over on another project.  I know I am not alone when I say that the practices and actions of that company or specifically that development team are outrageous and borderline criminal (heck it might be, I am no lawyer).  Putting Z in their name (pathetic, get your own name you crooks), having a fully functioning cash shop when half the rest of the features either don’t work or barely do, lying to their customers, banning people for speaking out.  I take this kind of abuse very seriously, because I am a gamer, I care about the fact that this kind of nasty junk is happening.  They deserve to be taught a lesson, one harsh enough that other companies will at the very least, see it and go, “oh damn, maybe we better not pull some shady, money grubbing junk like that.”

No sympathy, not a drop.  Not one tear.  Make it burn enough that this junk starts to become uncommon and unacceptable to everyone.

Well using Z at the end is not an original idea even for DayZ. But for sure it was their intent to relate their game to that mod.

        • http://twitter.com/AisarGaming Aisar

Yeah that is a good point, I keep forgetting I have no idea which name came first or where it came from.  It’s so hard not to see that name and not give them the stink eye regardless.  Like an annoying, automatic response.

      • Passio1

Agree. with you that this game deserves to crash and burn in a horrible way and that the people involved in trying to pull the wool over consumers eyes should be shunned from the industry.
I haven`t played the game to see what sort of a shabby state it is in, but i also have no intention of doing so either and i would warn off anyone who considers doing so due to the shabby treatment that has been dished out by this company.

Still….i`m not a hacker backer, but it has been good to see the community rally on these people and maybe it will force some distributors to take a look at their vetting practices.
