Guild Wars 2 Expansion? - GuildCast Ep 61 (Video)

This week on GuildCast the gang discusses the Guild Wars 2 expansion, uses for karma and Scott’s naughty-bits.

We’ve already heard from Colin Johanson that we shouldn’t expect a Guild Wars 2 expansion in the extremely-near future, but Korean investment firm KDB Daewoo Securites thinks we’ll see one within the year.  In fact, they’re so certain they’re willing to stake their reputation on it!

Daewoo claims that the Guild Wars 2 expansion is slated to release in the US and Europe during the second half of the year. Considering the financial structure of Guild Wars 2, the timing seems right. It’s not too wrong to think ArenaNet would do an expansion a year is it?

Daily downsides?

We’ve talked about the good side of the daily system, but what about the bad?  Some Reddit users brought up the concern that dailies will detract from players helping out other players.  Will the dailies keep players from helping each other out in the best way in order to make their daily achievements instead?

Karma… What’s it good for?

Reddit’s just full of questions today, aren’t they?  So this Karma stuff… What do you really use it for?

It seems one player spent about 1.5 million karma on Lost Orrian jewelry boxes and received enough items to sell for about 18 gold 30 silver. We can’t imagine this is the best use of karma.  Granted, if you’re working on a legendary then you have plenty to spend your karma on. But, what about everyone else? The hosts have some ideas for things karma could be spent on.

Trolling with roses…

In case you missed it, our own Richie Procopio made a lovely video where he shows everyone how to troll other Guild Wars 2 players with a bouquet of roses. Who ever knew so much mayhem could be caused with flowers?

All this, plus viewer questions…

And as always, if you missed last week’s episode, you can check it out here.  And, be sure to check back next week, perhaps we’ll even have more information on the Guild Wars 2 expansion.

I would think an expansion once every year is plenty, what with all the free content that gets added throughout the rest of the year.
What’s the rush as long as new things get added every month or two?

“You should not be forced to craft, or visit a Laurel vendor…”  This is ridiculous   First, you are not forced to do the daily.  There is literally only 2 types of rewards available for Laurels that you can’t get via other means in the game. 1 type is the 2 vanity pets and the other is Ascended Amulets, who’s primary function is to be used in the higher levels of FotM. Second, if you aren’t going to visit the Laurel vendor, then why are you concerned with earning Laurels? Third, if you aren’t crafting or dodging in the game, then again, what do you want Laurels for, since the vast majority of stuff you get from them is either crafting related or dungeon related (which involves lots of dodging)?

Karma comes from WvWvW simple as that. Almost everyone that has massive amounts of Karma are doing WvWvW for hours a night and accumulating it that way.
Sure the daily and Monthly give you a bunch but in the amount of time it takes to do a daily that person in WvWvW will have gotten twice as much.

    • arenasb

WvW is actually a pretty inefficient way of gaining karma. The fastest way is to farm the events in the Cursed Shore.

Lewis B actually has a nice blog post about it on his guildwars2hub site

Too much Karma. First World GW2 problems, sheesh.
The only downside I have seen from Dailies is that it is just another good thing that people choose to whine about.

    • Chris Catone

Yeah, I had an issue with dailies today when someone finished the event while I was rezzing the npcs and didn’t get my last 2 rezzes.  I logged back into that character 15 minutes later and finished it; not a big deal…certainly nothing to complain about.

They should really get rid of soulbound in GW2. Not just for Karma but for all items. There is a lot of stuff I would love to shift to other characters but I can’t especially now transmute stuff is soulbound

Some details about the dodge daily and getting the Evade proc that led to the comment Scoot brought up – a group of friends and myself were doing the Plains of Ashford (level 1-15) to get the zone completion and after 3 hours of doing various DEs for kicks as well as working on the usual hearts and vistas, none of them had completed the dodge daily.   These were characters ranging from level 12-70 (obviously leveled down but that should have no effect on dodging)   In contrast, going to Orr seems to allow the dodge daily to be completed through 15-30 mins of normal gameplay which is how one imagines a daily should work.

It occurred to me that this effect could be occurring with lower level mobs.  And it is happening with melee attacks and ranged attacks not just AoEs.   It seems possible that low level mob animations are slower or their attacks are actually delayed, allowing beginning players more time to dodge.   The result is that one can successfully dodge these mobs for long periods without completing the daily.

I would be interested if others find the same thing.  Ask some friends to do a low level zone completion without telling them to pay attention to their dodging (I never said anything to the people I was with) and see how many have completed the daily when you hit 50-70% zone completion (throw some DEs as well).   On a side note, the undead arms in the sylvari starting zone seem to have less of an attack delay so sylvari characters have a bit of luck.

If it was found that doing gathering on low-level nodes took much longer to complete the gathering daily than on higher-level nodes, I would think that would be considered a bug.

High level characters will not notice anything which is probably why Scott and others dismiss this as complaining this but if this is true, then it’s tough luck if you’re just starting and only have a low level character.   And that doesn’t seem like how the dailies were meant to work.

I watch the show each week and enjoy it. Thank you.
    1. For the gang, no capes (reasons known) but what about guild halls ?
    2. For Richie, enjoy the vidio you put out.
    3. For Scott, you are not alone. Never enough kama. LOL tryed the guardian and is great.
    4.  For Elixabeth, never put the cape on in GW1 either. On a ore collecting run, I run across
buff banner with a Quaggan on it. This was at the Cove.
    5. For Gary, keep up the good work.

    • Chris Catone

I think someone mentioned that guild halls are already being worked on…it was some Q&A in reference to housing not being in the works currently.

Dewous, or whoever, are the same ones that “staked their credibility  last year when they said that the game wouldn’t launch til the end of November, and this was back in what… May?  They don’t have any credibility left.

They’ve already stated in past articles, they have a team that is as *big* as the Live team, working on expansions.

The weapon itself does look awesome. Look at the hilt of Twilight or Sunrise, there is a stupid amount of detail in them. I bet you never noticed the seraph angels and winged demons on the hilts of those swords respectively.

There is already too much PvE crap in WvW. They needed to be separated even more in the first place and not have junk causing wasted slots for those who actually want to RvR.

orrian jewel boxes are a terrible way to convert karma to gold. Some of the extoic sets come with runes worth much more and are not rng so long as you have a couple Black lion salvage kits. Rune of Lyssa is 2.5-3g each atm.
1,500,000 karma is ~ 35 armor piecies = over 70g on tradding post.

They should be very careful about how they add any PvE to WvW.  I remember playing Rift and in certain zones both factions would fight enemies in a rift and immediately after it was over it was an all out brawl.  Fun Stuff!  I would prefer they instance any new PvE stuff in WvW like dungeons you only have access to if your server controls Stone Mist for example.  This would serve two purposes.  !) They would have some great new content giving more PvE’ers reason to be in WvW and 2) bleed off some of the overflow of players into the instance and off the WvW map so the losing faction aren’t constantly out-manned.  In my opinion they could bring back Fissure of Woe, Under World, Tombs, Sorrow’s Furnace and if you hold an enemy Garrison you get access to one of those areas, SM would give you access to another, etc. etc.  Adding  Dragons to PvE may be cool as well, but it may end up just being another Grub or Oakheart unless you have to stop it.  Those Champions should actually attack Towers.  One side defeats him then the next time he spawns he will attack the closest enemy tower nearby.  I rather see an Invasion of the Dredge or Invasion of Ogres so that if you don’t keep them at flipped, they mass a huge invasion force, not that small Veteran force they have today. Then instead of just attacking the camps, if you don’t flip them each wave gets bigger and they go after more targets such as towers.  That would be cool.

Yet again, Liz looks SO annoyed by Garry…

Like the show but the game is backwards, Still after eight years world of warcraft is still a much better game. Guild wars 2 is boring has hell its all about skins skins and more skins, plus the game was over hyped from the start.

You mentioned new things to buy in the Gem Store, how’s this idea:
Alternate Reality skins for your legendary
The two I’m thinking of the most at the moment is the Dreamer, becomes the nightmare with flaming horses racing down a flame spout instead of Unicorns down a rainbow, and Quip becomes the “Party Crasher” with Bottle Rocket/Sky Rockets and Roman Candle Balls shooting out of it instead of streamers, bubbles, and glitter.
Incinerator could be a dripping ice dagger, etc. etc. etc…..would love to know what you guys think, even would love to hear you expound on the idea with skins of your own!!!!

I hate a lot of the legendaries right now, they seem to “fruity.”
