Punishing Mobile Platformer Gameplay on your Smartphone
Meganoid is a punishing 8-bit mobile platformer by Orange Pixel. It’s available for $1.99 on the iOS App Store, or for $2.57 on the Google Play store with a free, ad-supported version available.
Meganoid promises hardcore mobile platformer gameplay for your smartphone, making quite a substantial claim to be “the closest thing to Super Meat Boy on your smartphone”. With 300 levels and 3 unlockable game modes, you’ll certainly have plenty of running and jumping ahead of you. Orange Pixel’s trademark 8-bit style is here as well, lending an appealing retro look and feel to the game. But, can a mobile platformer really stand up next to titles like Super Meat Boy? Or does Meganoid’s old-school charm just leave it tasting stale?

ABOUT THE FIVE FINGER RATING SYSTEM:
At the end of my time with each game I will rate it on a scale of one to five fingers based on my initial experiences. This is emphatically NOT to be taken as a review score, merely a rating of my initial experiences with the game and the likelihood that I will play it again in the future.
5 fingers = This game is awesome! I will definitely play it again, even in cases where I could be playing something on my PC or console.
4 fingers = This game is awesome… for a mobile title. It may not stack up to PC or console games, but it’s definitely worth keeping on my phone for future play.
3 fingers = The game is alright. There’s nothing glaringly bad about it, but it’s not really hooking me either. I might poke at it again in the future.
2 fingers = Something about this game is just not right. I didn’t particularly enjoy my initial time with it and I am unlikely to play it again.
1 finger = F*** this game.
