All in good fun. A good natured ribbing never hurt anyone. Thanks for doing this piece Quintlyn :D

That a side, I'm stoked about them doing this. Been a fan of VGL for a while but I, like you used to, live in the middle of nowhere. "Video game cultural wasteland" as you called it. I will certainly be subscribing to their stream.

Thanks for the info, folks at Gamebreaker! Keep up the great work.

Thanks for commenting! I honestly didn't think this would get as far as getting back to you guys. I just wanted to let our community know about it. And believe me.. We completely get streaming woes. Although.. As far as the audio delay... Even on your most prepared day Twitch can mess that up. It's a good service but has it's moments.

Like I said below.. I wasn't really upset with how you guys did things. I know your professionals in the performing arts... It's just a matter of learning what works for a new format.

I do hope you guys can keep doing this. I think it's a great opportunity for people who may never get to see you perform otherwise. I know during the years I lived in Mississippi, I had little chance of seeing you without going out of state.

Now that I'm in Atlanta, I really do plan to be in attendance when you're here.

Hey Game Breaker TV, thank you for covering our live stream. I'm the the Production/Stage mgr for Video Games Live. Your comments on the live stream have been heard and we will be addressing them for future casts.

There were a few reasons why we had some tech difficulties. One, our streaming gear didn't make the flight into El Dorado from the night before so it didn't arrive until after rehearsal was over. We literally set up the stream in an hour and didn't get to adjust/test the audio delay (which was very painful knowing it was delayed so much and there wasn't anything we could do at the time) It's something that will be solved next time. We also didn't have all of our video switching gear so we made due with punch in/out switching. And lastly, the audio was a board mix and in the future we'll have house mics that will capture the full mix of the orchestra and audience and should sound a lot better. The issue with speaking backstage during Mario was a poorly planned way of diverting the Nintendo footage from being shown. As Tommy Tallarico mentioned during the stream, we don't have permission from Nintendo to stream/broadcast their gameplay footage. So the idea was "hey let's cut to backstage and show off Tommy's guitars"....well that didn't go over so well, so our bad. Had we had more time, we would of cut another video of something or a different shot of the musicians. In all honesty, this was our first live stream (with multiple cameras and audio) and we didn't think it would get this much buzz. It was a venue where could experiment at no cost to us so we went for it. This has definitely been a learning experience and now we know that any technical difficulty is compounded greatly when the medium is a live stream with live chat. We did learn a lot about what people wanted to see and what people did not want to see and at what times during the cast.

We are looking into streaming our Malaysia show on May 26 and 27th but apparently Malaysia is not known for their stellar internet bandwidth, so we'll see. Sadly, we will not be streaming our E3 show at the Nokia due to absurd fees associated with broadcasting.

Like I said above... I don't think anyone was complaining about the behind the scenes part. It was pretty cool... But there were people complaining about the talking during the music.

It'd definitely a matter of balance. And once they spend more time doing live streams, they'll figure it out. We're already talking about a bunch of professional performers. They will learn what really works and what doesn't for the medium.

But it's a good idea to keep in mind that the live stream was an opportunity for a lot of people who may have never been to see VGL before. I know there were a lot of people there who said they had been to the live shows and were doing all sorts of comparisons about what happened in this one vs what happened in past ones. (Which seemed a bit unfair to me as the fact that they ask the city they're going to what they want to hear makes none of the concerts the same.)

Tommy seems like a very cool guy. And we weren't making fun of him so much as kidding about the situation. Like I said in the video. I think that as they go on, they will figure out what works and doesn't work as far as live streaming over the internet goes.

All-in-all the show was very good. There were only a few technical difficulties and other than people not understanding at first why the camera wasn't pointed at the screen during all the songs the only complaint people had was that Laura and Tommy would talk to the camera while the show was going. And really, the people wanted to hear the music.

I don't think anyone was complaining about getting to hear from them or see Tommy's guitars. It's just that for people who wanted to hear the music, it was ill-timed.

A good thing to keep in mind about Gamebreaker staff... Unless the topic is super serious... We may kid a little bit. It's not that we don't like or admire the people we're talking about.

As Mike said at the end... He was just busting chops.

Let me tell you something, guys.

Tommy Tallarico inspired me (along with Victor Lucas) way back in the 90's to like video games. I've missed that guy since he left to do Video Games Live music, but the show rocks.

Glad to see Video Games Live getting the recognition, cool man.
