Want to play an isometric fantasy hack-and-slash dungeon-crawler with connection issues this weekend?

I mean, besides Diablo III.

If you’re looking for something (slightly) different, try out Torchlight II, which has a beta stress test scheduled for this weekend. To get into the beta, you’ll have to sign up for a Runic Games account. Invites will be staggered throughout the testing weekend, which starts Friday at 11:00 a.m. PDT and ends Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. PDT.

If you like what you see — annoying technical glitches aside — you can pre-order Torchlight II on Steam for $19.99. You can even buy a four-pack for $59.99 and send the other three to friends so you’re ready for multiplayer action right off the bat. The game is currently scheduled for a summer release.

If you’re playing Diablo III, will you give Torchlight II a look over the weekend? Or did you pass on D3 because of TL2‘s better pricing? Let us know in the comments below!

    • Jado Cast

Huh, I got it after I posted this, GBTV must be magical! LOL Can I have two more wishes please? Oh crap I just wasted one didn’t I? :-)

  • Revanhavoc

The idea of a group pack is interesting – never encountered this strategy before. Sounds like a great idea for a game that encourages co-op.

Got D3, will get TL2 later. By the time I am done with D3 TL2 will hopefully be out. :)
Would be nice if Path of Exile was out too … hopefully not at the same time!

I prepurchased it on steam for 19 euros and they gave me Torchlight 1 for free as well. Great deal imo.

  • EndrzGame

Passed on D3. Pining away for TL2. Hope I get in on the stress test. =)

  • fallos24

torchlight 2 is also made by the blizzard north guys who made diablo 2. what what

Yup, and it doesn’t have that always online BS, so i’m choosing T2 over DIII.

for a 20$ game they put lot of effort in this game and having lane and offline option made it better.
i saw more monster 30 min in this game then hours of diablo. there will be moding to this game i wonder if its going to be like tl1.  this game seem like diablo 2.5 and i am really happy.

diablo 3 change it a lot from when they when it first when to beta.they seem to have made the game little too casual friendly. my biggest complain is that the online. the problem is erro 37 isn’t the only problem i get. some time the game lag or freeze and i died cause of it. i and this is the only game  that doing this to me. i understand why they need online cause of  people do not hack, also cause of there real money AH. but they should at less give an option to play lane.

I don’t hate diablo 3 but as long time d2 player but they could have done a better job.
BTW i am new to english for grammer nazi.

Torchlight 2 is great so far. Haven’t crashed yet. Pyrofox rages a lot. :D It’s similar to D3 but it’s different in it’s own ways. 4 classes, with traditional talent trees like D2, it has the same style as TL1 which I loved. I also love the pets and there’s 6 addtional pets in TL2 in addition to the original 2 (dog and cat). The pets fight with you, can equip 3 pieces of gear, and hold/sell/buy items for you from town. You should give it a look. :)

Just pre-ordered TL2 and spent 10 hours checking TL1, is it normal for the genre to have 50 items drop every level? I feel the amount of gear micromanagement is getting tedious and disrupts the action too much

Got a key and tried it. Lookes nice, reminds me of Silver in the artstyle and it seems like a solid game but after spending some time in D3 i’d have to say TL2 didn’t feel as good. It’s a lorething too ofc but even gameplaywise i’d prefer D3. The price is awesome!

I’ve been in the beta for about a week now and it is a pretty solid game in my opinion. It pretty much is a continuation of Torchlight with some added features, namely the co-op, over-world maps, four new class variations that you can play as male or female and several new pets to choose from. For me, Torchlight II is exactly what I thought it would be, more Torchlight with the co-op that I’d hoped for. It’s fun and it seems to work well. That said, it is not at the same level as Diablo III, nor should anyone expect it to be, in my opinion. It’s fun in short sessions but it does not give me the enjoyment and satisfaction nor the desire to keep going that I get from Diablo III. But all in all, I feel that it’s worth the $20 price as there is a lot to enjoy in it. Plus it will make a good time filler in between other, bigger games, just like Torchlight was. :)

I preferred TL to D3 so i will certainly be buying T2.

I play both, but generally imo Torchlight 2 > Diablo 3
