This week on GuildCast, Colin Johanson has things to say about Guild Wars 2 WvW.

According to Colin Johanson Guild Wars 2 WvW updates are on their way!  The down side is that they are holding off on pushing them until March to push them because of the massive amount of testing that will have to be done.  In march we will see the release of the WvW progression system, new ranks that will be visible to all other players and new specific abilities and bonuses.

Other systems that are being worked on for the Guild Wars 2 WvW are culling, short term goals and general polish.

NCSofts Q4 2012 Earnings!

Guild Wars 2 is doing pretty good things for NCSoft’s bank account.  According to the earnings report the game accounts for 45% of the company’s quarter 4 sales.  It looks like the game has a good chance for long term growth.

Stat combos!

Good news guys, ANet does plan on adding more stat combos to existing ascended items!

All of this, plus your viewer question on this episode of GuildCast.  And as always, if you missed last week’s episode, feel free to check it out here.

I doubt they’ll do instanced raiding anytime in the near future, if at all. They’ve made it clear that they want to focus on strengthening their open world and I think that’s a really good move for them, considering how much polish and potential it has. If they’re able to create more difficult and rewarding encounters either for guilds(guild missions hopefully) or large groups of players, that give people more of a reason to go to those “out of the way” leveling areas, then I think that will help their game a lot more in the long run.

My guild and I have recently started doing weekly events where we go and do things out in the world as a large group and I have to say it’s pretty fun when you can get a bunch of people that you enjoy playing with, like a guild, to tackle some of the content. If they capitalize on this, then I think it’ll be a really good move.

Why not Linage I? What’s wrong with a strong old time game still hanging in there because plenty of people enjoy it? If I have a favorite restaurant, I am not going to stop going there just because it has been in business for 20 years, and in fact will encourage more people to try it because I like it so much. I’m going to stop going to my mechanic just because I have been using him to fix my car for the last 10-15 years.

So why do games have to be any different? Of course, like a restaurant, you can try something different every now an again, but just because something has been around for a while does not invalidate the enjoyment one may get out of it. Just like always going back to my favorite restaurant, I always go back to my favorite games no matter how old they are – hence many of us continue to play those older games, and hence many of us continue to play and prefer GW1 over GW2.

you wont have to do them so why the hell not. Theyre fun, they ACTUALLY REQUIRE TEAMWORK, and its something to bring a guild closer together. YAY a reason to be in a guild other than WvW or as a chatroom….

just like everything else in GW2 it would be another way to get whatever the hell currency you want. so just get off the “no raids” simpleton train, kthxbye

I like the new dailies in general… but like the kill variety one before I always find there is one that just hangs around and I have to explicitly go out and do. For example I spent about 3 hours in WuvWuv (ok that is just wrong…) last night and just didn’t have one completed… ironically it was the daily healer… I spent a fair amount of time solo or in small groups and we either all died or no one died. Being a mostly solo player I find daily healer a pain unless I’m in some area with lots of dying npcs… It’ll be nice to not have to do all of them but being able to pick and choose.

But I did like the ‘Daily Laurel’… that’s a daily I can get behind (although I was scared I was going to have to spend a laurel to get it).

What server are you guys on again Richie and Elix .. I just got back into GW2 and was hoping to join your guild if you guys have room for another xD.

    • Jado Cast

Richie is on Blackgate, i Know this because I’ve played with him when he streams for Massively.  Fun Times!  Not sure where Elix is but I know she wasn’t on Blackgate.  Taugrim and Scott are on Blackgate as well.

i have 14 characters.   boy girl of most professions.  but im saving the last two for the expansion.  racial skills play a role.  i like my tiny asura warrior with his golem buddy.

A week’s worth of sleep isn’t a week long because  it’s talking about the amount of SLEEP you get in a week.

An expansion’s worth of content is…the amount of content you get in an expansion.

Good episode, but I really dislike that you keep on bringing up “critical consumption of media.” Colin’s the one that brought up the term “expansion” when describing the January/February updates. He could have just said “gigantic amount of content” and we’d be fine, but no one put the word “expansion” in his mouth when talking about the updates, HE SPECIFICALLY said expansion. It was a mistake on his part, NOT THE READERS’ mistake, to associate the two patches and the term “expansion.”

So it shouldn’t be “critical consumption of media” you keep bringing up, it should be “more carefully state what you’re releasing to the public.”

While I want the new WvW to be bug free and polished, I’m cautiously optimistic.  I agree that pushing it back a few weeks is no big deal, as long as they deliver.  But they have had 6 months of content updates for PvE and sPvP and nothing but nerfs for WvW.  The culling issue was not fixed, and in fact we have queue bugs that Anet really hasn’t acknowledged.  Many of the large RvR and WvW guilds moved on to other games months ago, and the remaining dedicated guilds in WvW are losing participation in Dub Dub because they want more updates and fixes to Culling.  I have no doubt, if they have a great update, people will come back in droves to play World vs World.

  • DoctorOverlord

Excellent episode everyone!  The best part was Elizabeth’s alt-monolgue at the end and every else’s reaction to it :)

I do feel the need to respond to Scott’s comments about the dodge daily.    It is very possible to successfully dodge *without* getting the Evade proc.  I have
tested this against melee, ranged and AoE attacks and I have to deliberately alter my timing in an unnatural (for me) way to get the Evade proc.

After playing for 4 hours last night without dying once I still had not completed the dodge daily.     So not all players complaining about this mechanic need to learn to dodge.

The reason I dislike the current dailies is because they feel like they encouraging artificial, not natural gameplay.     For example, players are deliberately letting NPCs die to get the healer daily.

I only completed my daily last night by performing an act I would not normally do.  I was sick of trying alter my timing against single mobs so I charged that harpy attack on the camp near the Ascalon Catacombs entrance.     They all aggro-ed me and I got most of what I needed in one shot.  I also died in the process.    Judging by the rush of players to rez me I’m guessing they were trying to get their daily too.

And this is reason why I dislike the current dailies.   If ArenaNet intends for players to go out of their way and do things they would not normally do while playing to finish the dailies, then fine.   But I always hear dailies being touted by ArenaNet (and the press) as things you can naturally finish during the normal course of play.

This is justnot the case for everyone.  The only times I have ever finished dailies was by altering how I play and deliberately going after them.    I
don’t have an issue with this since this is no different than going after other
specific rewards but I do not want it implied that just because some players
are not naturally getting dailies during their course of play, that they are
    somehow playing the game wrong.

Frankly, I think daily requirements that encourage unnatural behavior (healer and dodge) should simply be dropped.   There are more than enough other options to provide variety with choices that really -do- encourage normal gameplay (gathering, mob kills etc)
