  • Domovoi

I couldn’t watch the actual presentation. The cosplaying host made me want to punch my monitor.

    PLANETSIDE 2!!!

  • Doransus

Sorry to say…but that SOE FAn Fair was not too good. Very little information. In my humble opinion…EQ must die. It would be like WOW sticking arround with outdated graphics while WOW2 (Titan) comes out. The new “engine” concerns me as well. They said that it will “scale with the computer”. In other words a low end computer will be slogged down completly and have to play the game at the lowest settings or have to drop who knows how much for a nvidia card just to play at medium settings. WOW had the same problems. They would increase the polys and the bits and older comps would have to play at a lower setting. I had to do it myself. Though I will hold my final judgement untill Planteside 2 comes out and then we will see how well it will “scale” with the older comps.

    • lyck

Honest playing with frends is for many more important den graphics.

    • MMO_Doubter

“same problem”? It was one of the reasons WoW was hugely successful.

I think having the option of playing it (even at lower graphics level) is a lot better than not being able to play it at all.

      • ric

Emotion!!!??? how well can I see someones face with my camera scrolled all the way back

  • Bashiok

I am glad gamebreaker is getting bigger. ‘The Raid’ stream would bring a lot of new viewers too. Way to go GG.

  • Galdstaff

Oh man, the only thing i could think of with the Clone Wars preview was “DO A BARREL ROLL!!”

  • Chris

    wow they lied flat out

MMOFPS. ummm WWIIOnline which is a MMOFPS and that game was released in 2001.

  • Dennis

the best part is the intro with mike b and gary the rest of the ENTIRE video is balls boring.

    • Toby

Great job reporting this guys! :D

  • http://joelstern.net Joel

This was nice.. but why does no company top BlizzCon? I mean like seriously..?
Blizz only spent 2,1 million on BlizzCon 2010 which is 0.3% of what they make per year. For SOE it would be 3.2% which is still a lot.. couldn’t they spend it on a bigger convention?

  • Slothir

Very nice show by gamebreaker! I liked the way you did the talking and the setting. The SOE things could not interest me much tho. But well done anyhow!

  • JoJo

You drove to Las Vegas and spent hours setting up your cameras and feed for this?

  • Scott

Gary and Mike – great job, but even you guys couldn’t save this god-awful debacle. As a long time SOE player I was desperately trying to cling on to something to give me hope for the future, but could find nothing.

Green lady should’ve had 3 minutes max, not half the keynote, where it seemed even she wished she didn’t have to be up there so long, fumbling around for something to drone on about…

Everquest Next: All we get is ONE freakin’ frame?? Smedley proudly explains how expressive the guy looks, and wants to make that a prominent feature in the game… and then…that’s it. WHAT?? Even Smedley seemed embarrassed as he apologized for not showing anything else, darted his eyes around, and quickly moved on. Better to have not even mentioned it at all. It’s just sad.

The Planetside 2 presenter (lead designer) was so shaky and nervous, as I listened to him I just couldn’t believe he was in such an important position. He came across like those contestants on American Idol, you know, the ones with the deer-caught-in-the-headlights look before they sing something terrible. And the quick video was nothing inspiring or different from any other FPS (from what I could tell from the feed – am I wrong?) Considering the time they spent praising the new engine, you would think they would try to show it off more.

At least the show was in Vegas. Taking in a Celine Dion concert would have been more enjoyable (and news-worthy)

  • Grimfyre

I think you guyz should create a show for SoE or at least Planet Side 2 or EQ next in the future.. I found it a lil strange that they had you guyz stream this event but you dont have any shows dedicated to any of there games lol. But i’d love to see if you guyz make a show bout it, even if Mike B is with you for a Planet Side one :)

  • Never

    Everyday I’m Shuffulin.

  • Darkfire

I think they are keeping EQ Next under wraps for even longer because of the interesting things happening in the other eq games. From a business standpoint they are thinking they may hurt their other games by letting us in on more.
I have to admit that some of the things sound very interesting indeed, particularly the dungeon maker, however nothing could make me go back to that game or even the original. EQ1 was my first and most beloved mmo, but I have moved on and no longer have the time to play these types of games. Ive resigned myself to the fact im now a casual player (almost exclusively console now) and as such find it difficult to justify any type of monthly fee for the miniscule time I could play online.

Now if EQ3 were to come out for the next wave of consoles (next xbox for instance) I could very well change my mind, in fact I probably would despite all my past grievances with SOE, because I just love eq so much (when done well).

    • MMO_Doubter

You can forget SOE ever doing another MMO well.

  • Skeptik

    Hey gang,

First I just want to say… I LOVE Gamebreaker.

But for realz.. there was something that I heard, that kinda blew my mind, and I know (as a Planetside fanboy myself) it’s tuff to think about anything else.

That being said.. EQ2 adding Player created Dungeons/Raids/Content.. OMFG.. that right there will be turning the MMO community on it’s head.

Now don’t get me wrong.. I had a blast with EQ1, and EQ2. However I don’t play them anymore..(Wow fanboy) but This.. COULD actually be THE wow killer.. I mean the real one..

I hope in the coming weeks on Gamebreaker this topic gets discussed. And not only in the context of the Everquest franchise. I would like to hear what Rift players, and wow players think about this.. I mean really .. this mean no more running out of content, No more grinding dailies, and standing around in Orgrimar because you ran ZA/ZG 37 times this week, and are already locked out of your 1 raid ID…

Anyways.. I ramble alot.. So .. (You should put me on Legendary!) .. lol

    Peace Bros,
    Skeptik

    • Inyori

Ehh…I’m not holding my breath when it comes to the player created content. It’s been done before across many different genre of games. The same things tends to happen. You have the three or four people that take the time and have the skill to create an amazing encounter, map, etc. Then you have the hundreds of people that don’t take the time or just don’t have the understanding to design a fun yet challenging encounter.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not a big fan of having to design the content I’m going to play….might as well just start my own game company. =)

      • Skeptik

        @inyori

I would almost agree with you on this, However.. I like to think outside the box a little bit.

Look at the Little Big Planet franchise. It would silly of any of us to completely write off player created content on a whim. I think with proper implementation, a proper set of tools, and the ability for the community as a whole to police said content, could very well make this an incredible addition to any game.

So your quite possibly right, It might be a horrible idea. However I think when it comes to the EQ franchise there are a few things that need to be noted.

        a) The EQ community is NOTHING like any other community out there. These people are dedicated, helpful, and lacking in that “/2 attitude” we find in most other game.. .nudge nudge. Now don’t get me wrong .. I am not saying these things do not exist, but anyone who has spent alot of time in these worlds will tell you… it’s few and far between compared to other mmo’s

        b) Love em or hate em, Sony themselves have ALWAYS said to their fans. “We strive to bring you new ways to play, and be the first to do so.” This is VERY true. I have played most everything in the current SOE library, and although I have found other things along the way. I definitely gave a lot of these games a VERY fair go. You cannot deny that SOE had A LOT of firsts.

        c) Anyone who has spent some time in the EQ community knows that they already have Player housing/Guild housing. And there is seemingly endless things you gather along the way via questing/gathering/events/crafting to build your home/guild hall. And I have to say. If you haven’t seen what people are doing with this .. It’s time to get on EQ2X specifically to troll people creations .. I have got to tell you .. I have no doubt in my mind that the EQ community above all other community will embrace this concept and make the best of it by far.

So yes, to make a long story short. I agree with you .. it “Could” be a massive failure. However with proper implementation, I’ve no doubt in my mind that the EQ community will undoubtedly start to show us very creative and very fun content.

Also .. from an old MUD dev, film maker, and just plain creative minds point of view… this is an incredible, and invaluable tool. How crazy is it as a dev to be able to go and essentially troll content that the players of your game are making, and be able to gather ideas from it and implement new content that your team may not have ever even considered.

This could very well be one of the most amazing things an MMO has even tried.

        Peace,

        Skeptik

Neverwinter nights adding player created Dungeons//Content to and sto have the Foundry.

  • Syce

Gary or Mike. Ask Smed why he lied about Planetside being the world first MMOFPS?

WWIIOnline was probably the True First MMOFPS. it was released in 2001. 2 YEARS BEFORE Planetside released.

  • MMO_Doubter

UGC is the wave of the future in MMOs. There are tons of amateur game designers itching to make content. I played NWN. I know how good it can be.

It is too good an opportunity for MMOs to get ‘free’ content made. Most MMOs will have it in SOME form.
