You may have heard that Guild Wars 2 had a beta this weekend. If not, then welcome back from that coma because this is the most anticipated MMO in a long time. Our intrepid Guildcast crew stocked up on food and caffeine and spent the weekend pouring over the luscious world that ArenaNet has created. We have you covered with more beta insight than you can shake a Charr at — though please do watch out for those teeth.

After defeating a rogue mic stand, Gary Gannon asks Elizabeth Cardy and Schawn Schuster about their views — between gushing uncontrollably over the amazing design of GW2. Giving an in depth look at all aspects that were available in the Guild Wars 2 beta, the crew covers character creation, the fabulous home cities, questing, pvp, and much, much more.

    The thing that surprises me most about all the beta coverage is indeed that nobody has anything bad to say about the game. Especially from all the people that werent even looking forward to GW2. Just hearing the unbrideld enthousiasm of everyone (yogscast, gamebreaker, Total biscuit, ign, …) just almost makes all the footage obsolete.

    I mean, if you look at the faces of Elixabeth and Gary this entire show you can almost not get excited yourself. And funnily enough Shawn’s face just screams: i wanted to play this game moooorrree.

      Not really true. There is also criticism, you just have to listen. Yogscast is just a fun show, they are just playing the game. If you actually would start to read articles, you will spot many negative things.

      Still awesome though, I really hope they fix some stuff until release.

        Many of those things are really not much more then people fearing that the new systems wont be enough to keep things interesting in the long run (see the whole endgame debate) or things people dislike because they feel differently about what they like in gameplay/MMOs.

        Ofcourse the game wont be flawless, like the cinematics not being upto the new SWTOR standards. But i’ve not read anywhere that the core gameplay (i.e. gameplay, events, “removal” of the trinity, WvW) has been a failure or disliked more in favour of old MMOs standards.

        And i believe Anet can be proud about that. Even if the game doesnt have the longevity of WoW it will have made a significant impact on the progress of MMOs as a genre. Ofcourse other games have done this to some extent (SWTOR story, …) but not in the level Anet will when they pull of this game.

      Yeah, just look at them. They’re like Shining, Beaming with Joy.

      But still it’s not like GW2 is flawlesly at all but the positive stuffs are so many that they can cover up the flaws. And this is just in Beta stage.

      You could say that it’s the most (or very) polished Beta MMO ever. till this day.

    I was hopping to see mikeb here, since he was the one doing an amazing job with the review, and didn’t sucked at pvp ! He could give us a better insight, and he actually played the game for a few hours and experienced the game !!

    Awesome show. Elixabeth rocks. Imo trade epic beard guy for someone else. He could play this weekend and chose to play some of it on a sunday? Seriously calling himself a game journalist? Trade him for taugrim, tamgros or Mike B. Seriously he doesnt contribute much to the show.

    really great show guys, it was alot of fun watching Gary wig out – Gary we told you that you were going to fanboy out once you see what the rest of us saw in the game. good to see that the 2 skeptics/devil’s advocates on the show of GW2 (Gary and Mike B) are now bonafide fanboys, haha.     If Anent can balance the drops over crafted gear, then it will be great to get back into being a crafter. My concern, if they fall too close to WoW style crafting then we get this mass patterns with no worth. The other concern, creating gear that looks too closely to gear that can get bought or dropped. I enjoy creating something that shows this is what  a tailor or blacksmith can make.

       To be fair, Elisabeth covered crafting in depth yesterday I think it was.
      I don’t believe that’s that case, the stuff she made was as good, if not better then what she had, and that was the first time she did it.
      It looks very practical and like most everything else in the game, not going out of it’s way to waste your time.

       Since they’re very much separate games, not hard at all! Playing GW1 would give you a lot more of a lore and story connection to the game, but the starter areas do a really good job of catching you up to speed on what’s going on in GW2. And the playstyles are totally different, so you’ll be able to step in no problem.
