In a desperate cry for attention, Blizzard wants to give you a bunch of free stuff for coming back to the game. As you might have heard, the Scroll of Resurrection has come back to life — pun intended. You can now invite your friends back to World of Warcraft, and you receive cash and prizes — OK, maybe not cash. However, the biggest controversy is not what the inviter gets but the gifts the invitee receives. The biggest one being the automagic level 80. If a player previously played WoW and comes back with a Scroll of Resurrection invitation, he will not only gain a new mount and realm transfer, but also his character will be bumped up to level 80 free of grind. Our panel’s collective jaw dropped.

The World of Warcraft constantly changes. It’s not always easy to keep up on the latest news. Our crew at Legendary will get you up to speed. Josh Allen aka Lore, Mike B aka Fony, and host Mike Schaffnit are here to guide you through the journey. They not only tell you the news but also wear funny sun glasses and hoodies — oh, and tell you what the news means — every week on Legendary!

As a Guatemalan, I find this episode very offensive.

Nah, just kidding, but I do am Guatemalan! And we don’t have gold farmers here from what I know of.

while the spectral mounts given for SoR don’t look that great, the Spectral Tiger still looks amazing mostly because of the ghostly tiger wearing very solid armor. Now if they could just do a Spectral Proto-Drake for RaF that looked as appealing as the spectral tiger they would find TONS of RaF invites going out.

I honestly do not see the problem with just opening up the beta to everyone. They know how many people will have the beta access so if necessary they may open up more beta realms. And on top of that, not everyone will be playing at the same time. There is never a time that all 11 million subs are playing WoW at the same time.

    • Thomas Doyle

As long as they stagger it to open the beta up to everyone at a fairly later date than for those who took up the annual pass. Look at Diablo 3 for instance. People have complained that they paid for the annual pass and the game is still not out. It’s not a good complaint mind you, but imagine the amount of people complaining if they suddenly let everyone into the MoP beta at the same time. Blizzard has to keep the annual pass relevant and not piss off the people who paid for it by giving out its rewards to those who did not.

Great Expansion end promotion, great way to bring pple back for Mists of Pandaria, anyone who thinks Blizzard is desperate is a idiot honestly, 10.1 million subs doesn’t show desperate just says hey come back and play are game and we will help you get to where everyone else is, but only if you have subbed before. Good Job on Blizzard’d Part already sent like 10 scrolls out and now have to many mounts to give out already.  BTW Chatroom Love Gary

Blizz isn’t desperate, just Controlled by the market instead of creativity.

Anyone that has played Wow since vanilla noticed when they stopped being creative, and started being lazy/greedy.

You can bet the wrap party for Mop will not come close to the Caty Vegas wrap party, or the previous ones.

It’s just a different company now, that’s all folx.

I know Gary was going to include micro transaction somewhere in there, so I mentioned it for you!

On a serious note, If they do sell it though, it should be experience boost (like League of Legends) instead of level boost.

The Beta problem is easy to solve, they just start the beta when they release Diablo 3 then they can say “sorry you didnt get into beta yet but hey play Diablo 3!”

    With the one themed continent,
Do they run the risk of it growing to stale too fast?

not to what i assume is it’s new target market.

(Where they were this Year instead of doing Blizzcon,
    is My guess.)

The drive seems More directed toward the Asian Market,
as they are behind somewhat in content, the market may prove
to have a slightly longer lifespan.

If you didn’t understand why you should to go into the Deadmines in the old version of Westfall, then you probably skipped most of the quest text. Some of the old Wesftall quests were indeed a bit random, but the part about the Deadmines made a lot of sense. More than it does now, in fact (Goblin waitresses? Hobgoblins? Miner monkeys? A werewolf admiral? A murloc that cooks himself? It’s like they picked random enemies from a hat instead of trying to create a realistic place).

Not that you should need a motivation; I went into the Deadmines because I could (because it was there, and looked interesting, and I wanted to explore), not because I felt that I “had to”.

In fact, I’d argue that knowing the original story of the Deadmines is the only way to understand the new one, so players who joined after Cataclysm will never truly “get it”. Blizzard should have kept the original version at level 15 (while getting rid of the boring and unrelated Westfall “kill 20 gnolls” quests) and make the new Deadmines (Vanessa Edition) available only at level 85.

Alternatively, Chromie should appear in Westfall and give new players a chance to “travel back in time” and do the original version (which would be a wing of the Caverns of Time), if they were interested in learning more about it.

    • Md2oo3

      I totally agree with this.

I knew exactly what was happening in Deadmines and why I had to go there. But the re-vamp… when I went… I was like, ‘What the fuck? Mining Monkeys who slap their ass?’, as well as the other things you mentioned.

Today’s DeadMines is just stupid. But I guess it all fits in with the new kid theme right? Pokemon and KungFu Pandas coming. Kids are gonna love it.

The quests from Westfall lead to the vanessa deadmines.

  • Old Ben

Forcing players to pick a spec at level 10 is like forcing kids to pick a job when they’re in 4th grade.

“Hi there, level 10 player! You’ve been playing this game for 5 long hours, you haven’t picked any talents yet, how would you like to lock yourself into one of the talent trees and not have a chance to try 2/3rds of the talents available to your class?”

It was a completely nonsensical decision, and led to a lot of people not having a clue about other specs until they reached endgame content. The time to let people experiment with hybrid specs is precisely while they’re levelling. In fact, hybrid specs are generally better for levelling.

Picking a spec at 10 works fine if you’re levelling your 4th or 5th alt and you already know what each role plays like. But how are new players supposed to find out if they like to tank when they have to pick a talent tree before going into any instances? The result is that 90% of players pick a DPS tree (because it has more obvious advantages for questing – which is all they know at that point), and are then locked into it for the rest of their levelling experience.

It’s easy to complain about “clueless tanks / healers who levelled as DPS”, but it was Blizzard that forced them to make the option before they had any clue about the difference, and denied them access to other talents. I for one am glad that I levelled 7 of my 9 level-85 characters at a time when I could experiment with talents from multiple trees. Being forced to pick a spec at level 10 added nothing to the last two (on the contrary).

Where is Gary? The shows have not been the same,And damn Mike B how can you stand having a cat meing a Man

    • Md2oo3

Though I agree with what you said about locking in talents that is not the only reason people today don’t know how to play their class.

The other reason is how you level up so fast.
You out level the area most of the time and gain spells so fast that by the time you hit max level, Blizzard either has not trained you in their use via class quests or you simply haven’t had that much time grinding to test them all out and train yourself.

So regardless of the spec being locked in at level 10, I still think the major reason is levelling too fast to get use to the spells and stuff.

Blizzard could counter this by having class specific quests to train you in using your spells and such.

I believe they had such things in the past, including higher level class quests like grabbing your Paladin Mount or Warlock Mount which taught you various other things.

They should bring all that back.Maybe have three different quests to do based on your talent spec to show you what these will be about.

An obvious Tank/DPS/Healer quest chain for those that have those choices would be something like throwing something through a small questline as a DPS, then as the role of the Healer, then another one as the role of a Tank, and once finished, then ask the player to choose a spec. This way they have had some small mini-game style of the specs, some kind of idea of what they are about before choosing them.

There are people out there like me that I know this SoR helped immensely.  I was pondering coming back to WoW here soon because I had already had my slice of SWTOR pie and while delicious it just didn’t last long.  So I needed something to do between now and when D3/GW2 comes out.  Then SoR 2.0 comes out and it becomes a no brainer to me.  Come back to a game that I know will satisfy my time killing needs, give a friend a shiny new mount, and get a realm plus faction change to the server that my old guildies all went too.  I for once want to give thanks to Blizzard for offering this new feature and implementing it before I went and starting back up the “normal” way!  Basically in return for paying for 2 months of service I got a free realm AND faction change plus my friend gets a new mount, along with a week of free gametime.  $30 for $80 of paid services (assuming that mount would be $25 like the others)?  I’ll take that any day and gladly welcome WoW back into my life.

Ghostcrawler made a good point about keeping an expansion’s zones thematically unified. While I did not like the dreary, cold environment of Northrend, Wrath of the Lich King’s theme still worked. The biggest problem with the Cataclysm zones was how you had to travel to each. Also, if you lumped them all together as neighbors, the transition between each would stick out too much. Keeping zones together and thematically similar is the way to go in my book. And in the case of Pandaria, I’d enjoy that continent’s theme much more than Northrend at the very least.

Onto the topic of heroics and challenge modes, I’m concerned that Blizzard can make each of them feel relevant enough for players to continually run them. If heroics are kept easier and give out the pre-raid gear alone then there is less motivation for those who enjoy a challenge to go into challenge modes. That’s not to say the motivation is killed outright but gear is still a strong motivator to do content. I’m of the mindset that you give multiple options to the players and make them similarly, if not equally, attractive.

Cata Heroics were just fine! People just need to learn how to play! Make normal dungeons the content for casuals and leave heroics as is if people can’t manage heroics they don’t need the gear since you gear in heroics to be able to run raids which should be even more harder.
It’s just that most people in WoW suck ass and can’t handle wipe or two

Why let people pass up on all the redone content when that was the best part of this expansion.  PLUS the other expansions were better than this expansion.

/confused… nevermind.  It’s all about the Benjamins.

So, can I assume if Blizzard announces something, anything at all, that it will be viewed as some grand plot to destroy WoW from its original glory?

I mean, come on, I fully understand the “people hate change” mentality, especially if said individual(s) speak loud enough to “sound” like the majority. Constantly criticizing everything is not going to make it better, at the very least provide some constructive feedback so that Blizzard can take your comment(s) seriously  and possibly implement changes into the game.

It’s now getting just childish that this is what occurs every time Blizzard comes out with news about WoW.

Proof that ghost crawler watches legendary???
In the post that ghost crawler made, he wrote “i was an oceanographer…. remember?”. is that in reference to the joke lore made a few episodes ago about how ghost crawler was actually a crab n greg street was his oceanographer translator? or am i connecting dots that aren’t there?

  • skyranger14

Why is anyone surprised Blizz is giving away Cata for free? It costs them NOTHING beyond bandwidth. The copies in stores?  those are not gettign sold anyway. Far better to use it to entice playerrs to return. All the things they’re giving away? None of it actually costs blizzard anything, so yeah, why wouldn’t they  give it away to get players back?
