“Two more days.”

Amazingly, this is the very final GuildCast…

before launch — sorry couldn’t resist — and there’s plenty to chew on.

A mighty six hour stress test went on yesterday. The two hour extension being a pleasant bonus for many, particularly as there was a bunch of new stuff to play around with. How did your stress test go?

Players everywhere became dancing, dancing, dancing machines with the new emotes. From the Haka to the LMFAO dance, characters could be seen getting down with their bad selves all across Tyria. Was it a nimble-footed phenomenon? Or were pairs of two left feet being stomped on?

There was also the awesome reveal that the watery fourth sPvP was up and running. What did the gang think of the combative addition?

The Twilight Arbor was unveiled thanks to a recent PC Gamer video, mild spoilers were present for the ongoing story of Destiny’s Edge — Logan and Rytlock sitting in a tree, W H I N I N G –and we got a look at what to expect in the level 50 dungeon. Does it look as impressive as the Ascalonian Catacombs?

We have a happy bunch of viewer’s questions to answer, in addition to all our musings on the last week.

the ONE thing I am annoyed by arenanet is the GW1 name save… I can see a lot of mean people who bought GW1 just to steal names from ‘popular’ people (not me… you take my name and i’ll cry). By my understanding, a person could take the name ‘taugrim’ or ‘tamgros’ or ‘Arasis’ or ‘bogotter’ and those names are saved across all the servers, so it doesn’t matter what server you choose because that ‘one’ jerk took your name… :”(

There is no way in hell that you could get more than three HoM points before GW2 launches if you start now.I started a month ago. I only have six and one of those is because a friend gave me a spare mini pet. The hours of grind involved is unbelievable.

  If you get to lvl 10 (takes a couple of hours) you can do the quest to use the asura portal to EotN and link your account. That’s 3 points. Get the hero M.O.X. that spawns outside of any major port town such as Lion’s Arch. You can add him to HoM right away, getting you another point. Then just level your pet to 20 while doing EotN primary quests to get the tapestries, add the animal companion statue and u have 5 points.
  
  Then get to thunderhead keep either by having a guildie or someone else (such as yourself) run u there or just by fighting your way there. You should be lvl 20 by now and able to do that if you have a decent build. There’s wikis around that have good builds. By completing the Thunderhead Keep mission you can skip most of the Prophecies storyline only making you have to do 3 more missions after that to complete the campaign. After completing the campaign, put that statue into Honor and you have 7 points total.
  
  It might sound complicated but I’m sure that this can definitely be done in 3 days.

  Why would you have to do it “before GW2 launches”…? You should be able to do it at any time. Arena Net isn’t going to disable a system that increases their sales of GW…

My biggest problem with GW2 is the fact that there are 2 many skirts and long coats.
In the medium armour category there are mby only 2 pieces of armour without butcapes.
Where did all the jackets and pants, corssets and such go???

If they add more variation in armour choices i would be a happy person

I agree with you Richie about the textures looking smoother. I Was looking at some screenshots from BWE1 and then some shots I took in the recent stress tests and they look a lot better in the more recent tests. I’m pretty sure most of my settings were about the same…so either they look better or we both have the same mesmer spell cast on us lol.

  The textures always looked really good. I somewhat remember one of the BWE knocking down all the settings, so you had to manually go in and ratchet up the settings.

  Its still the same for me as well…. In Chrome and IE… Hopefully they get a new html5 player up soon that allows them the advertising they need and the accessability we need.. Not being able to watch the videos on my nexus 7 makes me sad.

Why would you care about any of this stuff if you didn’t play GW? I played it for about 2 hours back in beta and hated it, I played GW2 in beta and hated it, sadly I obviously already bought it so gonna have to try and like it lol. No open world PVP is a major killer for me, it just makes PVE even more boring that it already is. The Dynamic quests really aren’t anything new and they aren’t all that dynamic either lol. The wvwvw stuff suffers from the same problem as WAR did where it’s all about the zerg.

Just gonna try and play this game in a totally different way to any other MMO and never do a single quest, they’re so boring, the story is crap and I hate the dumb cutscenes, just give me quest text and let me skip the bs.

Not much else on the horizon, there’s Planetside 2 but I’m not going to touch another SOE game after all the games they’ve ruined in the past that I once loved…… EQ – Pop/Luclin, SWG – NGE, PS – BFRs etc.

No one is making MMOs like SWG Pre CU, UO or EVE Online any more where it’s about the player driven content. Only Dayz has really replicated this but that isn’t an MMO, though it’s more of one than some “MMOs” today lol.

Not a fan of these new dances. I think I finally figured out why. Too many “small” movements and the movements seem less defined.

  All but the charr dance look like pretty direct motion capture of real dancers.
  
  The asura has a couple of issues due to the lack of a distinction between heel and toe, and the charr probably needed a lot of tweaking and manual retargeting because they have the ankles where a normal human has the knees, but most of the animation for that one is in the arms anyway.

GW2 did the party rock anthem for their humans better than Blizzard did for their male pandaren. THAT’S IT FOLKS! We finally have definitive evidence that one game is better than another! If you still have friends who enjoy playing WoW, you can ridicule them with how much better your dances are. Also, e-sports.

  The human dance, it just shows how dead the humans are in GW2. At least the Charr and Asura have some movements from the neck up, love those dances. But the humans, no head movements and seem to be floating in place. Terrible, just terrible.
  
  Really do hope GW2 does something with the esports, it’s got a chance. But it’s going to be hard to pull off. So far the only Internet stars are the ones that talk about their builds.

Finally got the videos to work after closing all browsers, disabling curse client, and then updating Java and Flash. Now GBTV is working in IE, Chrome, and Firefox for me.

    I agree, but simply updating Flash didn’t rectify the problem for me. I had to update Flash, Java, and my Graphic Driver. Made no sense to me since the site was working just fine this morning. Works now so all is right in the world.

      Java makes no difference, it doesn’t interfere with Flash in any way. Your graphics driver, however (which you didn’t mention above) does, since Flash uses GPU acceleration for decoding and display. Flash always expects you to have the latest driver (or the last driver to be released before that version of Flash).

  I had to update my IE flash player to get my Chrome player to work. Chrome Flash was up to date, IE was not (as I don’t use it.) After updating my IE Flash both suddenly worked.

Viddler is awful. Everything I have is updated, tried with 3 different browsers 2 different computers a pc and a mac, and it works on none of them. Yet some other videos do work. This is so hit or miss, it makes watching game breaker a chore.

  What makes it even more of a chore, IMO, is the fact that all the videos are set to auto-download and auto-start.
  
  Open 4 or 5 tabs from the main page and you’ll have to pause them one by one or they all start screaming in the background. And, even if you’re just reading the article on your mobile browser, the site forces you to download the video as long as the page is open (which actually costs you money, if you pay for bandwidth).
  
  Apparently it’s too complex to make the videos wait for a user click before starting to download and play…

I wonder, have we been playing the same game on that stress test because what they are saying is it was smooth as butter on the other hand what i had was (and most of people in general chat):
1. graphic glitches
2.Leap skills teleporting randomly making them completely useless
3.spvp not working ( not just down but getting no response when tring to join)

So i just skipped the whole stress test to play darksiders 2, atleast that game was playable. I am not sure what was going on there but if they are giving updates to US servers only i wonder why?

So I made a comment on how the way arenanet is handling character names in this game annoys me… and within 30s of logging in some jerk took the name Patrikules…. I’m assuming it was someone who reads these comments which is sad… Shoulda kept my mouth shut. Safe to say on ‘actual’ launch day the most common thing people will see is.. “Name has been taken”

    on individual servers yes. In this game it is first come first serve across all servers. (which is against the norm)
    
    I’m fairly certain that the name ‘Patrikules’ is unique. So what annoys me, is that someone took the name just to troll me… BTW the person that took the name deleted the character, and I was able to get it back by sitting in character creator from 8:55 – 9:06 Saturday night. (24hr name save upon character delete)
    
    All in all it was just a funny joke in response to an earlier comment that I had made… I’m on your side fan-boys… put down that flamethrower!!

Catching up on back episodes. One of things I love about GBTV is the Internet memes you find. I had not seen the Game of Thrones cat, thank you for posting that. The best laugh I had all week!

Very humorous seeing the dread on Elisabeth’s and Richie’s faces worrying about the live stream going 4 hours especially knowing the concern turned out to be needless. I can’t believe I took a nap thinking they’d never launch that early lol

I always appreciate how Richie is frankly honest about the amount of real *effort* Hall of Monument points require. I’ve seen too many posts by GW1 vets who keep insisting how easy it is to get 30 HoM points. That view of easy reminds me of that line from Princess Bride ‘I do not think that word means what you think it means.’
