In response to fan feedback The Division will release on PC in addition to consoles.
After Ubisoft’s announcement of The Division at E3, there was quite a robust response to the stated plans for it to only be available on the next gen consoles. You might even recall there was a petition put together to convince Ubisoft to release it on PC as well as consoles. Today Ubisoft’s official blog confirmed for everyone who was hopefully waiting we will be able to play The Division on PC.
There is also an announcement video on The Division‘s official website. During the video announcement Executive Producer Fredrik Rundqvist had this to say about the feedback they have received “Since E3 we have been carefully listening to what has been said on the internet, I can’t stress enough how important it has been for us to feel your support, interest and commitment to the game. Your opinions matter to us. The positive energy you bring back to the team will help us create the best game possible.” Rundqvist then goes on to remind everyone of the history Massive Entertainment has had in creating PC games in the past by mentioning Ground Control and World in Conflict. Both of those games were very well received by critics and players alike.
Now the only question left for me is, will The Division be an actual MMO? There has been some debate about this aspect since it seems to have many of the qualities of a MMO, but it’s not listed as a MMO anywhere on the game website. The trailer certainly made it feel like a MMO to me especially at the end where it looks like another group of players ran into the demo group and they get into a PvP fight. Then it pans out to what looks like a bunch of other groups doing things all over the game world.
