The Republic is back with a whole lot of SWTOR news and drama!

This week on The Republic, the guys welcome gest host Matt Bentlage, who brings some PvP knowledge.

But first, players have a bone to pick with Bioware changing the some cosmetic Cartel Market items.  Of course, the problem isn’t that the items were changed, but that they were changed after people bought them.  Of course, players weren’t happy, so find out how Bioware dealt with the issue.

In other SWTOR news, we have patch notes!  Good news guys, you can now purchase additional character slots with cartel coins.  Of course the cost varies depending on whether you are subscribed or not.  And, there are some more details on update 1.7, Return of the Gree.

We also learned that Gary is very fascinated with multiboxers, hackers and cheaters and the psychology behind why people enjoy doing those things.  While, multiboxers aren’t really being lumped in with hackers and cheaters, it is another aspect of the hobby that sparked a lot of conversation.  It’s something that people pay a lot more money to do that an average player would.

As for hacking and cheating, there’s some debate as to whether it’s a cut-and-dry issue or if there are some circumstances where doing those activities are okay.  Say…. If you’re wanting to troll someone who is screaming spamming the chat with racial slurs?  The case is made for both sides of the argument, but who — if anyone — is right?

And as always, the hosts answer  some of your viewer questions.. Or, in this case, you guys answered one of ours.

As always, if you missed the last episode of The Republic, you can watch it here.  And don’t forget to tune in every week for more SWTOR news — and whatever else the guys end up talking about along the way.

  • scottsummer

One of the best episode in a while.

Hackers are “trolls”.  But there’s nothing wrong with gaming in an altered state of mind!  How dare you lump those two groups together!  lol

It’s bad when your tank is so high, he starts falling asleep.

    good show

Multi-boxing stinks. There’s no art or skill to it, just an unfair numerical advantage.
If anyone disagrees, I will fight them. Just them mind you and not 2-10 of their clones as well.

Cheating and hacking in multi-player games is unforgivably despicable and can NEVER be justified. Ever.

Some disappointing attitudes displayed this week in my not-so-humble opinion.

Good to see Gary back and on point as usual.

This was easily one of the best episodes in a long time. It’s nice to see a new face and a fresh perspective on the show.

Hacking and cheating have always been a problem in SWTOR, just not as widespread as it is now. I remember hearing about certain players on my server using hacks to boost stats like critical chance to insane amounts and being banned for it; that was several months ago. If it wasn’t a big problem in the game, BioWare wouldn’t bother to post a warning about it in the game’s launcher.

Performance issues ? Nothing to do with your machine. Game is horribly optimized. Tons of threads about this.

    IT. IS. VERY. WIDESPREAD. :)

I understand that’s the same issue with chat bubbles.  It would require so much coding, it will likely never happen.

    Welcome aboard, Matt!

I <3 Matt! He's my hero for he in knowledgeable. No, I'm not trolling. Yes, his cat is the size of a rather size-able dog.

  • Josh Osmer

The problem’s needed to be addressed in PVP:
    1) not every class/spec has a 1:30 cooldown on stun break. Everyone’s base 2 minutes, though some classes/specs have a talent to reduce it to 30 seconds. Not everyone can get it. This needs to be changed. ALL class/specs should be at 1:30, get rid of those talents.
    2) Sorc Bubble. The stun should ONLY apply to the Sorc themselves, NOT team members they cast their bubble on AND it’s resolve (if they keep resolve, I’ll mention this below) should be increased 100%
    3) Smash should be reduced slightly (and I have a full EWH rage Jugg)
    4) Mercs/commandos need alot of love.
    5) Resolve in general needs to go. We need REAL diminishing returns on stuns AND ROOTS. Roots and slows do not affect resolve AT ALL, then they need REAL DR’s. As for stuns, in regards to what Matt said, yesterday my stun break was down, a jugg leaped in and AOE mezz (8 seconds), a sorc ran in and popped bubble (3 secs – did not white bar), and then an operative flash banged (8 seconds)…19 seconds of not being able to do anything…that is broken.

Also, welcome Matt! Seems like he will be a great addition to the show.

  • Depravity

Matt’s a great addition. Dude’s hilariously chilled out and offers spot on insights.

I’m on Bastion, a PVP server. I’ve been playing since launch and have never seen a hacker. I’ve seen afkers, but rarely.

  • http://twitter.com/dularr Dularr

Good job then, it was very enjoyable seeing his contributions to the show.

  • Joshua Lee

The hacker discussion is pretty interesting. I like that Justin brought up a pretty basic human nature aspect which is giving out judgement/punishment to what he considers to be an evil/douchebagy person.

I’d actually love to see a game based on providing hacking so players can troll, punish; and reward their fellow players. Kind of like a free for all game with no rules except what the player base makes. What players would police the server, and protect newbies? which ones would be criminals?

Justin Try Switching to a AMD System, and see if there is any differnce.

  • http://twitter.com/Spitynko Spity

swtor optimization is a piece of crap, even after upgrading my pc, it runs kinda bad

  • http://twitter.com/NerdnGeekInc Raven Frosth

Good Show Guys btw :) , Justin you Bad Boy, How dare you, to use speed hacks….

  • David Alcon

The dynamic was kinda off with the addition of the guest host, but as far as I know this is the first time he’s done a show so I would be pretty reserved as well. I hope he comes back and is able to offer some more insights on the PvP side of things. I’m looking forward to hearing from someone who is still playing and enjoying the game (Justin has pretty much retired from playing it seems and Gary stopped a long time back).

PvP guy is thinking (oh god they are going to talk about costumes all day)
