I heard about Gaiscioch doing the events in Warhammer Online on the Badlands Server but I was on Volkmar at the time & heard about it too late. I really enjoyed the community on Faeblight during the closed beta periods so decided to stay on the same server for Live. Then came the mad rush & long, long queues which was rough for many guilds/friends to stay with it (instead of jumping to a low-pop server). The fact that Gaiscioch is doing this community-driven event & adding some open-world PvP aspects (not to mention the RPing!) makes all of that super duper worth it! This is going to be loads of fun to participate in. Incoming bard….. ;)

Thanks a ton for initiating this, Gascioch!!! As mentioned in this week’s episode, it’s really not too, too much work & coordination involved in pulling this off (a guild/alliance that has a large vent server would be a great starting point). Hopefully, we hear about these types of events pop up on other servers. It would be great, not just for the RIFT community but also for the game’s longevity.

Keep up the great work on the videos, fellow RIFTers! :)

Gary’s authenticator idea wouldn’t work if you wanted to play the game on multiple computers… like a desktop and then a laptop so you can rift away from home- but it’s a interesting idea if you could assign X number of computers. Much like the way iTunes authorizing 3 computers.

  • Clifton

First of all, thank you very much for taking the time during The Sanctum to give some feedback to the community. I also feel as though I need to apologize for the very long-winded question that I posed. Was running on very little sleep at the time and found it hard to form words let alone a complete and well worded thought.

Personally, while I absolutely respect Jasmine’s opinion, the current implementation of macros in Rift is really the only thing that turned me off about the game. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against using macros; in fact, its quite the opposite. I’m an avid WoW player, and throughout my 5 year stint have used and still use many many macros. It just seems to me, as Gary and Lore said, that the way it is now it seems to “dumb down” the game.

I hope Trion will take a step back and rework their macro system. Imo, it would make for much more complex and dynamic game play if they had more restrictions on what exactly you could accomplish with a macro.

Keep up the great work, and I look forward to next week’s shows.

I am part of the RP-Razorbeast United Association, and i dissaprove of your thoughts Ms. Jasmine!

    • Azris

I agree, I always love getting more leather. I have plenty of Razorbeast hats for sale on my shard. Got to love the easy money.

  • Einchy

Someone please get that beautiful hair some new internet.

  • Amadeus

I find it amazing that Lore and Jasmine think that there will be enough players looking for a dungeon group on each server to allow everyone looking for a group to find one….

    • Azris

It is extremely possible, DDO has a great LFG tool that is souly on individual servers. I would love to see something similar, it was my favorite tool to use on there. Cross server may decrease the time you wait but you lose so much when you do that.

  • Smurfpiss

This is the system Rift put in place so if you want to be the “skilled” player you learn macros and implement it into your play to be the most efficient you can be. Rift has way too much skills and spells compared to other games like WoW. The macro system makes it playable, WoW had a good sweet spot of the amount of skills and spells to be manageable without macros.

  • Thegrimz

Curious, for LFG Tool. Why not have a Option.. Select, My Sever, Or.. Cross Sever. So ppl can choose..? Just throwin that out there. dont see the Harm. not saying it would be easy to make. just a Idea..

    • DeltaSix

Hi, I would like to talk about the macros.

I understand some of the points given about dumping down the game but I would like to also add about people that are handicapped.

I my self Only have one arm & I still love playing MMo & FPS games & I do very well in both I feel the Macros really help this very small part of Trions community.

I still feel there could be some changes & some middle ground maybe cap macros to 4 skills per macro etc.

I love to hear your answers & idea with this in mind with Macros & rift.

Oh & love your show great work.

  • Epicentre-nl

There is something not taken into account when talking about going cross-server with a LFD Tool.
Offcourse you have more players when going cross-server that are tanks or healers, but you will also have loads more DPS as well. (Unless you got 1 server full of tanks and another one filled with healers).

IMO Cross-server LFD only helps out for almost dead servers or servers without tanks and/or healers, but for WoW those server barely exists..

In the end I rather have a LFD tool for my server and not cross-server. I hate the anonimity that WoW brought forth.

  • Macblasta

    Hey guys,

I love all the shows that you guys do. I watch them all since I play both WoW and Rift. My only complaint is that lately I haven’t been able to watch any of your videos on my iPhone, which is what I would usually do. :-( any way of fixing this?

  • http://www.Grimfyrescorner.com Grimfyre

Hey guyz, i just explained exactly what the coin lock system is and how it helps and what to do, on my website http://www.grimfyrescorner.com.

  • http://epix.blueinkalchemy.com Verdandi

I absolutely disagree with Jasmine on the macro thing. “Then don’t do it” isn’t a viable strategy. If you’re gimping yourself because you want to hit more than 1 button, that’s a gameplay flaw, not a personal choice; there is no choice, as people will always do whatever they can to be the best, even if that means hitting only 1 button. Ask anyone who played a hunter in BC; it’s not like they could choose not to use the 3-2 shot macro if they wanted their DPS to be competitive.

  • robyk

I was hacked and i didn’t got anything back, i had about 160 gold and some stuff at AH ( i don’t know the appropiate rift names ) and when i logged in i had 20 gold and nothing at AT :(

    • http://notadiary.typepad.com/ Alysianah

The macros don’t really work that way. I am a cleric and have some macros. Even with them I have 3 bars of hotkeys necessary to heal. I’d be shocked if you can play EFFECTIVELY with 1 or 2 button spamming. You’re not reacting optimally- ever. You completely remove the ability to be responsive to specific cases and that’s what distinguishes good players from average players.

  • KappoRDM

I’ve never understood the point using those “win button” macro set ups. These young mmo players (meaning newer players, not age) expect way too much to be given to them. Knowing when to do what, and being able to react quickly and situationally (use to be) a big part of playing an mmo. I agree with Lore. Bad players should not be on an even playing field with good players, by simply writing a clever macro, or using some third party software. Play the game folks, don’t let something or someone play it for you.

  • Phanthoma

@IRLJasmine macros are bad, if you are terribad at the game you shouldn’t be able to compete with the good players just because you can macro everything and your view of “it’s a level playing field because everyone can use macros” well everyone can buy gold too, does it make it fair in your view to buy gold then? How about hacking? Everyone can do Google searches and start hacking does it make it fair because everyone can do it?

Seriously if macros do the things at the extent Lore is saying they are hurting the game just like aim-bots in FPS games.

    • Waswat

Macro’s and hacking are two entirely different things.
Everyone has the freedom do macro their abilities together in rift and it is definitely legal whereas the same cannot be said for hacking. You’re comparing pears with apples.
I agree with jasmine on this, and would like to add that a fight should NOT be about how ‘well’ you execute your boring, routine rotation but rather how you respond to for example when there’s fire on the ground, when you should interrupt etc etc. Fights are more interesting when they’re more dynamic like that, instead of relying on the difficulty of your class to keep fights interesting.

      • Phanthoma

Then why bother with any abilities in the first place? Lets just have auto-attack button so everyone is on level playing field and then there is zero skill involved. If you are so terribad at the game that you can’t even master your own class what does that say about you? And your argument is so retarded that I can’t even began to argue about it. Seriously is your rotation hard to learn, say in, WoW? The answer is no. It doesn’t take all that long to learn basics of your class, but I do feel cheated if some noob who can’t learn his/her own class just picks up the class I am playing and by pressing one (1) button deals the same DPS as me it just encourages people to FoTM reroll because there is no learning curve just copy/paste the best DPS macro from some site and you are good to go.

  • ricopetro

Hi Gary All of your shows are great……PLEASE loose the fur coat you are a beautiful ginger man and that coat detracts from your looks. You can not be jealous of Lores hair and try to make up for it with that awful coat. As for
Jasmine she is a ginger goddess and the two of you would make beautiful children.

  • Corbus

Is it possible for Josh to get a better Camera.. new studios are nice and all but not very cool if we cant see it.

  • Sygon

Jasmin.. annoying. One button mash macro is lame.

  • http://notadiary.typepad.com/ Alysianah

Please dont come to Faeblight. We already have a queue at prime time. People coming just to look will suck for those of us actually leveling there as our primary home. :-( OH NOES

  • http://notadiary.typepad.com/ Alysianah

P.S. this is a lot more restrictive than playing WOW and their macro system. So Josh got over in WOW, he can certainly deal with the very limited and dumb-down version of macros in Rift. How much skill does it take for me to rebuff myself when I’m using my Shaman soul. Do I really need 4 different buttons to put up the same 4 freaking buffs I use? That’s not skill that’s tedium. I’d rather have the WOW version where all 4 can be on the same button but each required a separate key press.

    • wowfan

good luck stay in wow, thanks god

  • Cogzwell

I want to Work at Trion, i am saying this right now. I love them, and would love to help them create.

  • Caltu

    I hardly ever comment :S
    Can only say sorry.
This weeks episode was great! However LFD is somthing tehy need to look on in ALOT of depth!
It seems to ruin the MMO in the MMO, many people seemed to like the old WoW LFD.
Personaly I dont want one at all, either go to trade, go with guild or wait to be asked for it.

  • Janzy

Firstly, thanks for the great show. I’ve only just finished watching this episode, now I’ve subscribed, and will watch the other shows to catch up. I’m an wow-refugee, and loving Rift atm.

About an LFD system. I want LFD – trade chat isn’t good enough for those that don’t live in the same time-zone as the server is. Also, the last thing I want to do is to SIT IN TOWN while I’m waiting for a group to form. This is totally unproductive time. If you have LFD, at least you could be questing or grinding or farming while you wait. I’m also hoping that it will have cross-server capability. Since there are no time-zone specific servers setup as yet (please Trion? hint !), the server I play on is in USA, and if its 1am there, my time is 7pm, which means that there is virtually no-one on when I want to do a dungeon.

  • ManWitDaPlan

Nice show! Strange hearing my name mentioned on a podcast, hahaha…

The turnaround was actually two hours and ten minutes from when I sent the exploit’s replication details to when Trion took the server down for the fix. (Aside: I tested the exploit and it’s definitely fixed.) I don’t think any company has ever turned a fix that fast in practical application.

Trion is definitely deserving mad props for how they reacted to the crisis. (Also, Scott Hartsman and Steve Chamberlin and the rest of the crew are very cool people to talk to.)

As for rollbacks and fixes, now that the exploit can’t be exploited any more, they are working their rears off to get the hacked accounts squared away. It’s -going- to take time, though, so everyone needs to try to be patient.

“Crush the hackers, see them driven from before you, and hear the lamentation of their women!”

  • Phantomx16

I love that this panel really thinks that Blizzard wouldn’t think twice about getting the lead tech guys on a problem like account security. That’s 12million subs, authenticator or not.. any mmo company would be very interested about people figuring out their servers login account security. To hand that off to some half dim witted person and not the lead person on their security/tech team is laughable. I know you guys are goo-goo for Rift, but Trion isn’t that great. They are just acting like any company out there.

  • Tatlreach

Lore/Jasmine need to press a buzzer every time they start talking.

  • Tatlreach

I’m sorry Jasmine but, an opinion like that on macros is something worth getting kicked off GBTV imo.

Scenario: dad sets up a one button macro and his five year old levels to 50 and actually does more dmg in dungeons than you with it. Removing any sort of skill check from the game makes it basically a social medium or grindathon.

Over simplification like this is gaming 101.

  • Zipties

I agree with Lore about the macro issue. I think that the ability to have all of your abilities that are reactive and off the GCD on one button really takes the skill out of the game. I have canceled my Rift subscription due to the boring PVP @ 50 and the macro issue.

Even if you say that both parties can use the macro that is just taking a lot of the learning and skill that make both PVE and PVP fun to me. If you take the skill out of the PVP with the macros all that is left to impove as a player is gear and tactics / situational awareness. Please Trion see that the reason other games choose not to allow this type of macro system is that t only hurts the players in the long run and make the game less enjoyable for the non casual / lazy players.

Other than that Great show as always, hope that monsoon rift closes in the new GBTV studio.

  • Tuarath

@ Coinlock & Blizzard – I am not sure if everyone is aware but Blizz has similar working system already in place. But it is not in game per say.

In a situation that you attempt to login from location much different that your usuall one (for example basing on you IP range address you moved 2k miles in 15 minutes) you account is instantly flagged as “Hacked”.
Sure you cannot login and do stuff with you char. But you account is protected.
There is some hassle with all the “authenticate yourself” steps but came on I would rather have this in place than go over recovery of all that has been hacked over and over again.

  • Vega

But why do the wait time have to be different from realm to crossrealm on the dungeonfinder tool? If you have 100 dps, 4 tanks and 13 healers on each realm and the wait time would be 30 minutes for a dps. If it was like that on all servers the wait time would still be 30 minutes in total. Just because there’s more servers doesn’t mean there’s twice as many tanks/healers as there is dps. There will always be a lack of tanks and healers, that’s just the way of MMOs.

Btw love the show just hoped you could shed some light on it and maybe tell me if I’m wrong.

  • Flexen

    As for the boar issue…

I have seen shiny cars drive in the African wilds and subsequently attacked by a rhino. Just like Gary said, the razorbeast does not know the difference like the rhino.

  • Cant seem to find this on iTunes. :(

  • Scizor

One thing about macros: The use of attack points, conviction, combat points, and further. If you set a mcaro for that, you’ll never get the most out of the ability. So a little skill is required

  • Mocha

The real problem with DPS wait times comes from the disproportionate amount of DPS players in MMO’s and not from a lack of total players wanting to play a dungeon. Wait times on a game with fewer subscriptions will not necessarily be longer given the same ratio of tanks/healers to DPS.

For example, if you have 10 players total with 1 tank, 1 healer, and 8 dps you will have 5 DPS who have to wait. If you simply double these numbers to 20 players with 2 tanks, 2 healers, and 16 dps you’ll have twice as many people able to play, but also have twice as many people who have to wait. The wait time is due to the percentage of tanks and healers you have and not the sum of the total players. After all, in an ideal world with as many tanks/healers as necessary, you only need 5 players to make a dungeon group.

With the flexibility of the soul system and the ability for players to easily fill multiple roles with a single character, I would actually expect queue times for dungeons to be shorter in Rift than in WoW regardless of the number of people who end up subscribing to Rift.
