Josh and Mike B were asked if they liked the recently announced mount and pet for World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria collector’s edition. Josh aptly described the mount as an “angry grown-up grandfather of the disco lion” and the pet as a “pug punched in the face.” So obviously he is in love with these in-game items called Quilen (Imperial Quilen mount and Lucky Quilen Cub). Are you going to buy the collector’s edition, Josh? “Yes, but not for the mount and pet.” Josh says that he has a tradition of buying the collector’s editions of games because when he first started buying games he wanted them to be worth more on eBay. Mike B on the other hand couldn’t care less about the in-game items; he just wants the box. If you are buying the game but don’t want the box, get in touch with Mike B; he will buy it from you.

Mike Schaffnit guest hosts the best show on the internet about World of Warcraft. He brings with him Josh Allen aka Lore from Tankspot and Mike B aka Fony from the BFF Report. For more on the MoP collector’s edition, patch 5.1, and Josh’s prediction on Mists of Pandaria‘s release, tune into Legendary!

No. If I really want the mount I’ll buy it eventually off of BMAH.

i have a feeling when people start playing MOP they will be extremely disappointed.  The new area is about the size of Durotar your talents have been downsized so instead of spending talents every level like i used to love you only get a talent every 15 lvls.  Your talents are chosen for you because one talent is pvp another talent is pve.  Your spells are completely different.  You cant access any part of your spell book except for you specific classes spells.  I used to love enhancement shaman and all the totems are gone.  The only totems you have have a CD so now you have to make sure you are always putting them back out.  You cant put all totems down at once so now you will lose dps cuz you have to pick each one and use when needed.  No more windfury totem now you cast a spell that last 10 sec that increases your haste rating by 30% and has a 2 min cd.  The game is ruined for me i thought blizzards Titan was going to be for Casual players but wow has become the game that is the most casual and easiest.  The only good thing about MOP is the graphics are better.  I have two gts 450 crossfired and i was getting 40fps in MOP i got almost 100 fps in Cata.  That will piss people with weak systems off if you cant play swtor then dont expect to be able to play MOP.

    • Old Ben

      > graphics are better. I have two gts 450 crossfired and i was
      > getting 40fps in MOP i got almost 100 fps in Cata.

Going from 100 fps to 40 fps makes it “better”…? :-P

If you mean in terms of visual quality, the number of frames per second is kind of secondary; it’s perfectly possible to have really ugly graphics that render slowly, and very nice graphics that render efficiently.

These days most games run “fast enough” to be playable, but there’s still  a big difference between well-coded engines and not-so-well-coded engines. The reason why id Software became so successful was that their engines looked better _and_ ran faster than pretty much anyone else’s.

      >  if you cant play swtor then dont expect to be able to play MOP.

I’m sure it will be playable on any system able to run WotLK, even if it requires lowering some of the settings. Blizzard doesn’t want to risk losing any clients by forcing them to upgrade their systems (that’s why even the areas revamped in Cataclysm remain pretty low-poly, compared to other games).

There could be some issues with some spell effects not being visible, though. I remember in WotLK some effects didn’t show up if you had “projected textures” disabled, and the original projected textures had a huge impact on the frame rate.

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

The shaman totems are a big change.  Looks like most of the persistent buff moved to the Warrior banners and the Shaman totems are tied to actual gameplay.  Not hearing many players that are happy with shaman changes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Roberto-Rivas/828328057 Roberto Rivas

Earning a new talent point every level so that you can spend it on getting 1% more of some stat or a few secs off a cd wasn’t really exciting, the only time you felt good about lvling was when you can get a cool new ability and now with the new system you automatically get it when you level without having to buy it on a gimmicky talent tree.

As far as totem goes the only reason we ever got the totem rings was because 3 out of our 4 totems where simply buffs on a stick that we have to keep dropping down every time we moved 40 yards it was another clunky mechanics that was there just to give the illusion of choice and variety.

    • Kagitaar

I’ll bite Mr. Troll. The areas are equivalent to any expansion zone. If you think talents are that simple, I guess you are as well. The spellbook…wtf looking at that you can’t find your abilities? Windfury is a passive buff on us. Elemental Mastery is a choice of talent, not the only one.

  • http://twitter.com/Deadalon Deadalon

Im not buying MOP.  I tried several times to play it in beta but I just can not make myself do it.  Its soooo bad.  The talent tree removal is gamebreaking for me.  Secondly my main is getting huge nerfs and just less enjoyable play so I have zero intrest to play it.

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

      Which main were you playing?

    • Old Ben

The old talent trees were completely broken. They pretended to give you hundreds of different possible combinations, but in the end everyone had 90% identical talents.

I’m not saying the new system is perfect, but at least it’s a bit more honest, because it doesn’t pretend to give you a huge choice.

    • Damir Miric

Realy because of talents? I never saw talents in wow work. You had 1 or 2 pvp builds differences were very small, and then you had only 1 dps cookie cutter build. They could make it simpler if they simply made 2 or 3 buttons depending on class. I want to heal, tank or dps in pve or do the same in pvp and that 6 builds for most versitale classes like paladins and druids.

Not that I will play wow just saying that it was always like that now its just officialy 6 buttons :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/lpeace.88 Leo Lamphier

Its a Foo Dog. They just made up a name for it. I knew they would be a mount but I thought it would be the panda race mount. So I’m a little disappointed and its not quite as cool as I hoped.

  • http://www.MasterRenny.com/ Thomas Renshaw

I really dont think the MoP Collectors edition is worth it, i was actually for once looking forwards to it mostly due to the CE mount but was very disappointed in the end product… Even the CE mini pet looks stupid! /golfclap once again blizzard

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

The mount looks good, but the pet is awful.  Hope the pet has some eye-popping (pun intended) animation.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tim.whitehead1 Tim Ginger Panda Whitehead

Do you think the reason why Blizzard won’t support the tool for spectator in Arenas is that they cannot control the possibility of it being used to “spy” on the opposition while the game is in motion? For example: The extra person(s) could warn their team mates when someone is healing.

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

I think it is spying and trolling.  While MikeB comments were fun, there are some nasty people out there.   If you are not at the top of your game, spectator mode is a beating.

  • Old Ben

From an Asian (Pandaren?) perspective you’re in the 3rd square, MikeS.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jason.jenkins.73 Jason Jenkins

as far as that ce mount goes, if you look at that one picture there that glowing round part above the front leg would be a great spot for “ghost wings” to pop out from seeing as how there are no folded wings along its side.  unless they just simply choose to have the mount work like headless horsemens.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kyle-Brigman/1046964174 Kyle Brigman

In the description, I  believe you mean patch 5.0.1, not 5.1.

  • hotpei

hard to believe anyone at all is still playing wow, much less waiting for an expansion with pandas. You should all feel foolish. GW2 ftw.

    • http://www.facebook.com/amy.dooley.50 Amy Dooley

I love GW2, I will play it at release, but there are going to be at least 10 mil subscribers by the time MoP comes around. Where as GW2 will probably hit 3 mil box sales in the first year. I know because you’re off to your own thing you’re oblivious to things that ‘used to be cool to you’, but a LOT of people still like WoW and were just disappointed with Cata.
Liking a game that just happens to be really old, is not foolish. Clearly 10mil + other people agree.

      • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Notice how GamebreakerTV has stayed away from the over/under on GW2 first day sales.

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

GW2 will be fine.  It’s just so uber casual. There will be so few higher level players that try harder content more than once, trying to get anything done will be next to impossible.  Any time anything gets hard, the GW playerbase runs for the hills.

While Im interested in WvW, if I cant find a reg WvW squad, what is the point.

  • hotpei

    in fact, for reference…
Here is a link to the Motorola RAZR, released around the exact same time that WoW first went live.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:MotorolaV3_negro_01.jpg

Anyone still using that ugly old thing?

A lightbulb should be appearing over your head as you put these two things together, then you should be canceling your *cough* sub! Subs…ugg.

  • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Love playing my resto druid in the MoP beta.  Never had so many options on how to configure my character.  With LK and Cata never had much flexibility on how to configure my resto druid, maybe a single talent point and no real choices on glyphs.

With the MoP beta, I get so many choices.   It really depends on the boss encounter, BG or Arena.  I will be tweaking the hell out of my Primary Talents.  Eye of the Storm, I need Typhoon, OMG a resto druid with Typhoon.   For Warsong Gulch,  Mass Entanglement, rooting up to five enemy players while healing the FC, priceless.

Pandaria is huge and gorgeous.  Everytime I log in, I see something new.  Just truly amazing to walk, ride and fly through.  The mountains are spectacular and the Sha-touch areas are earie.  I almost expect a little turbulence while flying through the storms, so much wind, so much rain, love the low hanging clouds.  With the old game engine, its going to take a lot of processing power to do this game justice.  If anyone had problems with Cata performance, MoP is going to drive their PC into the ground.

The dungeons look great, the encounters and fun to play and regular mode difficulty is fine.  Looking forward to heroic difficultly dungeons.  BTW, several of the dungeons have outdoor areas, so the CE mount can still be used there.

The raids look interesting, hope they get the difficulty right before release.

While not a big fan of the pandas, the questing is good.  It’s still WoW questing, so not expecting a lot of changes there.  Do like the quest mini-boss don’t require a group, you can solo them or if more than one player is around you don’t have to be in a group to get credit for the kill.

I do find the story in the first few zones to be soft. Hopefully the re-design of the first zone fixes some of that problem.   Maybe World PVP will bring the necessary tension to the questing hubs.

So looking forward to World PVP in MoP, I resto druid has so many more tools for PVP.  Should be a blast to play.

I think Blizzard has too much bad press and PR for record MoP sales.  Seems like alot of hard feelings out their for a game. Think the open MoP beta was mistake, to many players are just touching the starting area and making sweeping comments about the entire expansion.  Hope the starting area re-design fixes that.  Will be interesting to see if MoP can build buzz over time and see growth over its release. See if it can bring back players to WoW.

If they only made spectator mode for from inside a same guild or people on your friends list. That would be good enough.

blizz is going downhill :/ this is sad… imo it will be even worse because blizz have so loving community (fanboys) that will buy/pay for everything.

weren’t we JUST complaining like 20 episodes of Marmot ago about how blizzard needs to make new stuff rather than following the past?  so there ya go, new mount, new lore, new game.  thats all we asked ;P

  • Old Ben

Not allowing people to transmogrify new weapons to look like their legendaries is basically like giving legendaries a “-1 inventory slot” debuff. It just forces players to carry their legendary with them, and to press a button to equip it in cities.

I wonder if Blizzard’s real reason is not “because legendaries are rare”, but because they know legendaries _aren’t_ really all that rare, and the reason why they’re rarely seen is that people are lazy and don’t feel like carrying theirs around and equipping them.

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Looks like just a management decision not to allow legendary transmog.

When they were writing the design documents for transmog, you have to figure they thought it was a slam dunk decision to not allow legendary transmogs.  Hell, probably had to make sure the ban was in there to get it approved.

      • Old Ben

        Why would “management” care?

It may be completely because I’m a girl, but I love the CE pet. A lot XD’
Never bought any CE’s for WoW, only other games…but I might to it this time because I love the theme and what I’ve seen in the beta. Just wish it were live so I’d have more motive to actually do the daily quests and grind gear etc.

  • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

hotpei, you are just so silly.

  • Old Ben

The reason why some people are connecting their D3 and WoW experience is that they got D3 as a “drop” in WoW. They signed up for the annual pass, and D3 was the loot they got in exchange. They feel as if their subscription (and the time they spent playing WoW while not really enjoying it)  is effectively paying for D3, so when they run out of content, they demand more, oblivious to how silly it looks to see someone complain that Diablo 3 “lacks endgame” because they reached “the end of the game”.

That _is_ the endgame, you idiot. The bit where you stop playing and go do something else.

Of course, Blizzard isn’t exactly innocent, here. They used Diablo 3 as a way to hold on to a lot of WoW subscriptions, protecting their public image and their profits. But as long as people are willing to accept the “Skinner box” game design (boring & grindy gameplay designed to fill time, sprinkled with occasional rewards to keep the dopamine cycle going), is it any wonder Blizzard keeps basing their games on it? And is it any wonder they decided to extend it to the way they do business?

Think of it this way, WoW players: You just got unlucky with the drop. Keep paying your WoW subscription, stick to the grind, and maybe you’ll get luckier next time.

The only way Blizzard is going to change is if consumers stop feeding that cycle. If you don’t enjoy playing Diablo 3 and Dragon Soul, then… don’t. If it’s not fun, do something else with your life. Shoot some heroin, for example; it’s probably healthier.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1260066056 Steven Diaz

Hahahahaha, the heroin part had me dying.

      • Old Ben

That’s a common side effect of the heroin part.

  • Kagitaar

The mount is a Foo Dog/Lion Dog aka the statues you see outside Chinese buildings, it’s supposed to be one come to life. Qilin is the Chinese term, Kirin is the Japanese term (think bad to RPGs Schaff), but both are names for the chimera described which is most often referred to as an analog to the Western unicorn. Also, it won’t need wings to fly if it does, think of Eastern dragons.

I think the mount looks fine, but that pet is fugly. You buy the CE for the whole package, not just the pet.

Looking at the raids so far, to me, they look fine. I may have seen some mechanics before, but as long as they are in different combinations, it can still be a fun encounter.

D3 is a fine game. Sure it’s had bumps but so did it’s predecessor, it’s just been so long that no one remembers them as being a big deal. The new players who just went “Oh, free game!” and expected it to be something it wasn’t are just delusional and need to be educated.

    Three thoughts/Observations:
    1) Mike S should’ve hosted the show in his yellow dress. :)
    2) Maybe 3-4 more months of MoP beta… For some its going to be really old from the starting gate.
    3) Trion: We’re releasing our first expansion for Rift later this year but don’t worry we’re still doing patch 1.9 and 1.10 AS WELL. Maybe Blizzard have just painted themselves into a corner and WoW is just too hard to work on now. Maybe that has a lot to do with the s-l-o-w-n-e-s-s of new content releases. Either that or their best and brightest really have all gone over to Titan.

  • jgelling

I’m noticing a trend here: every show that’s not about Guild Wars has turned *hyper* critical. The attacks on Blizz on this episode were crazy over the top – you’d think Diablo 3 was some kind of failure and WoW was months away from dying based on this, when the reality is WoW is the only MMO holding its own and D3 was one of the biggest hits of all time.

Just tone it down guys – everyone’s excited about Guild Wars 2 but that doesn’t mean Blizzard isn’t still the Apple of the software industry – they release polished and awesome products (eventually) and they’ll adjust to GW2 just fine after the initial mania fades.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=23323284 Heather Kelsey

I have to respectfully disagree.  I want them to be honest.  They’re not here to voice what others think.  This show is about someone asking questions about WoW and then subsequently them voicing their opinions.  I want to know what they really think.  If I wanted to know what I thought, I wouldn’t watch the show.  Simple.

In fact, I understand their frustration.  I’m a Blizz fangirl through and through, and I always will be, but Blizz is far from perfect.  They don’t need to be.  I’m sure they’re doing the best they can with getting Mists out as a polished product.  While I understand and approve of their need to do this, at the same time, I also feel like my last vestige of patience is wasting away.

What I love about this show and news on gamebreakertv is that they don’t force their employees to have a certain viewpoint expressed.  They’re all free to answer honestly.  While I’m sure there are some limitations even on gamebreakertv, there are a lot of companies who can be bought out for the right price and, as such, their employees must be favorable / unfavorable on certain issues.  That sucks.  This way is better.

Imho, keep those unchecked opinions coming.  Keep it real.  That’s why you guys are awesome.

      • jgelling

Sure, they should keep it real. However, in this one episode, they made the following ridiculous accusations:

        1. That raiding in WoW is all but dead.
        2. That Diablo 3 was a huge failure.
        3. That Blizzard is extremely lazy about releasing new content.
        4. That Starcraft 2 is the only respected product Blizz has anymore.
        5. That no one will want the MoP mount/pets.

And this is one episode. Basically, everything on this site has turned into “Guild Wars 2 is perfect and everything else sucks” all day, every day.

Quite frankly, I’m sick of it. They’re alienating people. If they want to be the ArenaNet fan site, good luck to them sustaining that long-term.

      • Spatology

what in the world makes you think a company that gets paid to “hype” games isnt biased for who pays their light bills? IMO if you want honest opinions go find a group of people who arent getting paid to tell you. That, or everyone needs to start donateing atleast a dollar a month so they can be independant of “paying the rent” bias.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=23323284 Heather Kelsey

Again, I have to respectfully disagree.  This is ultimately why: I get paid to do my job, but my boss doesn’t tell me what I can and cannot say.  If I drop the f-bomb every five minutes or other extreme behaviors while on the job, I would most assuradly be kissing my job goodbye or, at the very least, get a firm talking to, but that is the extent of the limitations.  What I’m saying is that getting paid doesn’t ultimately mean getting paid off.  One doesn’t necessarily go with the other.  Saying so is using what is called slippery slope logic; a logical fallacy that simply doesn’t have any basis in argument.  It’s basically saying that because one thing is true (i.e. employees are paid), it leads to another (therefore they are paid off).  You may disagree, and that is your opinion.  You are entitled to trust your judgement on another’s character.  I’m going to trust mine until I see otherwise.

    • Spatology

I, for one, agree. The “hyper critical”ness is also felt in “The Republic”. Everyone on the panel seems good to be there, however, Gary Gannon seems overly critical…

I’m of the opinion that GW2 and company have paid off Gamebreaker. Its gotten to this level of bias.

    • http://www.facebook.com/alex.kykyryza Alex Kykyryza

Only thing you said right is Blizz similarity ro apple :)   same tactic.  make outdated things  and marketing crap out of them so all people who already gor previous somethg feel obligated to buy new one :) )) Even if its  worth nothg like D3

  • Dekin

I had two friends that bought D3 when it hit…..I introduced them to World of Tanks…..LoL we now play that instead of D3. I have played WoW since Wrath and though MoP seems shiny. I am not going to buy it……(Unless its free crosses fingers). That is why I watch Legendary, I am waiting for them to get on one day and be like, “BLIZZARD REBOOTED WOW AND ITS ALL RAZZLY DAZZLY!” Until then….World of Tanks until GW2.
