Developers of Star Wars: The Old Republic have threatened us with the Legacy System since before launch, and now with Update 1.2, they have come through with their promises. The Legacy is here. However, the epicness of this game-altering addition is yet to be determined. In fact, our panel of experts can’t decide on what it thinks. Multiple parts of the system are great; however, the panel can’t come to a consensus on if the implementation is satisfactory.

The Republic dives into the sea of Star Wars: The Old Republic news every week and doesn’t come up for air until it has gathered every oyster. Gary Gannon has gather the leading media personalities from the galaxy of TOR including Larry Everett from Massively, Justin Lowe from Darth Hater, and Ed Park from Taugrim.com in a show called The Republic!

There was not enough real innovation in that game to hold my sub. It felt like it was released to compete with WoW from 2004, not wow from 2012. Futhermore, while I liked the idea of fighting more than one mob at a time as it did feel more heroic, it also made it painfully obvious that the enemy NPCs were just standing there waiting for you to kill them. Of course that’s true of most MMOs but having them grouped together, perfectly spaced throughout the landscape was a poke in the face every time I saw it.

    unicycle bagpipe  mount

the thought of a powertech hauling ass across a pvp zone on a unicycle bagpipe mount made me fall over laughing, thank you

I’m subscribed until April 18th and I’ve maybe played a total of 15 hours in the last 3 weeks, maybe.  I regret not just going with one month, but i figured the game would hold me that long.  Meh, I’m just waiting for GW2 and if that game doesn’t hold me then I’ll just stick to Fps, Rts and mobas.  I might just be losing interest in the gerne as a whole, but we’ll see.  I’m pretty sure when my sub is over so is my journey with Swtor.

  • Scrivean

We are still limited in that we only have 8 slots. They have said that more races are coming in the future which limits our space even more as we will have to leave a slot open on our main server if we want a specific race/class.

Dang, that big of a patch, kinda feels like swtor is finally getting out of open beta

  • http://www.facebook.com/Vilicus Jason Haigwood

<3 Portland, Darth Vader/Bagpipe/Unicycle keeping us weird.

Looking forward to sending gear across faction to my alts however, if they are opening that up, they may as well open up the GTN to work across both factions.  I can understand why they are separate in terms of story, but people are just going to buy things on the cheaper GTN for their server and transfer the stuff back over to their toons anyway.

Also, last week you guys mentioned something about world pvp drops from players you kill as reward for bringing them down.  My concern with that is that its just going to grief lower level players.  Can you imagine waiting on Tatooine for that hot air balloon as a level 25 only to have some jerk level 50 come along and kill you for a pvp token?  Currently there is kind of an honor system when it comes to things like trying to reach datacrons, and that type of stuff, I dont want that to go away.  I'm hoping there will be a 1 token limit in a given amount of time from that one player killed and drops will only come off of a player 3-4 levels below yours.
Anyways, great show guys.  Been watching you guys since your episodes were in the 30's, took a break from watching for a while after launch but I'm back!

This show has turned into one massive whine-fest about SWTOR. I mean come on. Can we get some good game commentary next time, instead of show after show, all you guys do is complain and whine about the game?

You all are playing it for crying out loud. Show name should be changed to “Cry Babies” instead. Give me significant commentaries please.

  • http://twitter.com/blinkwinkflake Incognito

And stop trying to play it cool or whatever. Come on, I’m sure Justine or Mr. Massively man who were there at the summit were extremely excited over the 1.2 announcements. Weren’t you guy gleeing? Truthfully? But for the past two shows, you guys act like, “Oh whatever it was nothing, I’m cool”. Seriously. I bet you guys got goosebumps when the trailer played.

When you guys discuss a new feature or something at the game, even Gary keeps on nit-picking and comes up with something whiny. God.

  • http://twitter.com/blinkwinkflake Incognito

If the objective of this show is to help promote the game or strengthen its community, which I thought it was when I used to enjoy it, then you guys are doing a horrible, horrible, horrible job. If you guys don’t enjoy the game anymore – then stop doing the show. If not, then, please, make it a community show again. Make it about the game again. Talk about certain features, provide insights, tips, tricks, guides, etc. Talk about mechanics, educate your audience, or spark a forum to discuss more things about the game. Rather than spending a whole hour whining and complaining.

    • Randy McRandom

Sounds like someone is mad that the Legacy features (and really many other ones) are not all that special or will bring back lots of people to play, and is taking it out on the show simply for pointing that out.

    • H S

Even the pro tips guy for SWTOR quit this week. The radio podcast for the Guild invite was like listening to a funeral, talking about how every guild leader there were crying about losing members and the only ones gaining were those who ran community events to increase the social deficiencies the game inspires.

So don’t blame these guys for feeling what the game projects, blame the people who made the game. It’s not like they aren’t trying to like it, but it is quite hard to do.

    • http://www.facebook.com/jamiemccutchen1 Jamie McCutchen

I think you are missing something that these guys (and let’s be honest, the majority of SW:ToR players) are feeling right now, and that is DISAPPOINTMENT! Sure, this patch is adding a lot of things to the game, but nearly everything they are adding should have already been there at launch. This game HAD so much potential but they clearly have missed it and this patch is not going to save it. If you still enjoy the game, that’s great and I hope this patch adds to your enjoyment. But for me (and I’m pretty sure many others) this game really left me feeling completely disappointed and I honestly don’t think it will get much better. To me, the game is flawed in many of it’s core mechanics and those are not going to change. So yeah, it’s tough to keep up the “fake” enthusiasm when all you are feeling is the disappointment.

    • kyle robinson

OMG are you serious its people like you(blind fanboys) that make these MMO’s fail. Its obviously swtor need a lot of work and to blindly ignor that fact and just say the game is great is foolish. These guys are cridicts they are supposed to be objective. Meaning they take no sides and try to present facts the pros and con’s based on the vioce of the community for daid game. I’d wouldn’t watch this show if i felt the panel was nothing but fanboys and would support the game no matter its flaws. So no i totally disagree with you bro.

    • http://twitter.com/lifensoul Steven Whiting

It was never about promotion, it was about an objective view and that’s why this is good because it points out the good, the bad and the ugly. And doesn’t blindly believe in the game and believe it’s amazing and great (which it’s not).  It’s fanboys like you that will make it fail as you’ll just continue to enjoy the shit and keep saying it’s fine, when in the back of your head, you also think it’s shit but refuse to believe it.

      Be objective, be open minded.

While I am glad they are adding in more things, it is too late for me. i have not logged into the game in almost a month. I am over SW:tor and this is not enough for me to want to log back in.

  • Krzysztof Kotarba

i tryed SWTOR… it’s boring game, soo boring i played like 14-15 h and i’m done with this game for the rest of my life.

  • http://twitter.com/Patrikules Patrick Hargan

2 things mentioned in this episode that Bioware is doing to help faction imbalances. 1 – Legacy species unlocks (they show a chiss smuggler & a Sith Jedi). 2 – allowing people to send gear & credits across faction to their ‘new’ characters.

  • kyle robinson

If swtor lasts its not going to capture real MMO players. It will capture the wii gamer meaning the casual family orientated player. The reall MMO’er will despise this game because for a MMO swtor sucks and sucks bad. This legacy system sounds like the biggest time sync to hit mmo’s since FinalFantasy 11. To be honest the majority of players will not level for than 2 alts to 50. The benifits of the lagacy system only worls in qsting mode(worthless). This game isn’t really an mmo its more likea single player online game that you can team up with other players “if you choose”. Compared to real MMO’s like Rift SWTOR is fail. Whats the point of the legacy system that hold no bearing on endgame. I’m so glad i canceled my sub and based on the 1.2 info I won’t be returning anytine soon if at all. As long as endgame is not the focus and continues to be extremenly easy this game is only going to retain the WII crowd.

  • GammaWolf

The problem with this show is that its fairly obvious the people on it barely play the game.

Ed has the best game knowledge that people care about, but only contributes a few minutes per episode.

The show would be better if it just stuck to the news and was 15 minutes instead of nearly an hour of mostly uninspired chatter.

  • http://twitter.com/lifensoul Steven Whiting

The credit idea for the legacy system is shit.  It’s clearly to get rid of millions of credits they know people are sitting on to sort out the economy.  It’s bollocks.

  • http://twitter.com/lifensoul Steven Whiting

Gary, from SWTOR, not the show, is talking bollocks about the economy.  Obviously not wanted to admit it’s currently shit because then they’d have to actually fix it.

Regarding mail to opposite faction, would be perfect for underworld trading. I dont know if its a bug or intended but im constantly getting schematics for stuff wearable by the opposite faction only. Its been pretty frustrating. It happens on my Empire charactor and Republic.
