Gary Gannon, Josh Allen and Olivia Grace return for another episode of Legendary, the World of Warcraft show! This week we’re doing our best not to show the Valentine’s day love with another episode discussing all manner of Warcraft patch 5.2 changes going back and forth with currency, release dates, spending and saving Valor points and Conquest points. This week’s show includes:

  • Are arena teams cool or a hindrance? Olivia had a twitter reply from Ghostcrawler regarding cross-realm arena teams, in which he said Blizzard were debating whether arena teams were cool or a hindrance. What do you think? Would Blizzard really take arena teams out altogether? And should they be made cross-realm? Obviously this isn’t a change that we’re going to be seeing any time soon.
  • We’ve also had confirmation that, with WoW patch 5.2, all the patch 5.0 raids, so Terrace of Endless Spring, Heart of Fear and Mogu’shan vaults, will be made cross realm. Groups will still have to be organized by players, this isn’t like Raid Finder, but does this herald a gradual slide towards the disappearance of realms? Are realms really even relevant any more?
  • Valor points have had some changes. When they released the official World of Warcraft patch 5.2 guide, Blizzard asserted that Valor points would be reset, leading every site on the internet to advise players to spend their valor now. Since then, Zarhym has confirmed that, with patch 5.2, valor will not, in fact, be reset. The best advice now is to save valor, rather than spending it.
  • Conquest points will still be reset, but with all the options, what’s the best thing to be doing with your conquest right now?
  • With his release about Blizzard’s change of heart on valor, Zarhym also mentioned that players who had spent their valor would have time to cap it completely – i.e. to get to 3,000 valor – before patch 5.2 releases. This gives us some information about the patch 5.2 release date – it’s at least three weeks away.
  • Finally, a South Korean player causes waves in the WoW community by exposing the elitism rife in Asian servers. Are WoW players just elitist jerks?

And, of course, we answer your viewer questions! Send your questions in to submit@gamebreaker.tv, we particularly love your video questions, and keep an eye on our facebook to submit them there!

You could die in Dark Age of Camelot while spellcrafting. (Enchanting.) You could overcharge the item and it had a chance to fail. If it failed it blew up. You died. Originally you’d lose your mats and your item. Later you’d only lose your mats.

I really like Olivia Grace as a co-host. But she really needs to let people finish their sentences before she talks. She talks all over people, it’s very rude and awkward. Even though I don’t think it’s intended to be that way.

    Cheers

While that might be somewhat true in this case, if you’ve ever watched some of the Gamebreaker videos she’s done in the past, you’ll notice that it’s often the other way around. The likes of Gary and Mike B. often cut her off mid sentence, while Lore rarely lets her get a word in edgewise. Not that I’m trying to lambaste anyone here, but maybe she’s just trying to say her piece for once?

Could also be a latency since she is over the pond?

      • Ravenstorm

Yeah this was the first time Olivia was like a squirrel on coffee, when she was starting out in Legendary she was so cut off by everyone I felt sad for her.

It was nice to see her like this, flabbergastingly so.

    • Rob Dexter

I don’t, actually, and that’s one of the reasons. I won’t list the others. Frankly, she’s ruined my Gamebreaker experience, dammit. It gets a bit tiring having to mute/unmute all the time… /sigh

I think they are doing away or reducing their realms because of the drop in players actually playing World of Warcraft. They don’t need so many any longer.

The issue with MOP is that GUILDS are dying as a social part of the game.  Thats not how it should be IMO.  But considering that BLizzard makes more money and is not loosing their rep  of WOW dying by not merging servers… its pretty much the only way they can let things go on.

But again – its very sad to see a game developer not admit that when 20% of the playerbase quit like has happened in last 2 years- it will affect the population that needs to be refocused.

    • Kevyne_Shandris

It’s not the guilds dying (plenty exist and plenty are being made daily) it’s how the guild system was implimented, to where now players are ghettoized. No longer will they host a raid to PuR, as there’s no achieves if a 10man has to PuR 4 players. So PuRs are dried up on anything but the top 25 population realms. The rest won’t even get a chance to raid, as their guilds can’t get 8 players to raid 2x a week.

Secondly, the other problem is the community itself. Blizzard allows anything now with little consequences. Bots/dual boxers are everywhere in LFR, BGs and Dungeons now (this morning 2 bots were following me/standing around doing nothing. When players do this out of their selfishness, teams lose. Reported 2, and got them out, but the problem isn’t corrected: only one toon in a public queue per account. No more 40 multi-boxers in BGs or 4 in a public dungeon to abuse the queue system).

Thirdly, RNG. I flat out quit raiding but Sha and Galleon because in 3 years – 3 years — of raiding I only won 1 raid level shield. That’s not even RNG, that’s gambling. I didn’t get WoW to play the craps tables. Time in = some reward out, not waiting 5 years to win the RNG roll on a single shield. If you ever wonder why folks are PvPing more (as it rewards time in for rewards) it’s for that reason. But as soon as Blizzard introduces RNG for PvP gear, watch the numbers drop tomorrow. Even the addicted understand when odds are impossible.

So the problems are a lot more than just raids. And a lot of it made possible by Blizzard’s inaction. They can’t even ban win-traders; MMR exploiters; Paragon and others for exploiting that raid…no, just temp bans for a week, and they’re right back again playing. It shows the kids anything goes, and Blizzard is powerless to stop it (well, except for the devs with their forum ban buttons, that they’ll do endlessly without even a review).

To think that 5.2 is coming in even three weeks… its coming last week of March.  This was just a plot to get ppl to resub – specially the hardcores that have been taking weeks off and not paying their subs.

“Finally, a South Korean player causes waves in the WoW community by exposing the elitism rife in Asian servers” — This is what I told those on the WoW forums, yet they refused to listen.

I’m Asian and understand the perfectionism that’s so ingrained in the culture, and how serious it can become. It’s not even boot camp level, it goes to another extreme. That’s not healthy, especially since this is but a game. In South Korea it’s more than just a game, gamers there can actually make money professionally, but the toll on kids (the many who’ll never be pro gamers – as families expect them to be doctors, lawyers and engineers) is too much.

WoW is marketed to kids, and game and RL has to balance. Kids don’t need to play 18hrs a day/night to be the best in WoW. That was unhealthy in 1998, and it’s still unhealthy in 2013.
