Bethesda has announced that beginning tomorrow, Xbox 360 fans will be getting a taste for blood in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim‘s first DLC, Dawnguard.

Players can expect to have a choice of becoming a Vampire Lord – with all the perks of raising the dead, hovering, and sprouting massive wings — among other vampiric abilities.

The flip side of this force of “evil” will be the vampire hunters called the Dawnguard.  Armed with crossbows and the ability to summon trolls –  awesome! — they challenge the darkness and bring the pain.

360 fans almost everywhere can expect to pay 1600 Microsoft points, though players in France, Germany, Italy and Spain will have to wait until mid-July to perfect their Vampire vs Hunter skills.

Sadly, PS3 and PC gamers will have to wait indefinitely until a release date is announced for this DLC for those platforms.

With certain consoles getting exclusive content first, do you buy games based on what platform will receive content first, or are you happy to just enjoy the game in its current form while you wait? Leave a comment below and let us know.

Xbox 360 will always be superior to the other consoles on the market. Always. This is just icing on the cake.

This being a Bethesda game, I believe the correct expression would be “Xbox 360 players will be the official beta-testers for Dawnguard”.

    • Kagitaar

The sad thing is that this is so true.

You know I never thought of that one. Have to agree. Makes me wonder what PS3 will be like then.

PC players have had better graphics and access to free mods since the beginning of skyrim. X-box players can have their paid DLC a few weeks early.

Microsoft is just a school yard bully. Always has been since Gates left the company. So yeah. PC get screwed….again…

Is there an award for finishing first? I really don’t get this obsession some people have with being the first to do something. PC players get to play the same game with better quality, less bugs, and with mods to make the UI less horrible (I won’t say “good”, because that would be stretching it). Who cares if you start playing a few weeks later?

And who makes the OS in your PC, anyway?

I prefer to look at console day zero owners as the beta testers…lol

Microsoft , we need more sales on the xbox : … search 4 most expected thing by gamers that runs on xbox and we have/can get control of // oh look Downguard !!! //

DownGuard dlc 4 xbox first :U

Microsoft bought the rights to release content 30 days early. This isn’t new news.

I have to really question Microsoft’s strategy here. They seem to be willing to risk:

    1. Ticking off players. I would think in the big picture PC players are a larger revenue source for Microsoft then XBox 360 players are. After all we have to but the dang OS from them.

    2. Alienating Developers.

    3. Risking violation the Fair Trade Act, yet again.

All that just to have a 30 day advantage. Why? As a PC player I just don’t get it. I am not going to rush out and buy an XBox just to be able to play some DLC on an inferior system 30 day sooner.

So if anyone can explain how this “Exclusivity” benefits Microsoft please fill me in.

      1. Microsoft is not the publisher or developer of this game. If anyone is “ticking off players” it’s Bethesda / Zenimax. And Microsoft doesn’t get any money from 3rd party games for Windows, so they obviously profit more from Xbox sales.

      2. Which developers would those be, and why would they feel alienated?

      3. The fair trade act doesn’t say that companies must develop or release games for multiple platforms at the same time.

Microsoft benefits because they get a percentage of the sales and because, by having the game come out first for their console, they make that console slightly more appealing than other gaming platforms.

I honestly couldn’t care less who gets it first. I care more about what platform is best (for me) and waiting until the game releases on said platform. It would seem folly to try and chase down gaming platforms based on who gets dibs on multi-platform releases first, since it’s not always possible to predict what kind of deals console manufacturers/game developers comes up with.

However, in this case, we knew XBOX would get the title a month in advance of anyone else, so it isn’t much of a surprise. As a PC player, one might not like it, but it certainly shouldn’t be an incentive to go and buy an XBOX just for this. In fact, even if I owned an XBOX, I’d probably wait for the PC version anyway, since it looks better graphically, I still get the achievements through Steam, plus modding opens up a whole new range of possibilities for future, user created content.

In all, a better deal IMHO.

      Can’t argue with that logic

Personally as a long standing PC gamer I could honestly care less about a small delay to this DLC, unlike the console folks we already have a stupid amount of MODS for the game as it is that do much the same thing for FREE.

I have an Xbox, but barely touch it. Most of my gaming is on my PC. The only reason I bought the 360–okay my third 360 because they keep crapping out–was for Forza 4. I won’t bother getting Skyrim on the 360. Way better on the PC. Especially with ENB.

So sick of PC players laying and down and takin it up the rear with the whole “but we got mods”, “i can wait”, etc etc. Nevermind that they have fucked us over by giving the xbox the dlc first. To that all I can say is FU Bethesda. By selling out to Microdollars, all of youve done is proven that you no longer will get my money, you remember me (us) right….the PC players who bought your damm games before the xbox existed???????????? Take your greed and your xbox loving and shove up your greedy asses. Out.
