After Dark Ep18: Would You Pay Monthly For Youtube Content?

Youtube is testing out the idea of subscription based content via high profile channels this April! Would you pay $5 per month for Gamebreaker content?

Mike Schaffnit, Josh Allen, and Darnell talk about how this might change the online video culture and discuss other viewer questions like the new planet in Star Wars The Old Republic that is the only planet to have homosexual themes. It’s a pretty touchy subject, but it might just be a product of the fact that it’s being introduced as an expansion.

The lines are open and the volume is up, so listen up! Caller lines open every Tuesday night at 9PST on Skype… so be sure to tune in live and let YOUR voice be heard!  And, if you missed last week’s episode of After Dark, be sure to catch it here.

A complete list of questions in this week’s show follows.

  • How do you think video games will be used as educational tools moving forward?
  • What would Darnell say to the Star Wars guy from last years Blizz Blues: 12 Days of Christmas?
  • With Ni No Kuni’s success, should more animation studios start taking a crack at making games or vice versa?
  • Why doesn’t League of Legends make use of a voice chat innately in the game like DotA or HoN?
  • What is your favorite combat from an MMO, and what style will ESO adopt?
  • How do you feel about forcing players to cross PvP and PvE to obtain items in game?
  • Will Diablo 3 ever be able to win the people back or have people moved on to games like Path of Exile?
  • With a 5 million sales expectation for Deadspace 3, does the gaming industry have way to high of expectations again?
  • How do you feel about the way Bioware is going to implement SGE in SWTOR?
  • To what extend should parents be involved in allowing their children to play violent video games?
  • How long do you think until video games aren’t looked at as the scapegoat to every problem by politicians?

    Darnell you’re my heroz

I’m just listening at work.  But the video is pixelated on my end.  Running 6mg interwebz, firefox, and reloaded the page.

i have to disagree with Josh trying to equate having to work for a legendary with forcing players to adopt a play style they specifically chose to avoid when they were given the opportunity to pick their server play style of choice in the first place.  he was sort of speaking out of both sides of his mouth when he said he didn’t agree with the dev’s implementation of this while also trying to suggest that players should stop bitching about having to work for their rewards, as if the two are related in anyway.

making pve people go do pvp kind of reminds me WOTLK and a particular overpowered legendary axe that only dedicaded pve players could take early , and i remember taht axe being used in arenas and battlegrounds , and then it hit me. PvE people are Nazy-racists

this is so funny I live in the US currently but grew up in Europe and nowhere but nowhere have i heard these lame excuses and reason to not let kids play video games or watch movies. My parents let me play all types of video games and yet i didnt turn out shooting little kids at schools…. america is becoming soviet russia: Lets censor life soon….. the parents job is the to explain whats acceptable in society not to shelter the child from life….

To support Gamebreaker.  Yes I would pay 5 bucks a month, but it would definitely be nice if we got something bonus from subscribing.  More coins granted a month, for example.

(BTW  wtf are these coins for?)

If subscriptions were introduced into Gamebreaker, I’d love to see a similar model to that of Rooster Teeth, where you don’t need to pay for the main content but you get extra for paying. (So, basically what Thomas Vu said.)

Mike said “there is more of a correlation to video games than dub step inspiring murder”…..Please Mike shed some light on your stupid comment? There has been zero evidence of said correlation since the existence of time and a gaming media presenter trying to seem relevant making up stuff isnt actually helping, congrats you have reached a all new low in my book

Gotta say Lucas from Germany sounds a lot like Klaus in this episode…  xD
