SWTOR healers are going to be in even higher demand; shame they were nerfed!

The Jesus Patch is growing; before it could rip the arms off a gundark, now it’s ripping the legs off medpacs in PvE. Only one use per fight now, but in PvP you can use them twice as often, frustration ahead?

Smaller rai – I mean Operations mean tighter teamwork perhaps, but does it hinder classes which lack utility? Mercs and Commandos have a lack of in-combat rez, does this damage their viability?

Spaceships in space combat missions will now be visible! Yay! Hold on, do we even care?

Damion Schubert asks us to wait and see about planetary commendations. Other than making a fun list of “places I’ve been to,” isn’t it about time those commendations found a good home?

To lead you through this hive of scum and villainy, we have Larry Everett from Massively, Justin Lowe from Darth Hater, and Ed Park from Taugrim.com in this week’s The Republic.

    “Space Ships are now visible”
There was a bug on the PTR where you would enter a space mission and your ship would be invisible. You would just see the lights behind the ship and nothing else.

Where’s Gary ? he has been MIA for a while.

    • http://twitter.com/lifensoul Steven Whiting

I believe he’s having a break.  He’s good but I’ve always said he needs to learn to NOT interrupt all the time, which he has a bad habit of doing, this guy doesn’t.

i agree with mr. park. i eat warzone med packs like pez and am not quite sure why theyre taking the pvp vendors out of the warzone. ive often ran out in a match and bought them at the graveyard. i also dont like that theyre taking them out because sometimes im at the pvp commendation cap and everything i obtain in that match is wasted, with the vendor there i can at least buy something or swap around some commendations.

debuff for leaving a warzone is great. i think they need to implement an “opt out” deal where you can opt out of certain warzones, or at least add a specific warzone queue. i do agree they need to implement it in normal warzones.

once again i agree with mr. park on the commando/mercs interrupt. i personally think they are some of the toughest healers to take down and if one of being guarded by a tank class then they are even harder to kill. i think there are possibly too many cc abilities in the game as it is so i hate to say it but i really dont want to see them adding more this early in.

The entire section on the transferring of commendations… gotta say, need to do a little more research guys… almost if not all of the stuff you can by with commendations is BIND ON EQUIP, so why bother transferring commendations when you can just mail the actual mods equipment ect.? Love the show, but ya…

  • http://twitter.com/dularr the Resto Druid

I think 1.2 patch is going to be awhile. The bugs in the PTS are troublesome.

  • http://twitter.com/cipero Matt Cipriano

good show guys…one suggestion tho is to equal out the volumes a little bit..had to turn it up to hear justin and taugrim, but when mike came back on it like blew out my speakers. not really, but damn son making me spill my ramen.

  • Jacob Topczewski

Heads up guys, the equipment may be BOP but the mods, enhancements, armor ect. is BOE so that stuff can be sent to an alt, also a good use is buying the mods ect and selling them on the GTN for LOADS of creds cuz they sell really well!

  • tommythepower

Enough with the sith huttball gameplay while you talk.Just annoying.

  • Nelfein

Don’t worry Larry – I’m leveling my sage since lev 11 soly with PvP and class quests. In a majority of times I am the top healer in my pugs… since lev 11 :D But its a damn hard life for a healer as noone protects me… but the Jesus patch suppose to bring medals for healz (jupi! :D )

  • Jediwolf

    Class story will
    as Larry puts it
” Jump ahead ” THIS YEAR.  A lot of people have failed to mention in many many podcasts and newsreels across the internet  what Bioware  announced at the Guild summit. STORY COMPLETION before the end of 2012. Many people are moaning ( me included) that the class story endings in places are lame …well they are not the end  they are the end of a chapter. Bioware intend to give us all full Class story completion ie …up to  end of chapter 6 by the end of 2012. If this is true its gonna be  a very busy  and eventful year  once 1.2 puts the game where it should have been at launch.

    • MMO_Doubter

1.2 should be a big improvement, but space is still a joke. SWTOR still needs fixing.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ronny-Sunrock/100002737688676 Ronny Sunrock

At the guild summit Daniel Erickson sad that they are working on new stuff for space but it’s still a secret what they are doing and when it’s coming.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=518607879 Christopher Mitchell

I can’t stand when games launch a “patch” and it includes things that had no reason for not being in at the real “launch.” A game should be complete when it is released, especially if you are buying the box and then paying a monthly feed on top of that. I have not tried ToR and they lost any chance of me ever trying it.

  • MMO_Doubter

Tera is NOT going to be major. I played the beta.

  • MMO_Doubter

Been playing SWTOR for about a week, now, and SWTOR NEEDS side kicking.

As for playing on rails? Yeah I find it annoying when I make ‘choices’ in a cut scene, and don’t get to decide if I accept the quest offered. I got some of that in console RPGs, and never liked it.

  • Avan Gore

Good to know that WoW level trolling is in full swing on The Republic too!
    “Healers don’t heal in PuGs”
Saying such a thing makes you look pretty clueless to actual healers.
    /facepalm

    • Larry Shaddoe Everett

Generally speaking, they do not… It’s an exaggeration to compare it to pre-mades, where healers play their roles very, very well and are defended very, very well.

That said, I was testing the new warzone this evening, and we had an incredible healer in the group. Alexis, I think, was his name. So it happens, just not as often as most would like.

  • MMO_Doubter

Okay, here is something I posted on MMOFringe:

Personal story is for SOLO RPGs.

Not only is it unneeded for MMORPGs, it is actually detrimental. It divides the player base.

WORLD story – advanced by group actions is what MMORPGs need. Ironically, the way solo RPGs (particularly JRPGs) work. Change the world by your actions. Since you are sharing the world, the actions need to be MM actions.

A cluster of hermits is NOT a society.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=518607879 Christopher Mitchell

I respectfully disagree, though in the discussion of ToR I can see how it was detrimental. I have heard from pretty much everyone I know who has played it (cus I havent) that it may have been a single player game if it wasn’t for raids or pvp. Though I have to say for myself, I love the player stories in what you call JRPGs but the downside for them for me is the fact they are not online… Having a persistent world, alone… makes no sense to me and is no fun. For instance I love Skyrim, but the fact that I can’t play a co-op or online at all makes it not hold my attention for very long and I can barely progress through the story because I don’t play it that much. My online friends desire my attention and I enjoy playing with friends more than I like playing alone.

You CAN, in fact, buy mods/hilts/barrels/enhancements with left over commendations and send them to alts/sell them.  I’ve done this with my left overs, so I don’t really have an issue with the commendation system.  I do get annoyed by the bug that won’t let you keep the list minimized.

  • http://twitter.com/Patrikules Patrick Hargan

So they are making health potions only usable once in combat? what if your fighting an assassin/shadow tank or a operative/smuggler healer that takes longer than 1.5minutes to kill and then they can use their incombat stealth to break combat, reset the timer, and use 2 potions in 1 fight.  Think they have thought about that from a balance perspective?

    • MMO_Doubter

If they cared about balance in PvP, they wouldn’t have stealth classes in the first place.

  • GammaWolf

You call the episode Medic! yet spend about 2 out of 74 mins talking about the devastating healer changes. I guess its because only Ed is at endgame and he doesn’t heal.

There are several huge threads on the main forums with dozens of people cancelling over the issue. Class balance is 10x more important than any of other 50000 things being changed to most people, especially when the class they spent hundreds of hours playing is being hugely changed.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=518607879 Christopher Mitchell

You sound like you are already fully informed about this issue so what are you complaining about? I am actually surprised they still do this show since no one actually associated with gamebreaker still plays it. The guys on this show have to be brought in to do it from other sources. Except Mike but even he kinda sat back and let the other 3 guys discuss stuff when they went off cus he has no idea what they are really talking about besides the fact that they were talking about somewhat basic MMO concepts.

      • Larry Shaddoe Everett

         Hi,

Larry Everett here. I write for GAMEBREAKER and play SWTOR. And Ed Park does livestreaming on this site. They introduce me as being from Massively because that’s where my weekly SWTOR column is.

I don’t like to “prove someone wrong” But I also don’t want to give the people who might read your comment the wrong impression.

On top of that, we do bring in people from other sites to broaden the perspective, which is why I was brought in in the first. I liked it so much here that I stuck around.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=518607879 Christopher Mitchell

Yeah sorry about that, I need to stop preemptive commenting because I made that comment only like a quarter of the way in and I pretty much realized my error as the show went on. Mike might actually still play for all I know. There isn’t a “delete comment” button that I could see and I only just now realized I could edit it to delete it =(

And don’t get me wrong, I like that they bring in people from other sources and sites. It doesn’t irk me at all and I really like all that Gamebreaker does.

        • MMO_Doubter

Glad you did too, Larry. You are one of the best commentators on GBTV.

What’s up with the Thrall statue in a SWTOR show!!!!

    • MMO_Doubter

Well, it IS a WoW-clone, after all.
      ;)

  • http://twitter.com/lifensoul Steven Whiting

That’s an insult to say medics don’t heal in PUGs.  I’m a medic and play in PUGs and always heal.

  • Roblerw

wow i just realized the voice on that Navy announcement is Andersons voice in Mass effect

  • http://www.facebook.com/prgx52 Pat Are Green

On Warzones: on SWtOR, I didn’t have problems with leavers in WarZones. also I have joined into games where we have been winning literally half the time. I joined 27 games where we were winning when I joined and 27 where we were losing, once I hit 50. It was probably about the same for under 50s while leveling.
