This week Star Wars The Old Republic Lead Systems Designer Damion Shubert drops a bomb of a quote at GDC Online, Patch 5.1 is on the PTR, HK-51 is finally here, and more.

The Republic Ep109: Focused On Legacy

Honestly, I still be subbed if they gave us more species, and same gender romance.

    Also…GARY watch Sons of Anarchy!!!!

legacy sucks! 2 mill people and counting who left agree!! You are wrong damion how many more will it take to convince you of that? For those thinking tor going f2p is going to save the game let me ask you this what do you have to sub for now? they still havent added much endgame sure you have some raids but theres stil no objective based open world pvp. All the focus is in rerolling well rerolling still gets you to the end with nothing to do lol.

What i see happening is a huge surge at swtor f2p launch then the majority of people leaving again when its free <— This game could have really been something but the mountain of incompetence constantly destroying the game is just very sad. This really reminds me of swg when it went to crap lol. Wtb smart competent devs who understand endgame and mmo's

NOBODY… I mean nobody wants more money sinks in an MMO… AKA Legacy. Do we need em, sure. They are needed in MMOs, but if that is their MAIN focus all I can say is
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHA

It is funny how these two fan boys errr hosts still can’t accept their MMO is not a good MMO.. a good single player story game yes, but NOT a good MMO. You can tell they wanna agree it is a car wreck, but their fanboy side won’t let em lol

  • dragontheory42

The balding man at the bottom seems to fan boyish and seems like hes trying to defend it to much.  Lets all be honest, SWTOR failed, and it failed pretty hard.  It may not have failed as hard as Secret World but It didnt make it a year untill it took a different business model.

imagine going to a restaraunt with a well known good reputation its bought out by a franchise you go in the restaruant and theres no more meals and there showcasing buttered toast. You go to a restaruant for a nice meal not buttered toast. So you go to leave and the new manager tells you on the way out hey we have buttered toast its our best meal. Well most people would say i dont go to a restaurant for toast. Legacy=toast

Just saying, you guys should be their “thought process” team for all changes. Kind of like a filter to their stupid ideas.

People assumed it was going to be ‘like’ WoW, ‘like’ Rift.  They never said it was going to be heavy end game, they did say you would want to play the other stories.  People bought a mustang expecting it to haul crap like the f-350.  That’s not a marketing problem but a consumer problem.

MMO doesn’t mean heavy end game content.  Expectations are a bitch and instead of finding a game to fit their own gaming needs they want to put that hitch on their mustangs.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shawn-Hargrave/100003202374593 Shawn Hargrave

Yeah but ford didnt advertise the mustang/f 350 like bioware/ea did lying thier asses off all over the place saying crazy shit like gabe with ilum advertising 100vs100 and all this wild stuff. They pretty much screwed themselves thier. You need endgame regardless of being a big or small mmo. Getting multiple alts to cap still leaves you with very little end game. End game is where the moneys at not rolling alts.

Legacy was a big nothing for me and now it will serve as a platform for one to silly spent  their cartel coins. Game has no real direction they are just trying a couple of things and hope some of them might work.
IMHO, what they really need to work on is open space combat PvE or PvP. This will bring a ton of players back along with adding content in a timely manner. Oh and fixing some bugs and performance might work too.

Honestly the treatment of ftp features posted recently seem very well handled.  I guess I for one would have to say that swtor IS becoming a great mmo.  I have gw2 (a great game in it’s own right) and have been playing that very rarely.  I’m in a solid micro community within the game, (i.e. my guild). we raid often, and know each other as well as we would’ve in a game like WoW.  I’m certainly no “fanboy” of the franchise.  While I had enjoyed the movies, this game is making me interested in lore aspects within the game more than WoW ever did.  I’m seriously considering buying the $40 swtor encyclopedia to browse through while I’m lounging around.  Swtor consumes all but a fraction of my 20 hours a week gaming time and I’ve really been enjoying the current endgame.  Black Hole dailies and leveling alts in wzs are some other things I now do in game on the regular.  Class balance seems to be as good as could be expected atm also.  In my opinion when ftp hits every gamer should get swtor.

Watching the direction of this game is like a parade of bad ideas, executed with foolish pride. This game is my greatest MMO disappointment.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shawn-Hargrave/100003202374593 Shawn Hargrave

your telling me. It could have really been something but thier view is such a narrow minded view and its thier way or the highway.

The way the game is it would have been more succesful if it wasnt a suposed mmo. They should have created and sold it like mass effect and dragon age and left the mmo part out or not mention mmo altogether. It has some mmo fatures now but it is an no way an “mmo”  The way the game is with the worlds and how its set up im not sure it ever will be sadly.

Just sucks then on top of it you have swg that still even now is a 10000 times better then swtor will ever be = (

I’m starting to dislike this show. When it comes to SWTOR Gary becomes way too subjective and personal which annoys the hell out of me. Focus Gary. FOCUS! I’m not saying to kiss the game in the behind, because there’s obviously way too many things wrong with it, but don’t push your ideas out. It’s becoming tiresome to listen to you complaining all the time. Show’s awesome, keep at it, but keep it objective! You did it for ages, you can keep doing it now if you want.

    • David Alcon

I still watch the show, but its really lacking since Ed left. No offense to the other hosts, but since Gary doesn’t play it and Justin is kinda biased (he spends entire episodes biting his tongue), meanwhile Larry does offer decent opinions but a lot of his soundbites are rehashed from previous episodes’ discussions.

I will say though, Gary getting worked up this episode was very refreshing. I’ve been tired of the hosts playing patty-cakes with the serious issues facing SWTOR. Sadly, its been awhile since we’ve seen any good news come out of the Austin camp.

I hate to sound rude, but i always confuse two of their names, but the balding guy on the bottom left just screamed fanboy in this one. The game is not in a good way. The other two are willing to converse about it, like a show should. The bottom dude just stammers and looks like he is thinking “w-what if my traffic goes down”.
    Damn shame Ed left.

I watched this show from the start, but the recent departure of Ed, and the annoyance of having to deal with Justin Lowe more has gotten overwhelming.  Gary is trying to spark conversation and make an interesting show, but Justin keeps complaining “I just talked about this” or “I’ve already said this several times”.

Justin, throw your co-hosts a frekkin bone, man, and at least try to carry on an interesting conversation.

justin has that site and is hoping for the best. Unfortunately carebears will support tortanic and deny theres an iceberg. Gary is at least bieng real about it. I only wish gary went on about that stupid legacy comment lot more. Justin with darth carebear site…sigh shakes head
