Gary just panders to the masses, he has no opinion of his own. He was excited about SWTOR before it launched because the masses were excited. The moment that sentiment turned around (look at all the people saying its dead and TORtanic) he too changed his toon. He has done it with many many many things and its to keep his fanbase coming back and making him money. Its pure capitalism and money making. DO NOT take his opinion as fact.

This game is showing every sign of dying: mass layoffs, server mergers disguised as transfers, hyping content to come “soon” instead of the almost content-free patch 1.3, and talking about the “incredible value” the product delivers. It all looks desperate to people who’ve seen stuff like this before.

The problems with the game are fundamental design problems: they launched a Star Wars game set in a universe with hardly anything familiar from the franchise and gave players what’s basically a decent single player game with garbage MMO features grafted on after the fact. They can’t fix anything now – there’d be too much work to do.

Constant doom and gloom from Gary. But that’s sort of his thing. At least he tends to get balanced out by more level heads. The game’s going to stabilize well enough to continue. Will it be dominant? If you’re asking that question or believed that it ever would be, then you were never being realistic. End of the day, content is expanding, servers are about to be consolidated, and the game’s on track to remain a presence in the market.

SWTOR announced free to play until level 15. If by the end of the year subs keep droping despite this free trial my predection of 2013 free-to-play will hit the mark.

any Rift patch, and of the 17 FREE EVE online expansions, any GW1 story patch was bigger
