Massively.com’s Rubi gets a hands on of Guild Wars 2, Lots of EVE Online controversy, and a sad day for Star Wars Galaxies.

  • Iapetus

    Sound broken or just me?

    • Kvothe

Just at the start. Shame too… that Darnell SWG video is hilarious when you can hear it.

      • Jasmine

It’s being fixed right now! :)

  • Khelledros

GW 2 looks so much better than SWTOR. Everything I’ve been hearing sounds great. And that the hands on went pretty well, is a big thing because to be fair the game isn’t in beta yet. Still I’m getting more excited about it the more I hear.

    • Kvothe

@Khelledros It really comes down to what each player personally likes. SWTOR will tailor more to hardcore WoW players who can’t live without raiding. Although, personally, I think the huge open-world boss event-chains like the Shatterer are just as good as raids.

GW2 is just simply a different game. Each has its own merits. I will choose Guild Wars 2 because it is a breathe of fresh air in a stale environment. It looks incredibly polished and changes the formula I am sick to death of.

  • Kvothe

I think it’s worth mentioning that there is a 20 minute gameplay video of Underwater Combat in Guild Wars 2 out now. Check it out if you want to see what they are talking about in this episode.

    Linky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=je0mT7AHKqI&hd=1

Also, please fix the audio on Darnell’s tribute to SW Galaxies please!!! It was sooooo damn funny watching it live.

    • Kvothe

There is quite a bit of network lag in that gameplay video, it isn’t dumb AI (although they are improving that also they’ve said). You can tell if you look at him trying to cast skills & they aren’t activating. It’s still plenty of awesomeness though :)

I found another underwater gameplay video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy-S0LkA4Bo&list=PLB90AC798DE665845&hd=1

This one really shows how much the skills change when you go underwater. Fire and flamethrower skills turn into boiling the water around them, lava-chains and magma-type attacks that work underwater.

Developer’s shouldn’t rely on thirty party add-on development to control the quality of their game. If third party developers are creating addons that vastly improve the quality of life in-game to the point where it’s worthwhile for the playerbase to invest in those addons beyond the base time spent finding them, downloading them, installing them, and customizing them, the publisher should be paying those third-party developers instead of the third-party developers paying the publisher. If those third party developers are in a situation where they’re making a game vastly more enjoyable and literally drawing new players into the game and keeping them their with addons they’ve developed, they deserve to paid for their work.

    • Chris

Also, I’m just speculating here, but the only reason I can possible see for them wanting to charge third-party developers to develop addons that improve the quality of their game and cost them nothing would be because they want to hire quality assurance moderators for some type of addon store so they have total control what kinds of addons the community has access to and from which third-party developers, and they want the addon developers themselves to pay for the upkeep and privilege of using such a system.

    • Shiny Bobblehead

Thanks for fixing the audio at the beginning! Great Show!

  • Metals

Why doesn’t GameBreaker tv have a GW2 like the sanctum and The Republic

  • ironcookie

OMG! That is the best opening in the history of the internet. LMAO!

  • Stella

Guild Wars 2 looks lame in my opinion. Just a bunch of flashy lighting to trigger a seizure in people, much like that rift game.

Never played SWG, but it was pretty obvious that Lucas was going to pull the plug on it with SWTOR coming in September or early October.

Played EvE for years but it is too much like a real job to enjoy. It don’t surprise me CCP is hurting for cash, that is a company of dreamers, we will see in the coming years if the dream comes true.

    • Kvothe

The ‘flashy lighting’ is kind of annoying, but it’s still an amazing game. Played a demo of it and it was thrilling. One of those things where you just need to get your hands on it to see. Watching videos doesn’t do it justice.

    • lyck

Dear other readers Stella is a troll piz don’t respond on it.

      • QuintLyn

You’ve already said this a few times. While I understand you want to prevent trolling, saying this every time the same person posts is also a form of trolling in its own right. If you believe someone is trolling it it probably best not to post at all. We will deal with people if they break the rules.

Doesn’t like Guild Wars 2 and Rift…. must be a WoW fanboy.  As for someone who has played WoW for 6 years and Rift since release, Guild Wars 2 looks like it will be the next big thing, and I haven’t been more excited. ArenaNet is going in the right direction with this new MMO, it’s going to be amazing.

it’s going to be amazing. You can’t compare Guild Wars 2 to Rift It’s going to be a completely different game.

  • Sulaco

Gary you should have asked Rubi how the combat was, comparing it to SWTOR, was it faster, the same or…

  • CBC

I have actually become progressively less interested in Guild Wars 2 as time has gone on. I can’t bring myself to like the setting. I just don’t have the imagination anymore to immerse myself in yet another IP. At one time, from truly a gamer stand point, this game held interest for me, but increasingly I just can’t see myself wanting to “live” in this space.

Guild Wars hasn’t done anything wrong, I just don’t have the patience to learn another fantasy setting. Could I be missing out? Perhaps. I think the cold hard truth is that I’m getting older and I know what I like, I’m not looking for the “next best thing” any longer.

Before anyone starts in, no I have never played WoW.

    • Fillan

Gary, at the end of this video, you were having the same audio problems like at the beginning of Legendary, so something was going bad already here but it withstood somehow.

  • Dom.C

I want Guild Wars 2………dungeons……sounds amazing for the first time in my short mmo experience.

  • Robert

While developers reserve the right to charge whatever they want for licensing rights, their fan base also reserves the right to tear them (the devs) a new one for essentially killing most of the potential for useful and popular add-ons.-

  • Lakshata

What happened to Monoclegate! Loved this episode, even though you spent to long on the unimportant issue of the NeX pricing than the players actual issue with the threat of Pay-To-Win items.

  • Xilmar

Nice to see Brendan on the show. Thought he would be a good person to have on TWIMMO this week, since much has happened and usually Gary’s kinda been the only one who played eve in the past.

If anyone wants to hear a more in depth discussion about the…let’s call them issues, eve-radio had a great show about it. (eve-radio.com -> radio -> rewind -> FunkyBacon (Saturday 25th of June 2011, 00:00)

damn swg shutting down and i was just thinking of taking a look at it O.o

one thing i think ppl skipped over on that is the time and effort ppl put into becoming badass in that game, no mmo imo should ever really shut down. i can understand combining servers into one mass server or something, or even releasing source code to some extent and allowing ppl to run dedicated servers throiugh the companies server system or something so they can monitor whats happening and yet not be responsible for server uptime and stuff.

seems to me that keep theing game going for diehard fans in a minimilistic fashion would be fairly simple, have a low cost, and frankly if they really felt it would clash with swotor, a game out for years known to have issues, that themselves took years to fix to some extent…. how bad would swotor have to be, how little confidance would you have to have in your product to fear your old product that was never fantastic to begin with ( no offence intended to SWG fans ofc, i never actually played swg, i base my opinion on the old old videos and reviews which never impressed me, but the later stuff ill freely admit has me intrigued and im kinda sad that ive now missed any chance to really get into it and check it out fully , being a star wars fan and all) O.O

but shutting it down is basically saying…its been fun guys, thanks for the dedication and cash…but…GTFO…go buy our new game and sub up, or naff off :P

It’s sad you didn’t understand the real issue why EVE is burning..
There’s a really good article on eurogamer explaining everything http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-06-27-eve-online-in-crisis-article

Really would have liked more info on how dungeons worked without the holy trinity.
