We promised more talk about free-to-play in Star Wars: The Old Republic. But bigger news has hit the proverbial fan: Grandaddy George Lucas sold all of his intellectual property to entertainment giant Disney! LucasFilm, Industrial Light and Magic, Skywalker Sound, and of course, LucasArts are all now owned by a mouse — Mickey Mouse, that is.

Each week, the inquiring minds and media experts explain and predict the future of BioWare’s great MMORPG SWTOR. This week as always, GAMEBREAKER’s own Gary Gannon is joined by Massively Columnist Larry Everett and Darth Hater Editor-in-Chief Justin Lowe. Do not miss a single exciting episode of The Republic!

Is it a good investment to be subbed pre-F2P launch for the next month or so?

    • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Seems you have to be subbed to collect your bonus cartel coins.

      • http://www.facebook.com/tomi.turku Tomi Turku

That right there is the straw that broke the camel’s back for a lot of players, myself included.

    • Damir Miric

That sub for 1 month to get coins you earned by beeing sub for months before is a clear scheme to get 1 more sub month from people that played swtor before. I wont do it just because they did it like that.

      Its pathetic.

    • Damir Miric

I thought to check out swtor when it goes F2P, but now they did something I wouldnt even expect from EA.

      Screw them /uninstall

I could be reading it wrong but it also looks like people like me would only get a months worth of coins if subbed at launch of free to play.  Because I was in game on early access, then subbed on a per month bases.  But I’d sub, then cancel.  Once the next month came, if I still liked the game, I’d resub.  Been doing that since launch.  But on my account page it suggested I’d only get a month of coins.  Not sure I’m reading it right though.

      • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

No, I checked my account.  I’ve got 1600 cartel coins waiting, but EA will only give them to me if I sub before launch or sub by Dec 20 (new info) after launch.

        • http://twitter.com/lifensoul Steven Whiting

Same on mine.  And looks like I get no coins for all the other months I was subbed.  One big fat con and fail.  Watch SWTOR burn by end of next year.  And then Bioware will be broken up into EA.

WTF is Justin talking about with Celebration being made up of mostly children?!? Seriously, when is the last time he attended a Star Wars Celebration event? I’m betting never based on his statement during this show.

  • InvaderMig

Hahaha, half way through Justin is just sitting there thinking how did our show get hijacked by Rift.

I’m happy to see Star Wars go to Disney simply because it may mean we get something good after the prequels. Who knows, maybe they will do a great job. I’d rather have the chance than not have it all. My only apprehension is that Disney may make these as “kid friendly” or even worse than the prequels were. Disney’s name is synonymous with that and i think that’s what most people are afraid of. If they make something that isn’t as cartoony and obviously meant for children as the prequels were then i’ll be happy that it’s at least something closer to the original star wars than the Saturday morning prequels. I watched the original trilogy as a kid and i liked it, as i’m sure many others did. I just don’t understand why they felt the need to completely baby proof the next trilogy for a new generation when it didn’t need it. Don’t screw with a good formula. I hope they succeed. If they don’t, oh well, i can still watch the originals.

This is getting ridicules  your hatred for Star Wars The Old republic knows no bounds Gary.  Seriously this show has turned into a hate-fest.  How about talking about the game itself and the multitude of stuff that happens everyday in the game and community!  Stop focusing on the negativity.   Also I noticed the Trion now sponsors Gamebreaker and voila the Sanctum returns. You have the gall to chastise MMO’s about cash shops and pay to win, yet you yourself are for sale, and companies can pay game-breaker to get favorable commentary, where are your ethics!  Game-breaker Pay to Podcast since 2012!  P.S. Justin and Larry you both rock!

wheres the good in swtor? Its a pos and theres nothing to talk about. Seriously i give them props for even doing the show at all the way things are going. How are they supose to do a positive show when the game has gone so badly? Justin and larry as you can tell are even having a hard time trying to be positive about the game lol. Need to be realistic with things to. How would look to be doing a show going oh the republic is awesome and all this stuff. When come on man lets be honest over a million people have left it.

As for the rift and there starting up sanctum. To be honest i do agree with your point somewhat. Rift does however have an xpac coming out to be fair to. If they had just started up the sanctum and there was no xpac or anything going on then i would agree more with what youve said. Maybe when swtor tryes to squeeze out an xpac with this new planet theyll do a show on it. Its just hard to do a show about swtor when its going so badly and there just isnt much to talk about really lol. Like i said im really surprised theyre still doing an swtor show.

      • SaksMan

The point I was trying to make is Pay to get Positive commentary… I respect your opinion about SWTOR, though I do enjoy the game and have a different opinion.  Rift was hardly ever mentioned on gamebreaker, and then they sponsor the show and wham they get their show back…. fishy…

I play Rift, great game it has its own issues but they are working them out… I just find the negative commentary a bit much, that’s all. :0

        • InvaderMig

Well the Sanctum is only going to be for the month of November unless there’s enough to continue the show.  Trion is sponsoring them because Gamebreaker did great work getting the games name out there back when it first launched.  It’s business plain and simple, but lets not pretend that the enthusiasm for what Trion is doing is not completely justified and worthy of at least a couple new shows.  I never played Rift passed beta and even I am glad to see the Rift show come back, even if it is for a short time.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shawn-Hargrave/100003202374593 Shawn Hargrave

yeah i hear ya but theres not much good coming out of swtor lately i think even if bioware payed gb to do a better show or try to pay gb to be more positive about the game it would be hard. Thats the real issue is there just isnth that much good to talk about. The f2p model is aimed at anoying people away from the game more then its aimed at enticing people to sub. I used to be positive about swtor and i used to defend the game but if they dont care about thier own game and they spend thier time runnng off customers i cant support or be positive about that. I agree with invadermig i was wanting tor to be my home mmo but my my entire guild and 45 plus people i know agreed with me that it wasnt and left.

… >__> Did you watch the same video I did? Gary hating? Maybe you haven’t heard him talk about Final Fantasy 14…

  • Xelious

I always knew mickey would become a jedi after playing kingdom hearts

  • nick bentley

Disney should go ahead and make three movie trill about starkiller.

  • Dragoon email

Did no one else find it sick to celebrate Wookie Life Day with a Czerka Speeder? Was this a slip by Bioware or do the guys left a Bioware have no clue about SW lore and their own games? Kotor (as Revan you freed Kashyyyk) Maybe this was just the joke of a twisted mind.
