Patch 1.4 is here! A new PvP trailer is out, a new epic quest chain and a new mount.

  • Chris

So fast! thanks, couldnt get up early enough for the live show.

    • http://irljasmine.com Jasmine

      Internet magic!

  • Dodox

    Epic ‘V’ Gary!!

  • Dennis

    i like the new guy!

  • Anthony

Substantial improvement? I’m still waiting hours on end in the queue as support.

    • http://irljasmine.com Jasmine

Really?! Wow. I queued up as support as well and it was instant. That sucks! :( Are you level 50?

      • http://www.skeletonjack.com/ Skeleton Jack

I que up as dps (the longest que times) between midnight to 5am and I’ll get into multiple instances in one evening now. Whereas before I’d be lucky to get one dungeon in, let alone two. The cross server functionality is a dramatic improvement over the previous iteration.

  • Anthony

And excuse me sir, but Mr. Leroy Jenkins was not a noob.

  • azdrad

    love the show :)

  • lyck

i like the new pvp guy!
now we need a new pve raider host.

  • Orshek

Ed was awesome! Not as talkie as the rest (not that I mind the talkie), but all of his points were good points. So many good points = should definitely make him a regular. Good to see a PvP representative on the show.

  • Kraken

I like the new guy. Ed was it?! Give us more of Ed.

    • http://irljasmine.com Jasmine

      Agreed! :D

  • digibluez

they should make a new Wf map instead of this, but oh well, sigh. at least i can dream

    • http://irljasmine.com Jasmine

I definitely agree a new WF map would be really nice. ><

  • Heath

I really don’t like that they removed the quests to get quests. That was awesome. Now buying them just feel lame!

  • Azimov

So what happened to episode 28?

  • http://neurogamer.ro Baigon

I like this Ed guy. He’s a really “let’s get to the real point of the whole discussion” and he does it with great efficiency. Kudos to him, get him more on Sanctum, he makes a great addition to the 2 other crazyheads.

  • Greatness

5am and got a instant Q for normal AP?

Couldn’t be that the epic quest chain start with a NPC in AP?

Believe me in a week or 2 you’ll be back to waiting hours for a normal AP if you are DPS.

X server will end up just like it did in WoW. Horrible, because people know they’ll never see you again. Every day after it came out in WoW people got more.rude each day. Until you just hated even Qing.

  • Scarhavok

Great show guys! As others have said Ed is a great addition! With the introduction of 1.4 i’m running PvP rifts all day long and having some great world PvP! Whitefall escallation was awesome, pity its over though!
Also i’ve been in a few cross server groups so far and they’ve been fantastic people! The only con so far is that they are on other servers and I can’t add them to a friends list! Anyway keep up the great work, look forward to next weeks Sanctum!

  • Ricksterness

Great new host. I hope he can come back for future episodes.

    • Shridradax

Great show guys/gal. I would echo the sentiments that Ed is a great addition. Its refreshing to hear from someone with a PvP centric PoV (To be fair Pokket is also into PvP). What makes Ed extra special is that he is another lost soul from WAR online. I really miss the 100+ player RvR. Thing of the past I am afraid, nothing else seems to like it atm.

Perhaps its asking a lot, but as I have not had the time to PvP (still spending my time PvEing) it would be interesting to hear or read in the future Ed’s view on how suffocated the PvP (instance type as well as open world) is compared to WAR online. From the WAR Online forums one would think its not, but then you have to consider the source with the die hard WAR players.

And shame on you guys. Stop making fun of Rebecca Black. Don’t you watch ABC Nightline? She and her mom are geniuses according to Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. Its Friday…..fun fun fun

  • CygnusS

I am new to Rift, only been playing for a few weeks, but have played WoW and Warhammer and by far Rift is the best I have played. I never before bothered with web based chat but this show is AWESOME. Jasmine, Lore, Gary and Ed all rock and I have begun watching the past episodes because I enjoy it so much. I haven’t seen it yet but I would like to know what shard everyone is on so perhaps with a bit of Grinding I too can play with the Sanctuary Crew.

Keep up the awesome work everyone and I can’t wait till the next episode.

  • Mike

I understand it can be frustrating, but if you are above level 48 or so, it really take no time to get rep with the Dragonslayer Covenant… a few quests in shimmersand or 2 or 3 runs in charmers caldera and if you raid, I dont see how you didnt already have it

  • Mike

I think it was a mistake to take out the soul quests out, it now cost a full plat to get all 5 of the basic souls you dont start with. Before you actually a made a little gold doing them as well as earned some planarite. I also would have been a fan of actually putting in a real chain to get all the souls, perhaps a way you had to go into an instance and release the souls of all the calling, perhaps a low level dungeon to do this. Maybe add this in a future patch as a solo/duo dungeon for low levels.

Whitefall Steppes – As pretty much everyone in the show said the Escalation version is so much better than normal. To bring the point home, my roomie was watching me play a normal WS from the beginning of the match. And the first question he asked was, “Why is the other team is running down one side of the map, and you guys are running down the other side? Everyone is ignoring each other. That’s stupid.” I really can’t put it better.

Escalation drives the level of strategy and tactics in the match to a much higher point with stealing shards, distraction tactics to pull key fighters from mid, controlling mid, etc… While their original design was for this to be a rotational weekend only deal, I hope the community is vocal enough that Trion will consider letting this replace WS normal. As Lore said, WS Escalation is when WF becomes fun.

About 20.35 min in – Lore’s face at Jasmine with the upwards right look to where she’d be on the screen = priceless, lol.

Soul Quests – new players didn’t have an organic way to understand how to do them and what to do. More often than not they’d have to ask for help just to get a clue as to what was going on. Also existing players rerolling alts complained that it felt like a tedious grind getting their Souls.

Most likely Trion saw the quests as a needless mechanic that caused more problems than good. Facing the choice of spending development time in making these “dynamic” quests (or at the very least “immersive”) and easier to understand or moving on to other projects that would appeal to the larger customer base, it’s pretty obvious where they decided to lay down their chips.

Bugs – I’ve spent some time listening to people from PC software engineering realm speak a few times, most recently the Keynote at Quake Con. Tangent: Which is a very good listen if you are into understanding the games industry from a Dev Team perspective. You just have to get past the techno babel which will go over your head. /endtangent Back to point, the bug process is very interconnected.

Most “software guys” have their own form of coding and workarounds to make stuff work. Which translates into a lot of inclusive coding that hangs of very specific criteria. Then when you see new patches release that expand that criteria, no one goes back to update the prior parameters for something “apparently unrelated”. But in actuality it is interconnected.

Long story short, most computer code guys in game software don’t do code “by the numbers”. They have their own style. In the long run this leads to a great deal of patch errors down the road because you have to constantly go back and readdress old software that wasn’t coded to keep new content/code in mind. They don’t write their software to be truly modular like they should from the start.

    Enjoyed the show guys.

  • The Doc

Ed. Is. Awesome. Please bring him back!

  • ed

    Awesome show. Ed is awesome.

  • Jace

    Thumbs up for Taugrim.

  • Vered

Guys, why not just make it optional to queue into a dungeon with people from YOUR server? Problem solved, no?

  • Jupiman

the interesting thing about the dragonslayer and the water saga is, that when you’ve hit decorated with Dragonslayer, the new dialog for that one NPC in Wyrmbane Spire appeared even before 1.4 hit the servers. Dunno if that means, that they already had that in mind when they created the game. When I first noticed that new dialog I was kinda wondering what’s that for and thought that I missed something.

  • Petz

New guy Ed gives a great pvp view which the show is missing

  • http://www.roughnex.eu james neish

Great show guys! keep it up

  • http://irljasmine.com Jasmine

I’m really glad everyone is liking Ed so much! I’m responding to this “Ed is awesome” comment out of all of them because your name is also Ed which makes it kind of funny. xD

But I agree – Ed is badass. :D

  • http://irljasmine.com Jasmine

I do agree but I don’t think it would really work out as well as I would personally like it to. Before the LFG tool became cross-server it was taking a pretty long time on a lot of servers to actually pop. Based on the reactions I’ve seen in the RIFT community I think most people are really happy to see faster pops with the cross-server LFG tool. So unfortunately I don’t think enough people would queue up for a same-shard option now to actually make it work. :( Which is sad – I was one of the people who wasn’t especially happy about cross-server LFG. I definitely prefer the faster queue times but I’m sad we couldn’t make it work with just single-shard LFG.

  • http://irljasmine.com Jasmine

I definitely get the tie in to the story but I’m still kind of disappointed that there’s this step in the quest chain that may or may not be a lot of work depending on what you’ve already done. I feel like there could have been a new faction, or a sub faction, to grind out so *everyone* would have the same quest chain to do instead of some people getting to essentially skip one part entirely depending on how much faction they already have. :( (Technically they already *did* this section but you get what I mean. xD)

  • http://irljasmine.com Jasmine

    Glad you liked it! :D

  • http://www.skeletonjack.com/ Skeleton Jack

Reiterating what Jasmine said because some people may not have gotten this perspective from what she was saying.

If you are going to release brand new content, such as a massive quest chain with awesome cool new stuff, then it should come out putting everyone who will attempt it on even footing. The issue isn’t that it requires faction grinding, or that you could have done it before or after. It’s that it “feels wrong” letting some people blast through it because of previous work they did before the content was even released while others can’t.

At the end of the day it’s fair the way they did it because you could have done the work at any time. It just gives players a crappy feeling when they see other people finishing it already and they can’t, because they never chose to rep grind that particular faction. Especially when you didn’t give the players even a heads up they may want to start that rep grind early.
