    Awesome show as always. :D

  • fenixz

put more spaceships in wow , and u’ll have a better SW game

    • Dreyder

Who are you trying to convince?… I mean… you did just come to watch a SWTOR news vid…

  • Cire72

If people can’t afford 15 bucks a month then maybe playing a MMO shouldn’t be playing video games. MMO’s are the cheapest form of entertainment on the market. Name something you can do 24/7 for enjoyment for that price or less? Don’t order a pizza once a month and you pay for the monthly fee. Don’t buy fast food a couple of times in a month and it’s covered.

Thought the look of the smuggler was kinda blah, they look a little too much a like early from the first 2 progression. The last ones looked much better.

    Good show.

  • Aisor

    Good show as always.
I also agree the game is taking forever to come out, and right now, most of the people I know don’t even care about anything less than a release date set on stone…. Its crazy but a lot of people are following this since Oct. 2008….

Nice episode. Heh Larry wants to see server crash? Call Athene sure he will guarantee it with millions of level 1 Jawas! (I know Jawas not ingame, just sayin’).

  • Niaana

the white cape is going for the look of Lando solo’s friend from cloud city

    • Brokinarrow

      Lando Solo huh?

      • TJO3

He could’ve meant “going for the look of Lando, Solo’s friend from Cloud City.” This is why grammar’s important.

  • Gid

So how come you guys picked the Indiana nob but missed ( what i thought) was the most glaringly obvious Han Solo reference?
He chases the guy into a room full of bad guys, realises he’s outnumberd, craps it and skarpers away as fast as possible.
Was it so obvious it’s not worth mentioing or did you guys really not see it?

    • Pyrofox

I know it was mentioned in the show notes. I’m sure everyone noticed it anyway. When they were talking about what they liked in the trailer, I guess they liked other things more. :)

  • Anthony Balsamo

Thanks for picking my questions again! Awesome show as always :)

    On Beta Weekends:

I feel for Bio ware having to make the un-favourable decisions but i also recpect them for choosing to pull beta for what ever reason to make sure the game is great on release……… but you guys hit the nail on the head, its just at that point where i dont think there is to much more they can reveal and it just neads to come out already!!!

Fingers crossed for holiday 2011 release :D

  • Afotch

If Bioware is smart they will pull a Blizzard and not let the ‘nerd-rage’ influence their testing schedule. It will be ready…when it’s ready….not before. The only PR hit SWTOR is taking is from shows like this that are running on speculation alone. How to churn the rumor mill gents.

I ‘love’ the hardcore QQ community….reminds me of government lobbyists….except without the actual influence. Bioware AND Blizzard don’t actually need the hardcores. The HCs don’t make up the massive numbers of subscriptions. It’s the average-joe’s that pay for these games…and that’s who the companies should be aiming at.

Personally (and I think like most MMO’rs)…can’t wait to try SWTOR….great concept (IT’S STARWARS!!!)….great lore….great gaming company. If it sux…or doesn’t live upto what I’m playing now…then it’s back to WOW….which I won’t be removing my subscription to until I get to SWTOR End-Game and am convinced that it’s better. Won’t pay $30/month for 2 MMOs….not enough time….or $$$.

  • Chris

there was SIGNIFICANT lag in the last beta weekend. the full time closed beta testers are even OUT of the beta. everyone was told to uninstall the client and a new one will be provided sometime in the next few weeks. most folks felt like the beta weekend succeeded in showing the infrastructure was NOT sufficient for the load. LAG was really really bad. almost unplayable. given all that I think they’ve taken things down and doing a rebuild of everything. from my experience will be close to get the game out by end of year.

    • Ares42

Ye, guess none of the guys pay attention to the leak scene (or won’t acknowledge the info), but as you said both the servers and the client had major issues with the up-scaling (leading to both lag and bad performance). Nothing that broke the game entirely, but to the point that doing another weekend wouldn’t really give any new information.

  • Mike

    1,000,000 x 1% actually equals 10,000. GREAT show gang!

  • Jon Donnis

I’m think it was server load issues and/or the fact the BETA client appeared on a free torrent sites. Whether it worked or not, I don’t know. But if it did, that might be why they pulled the current build, so stop the torrent leaks.

  • Demonwar

Testing maybe went well, it’s not like they were short on numbers before. This isn’t a test for ingame stuff, this is stress testing, if that went well (or even if it didn’t then they need to fix the problems first) then they don’t need to test until there is something new and stress that some more.

They are in no rush to test again until the next big build I suspect, which also is wiping character data I believe.

The weekends were a one time thing for each group.

  • Jon Donnis

I think Larry is right with the micro transactions as it might not be what Bioware wants but it WILL be what EA will want. And they’ll force Bioware to stick it in.

    • MMO_Doubter

Yep. There is a saying: When you deal with the Devil, you don’t change him – he changes you.

  • Christopher Weber

Was I the first one to notice the TWIMMO background on all the forum post slide cards? xD

  • zigy54

i cant stand micro-transactions its way too annoying to have to constantly be paying for crap

    • MMO_Doubter

I agree, but there is also a more serious concern. Any game with a cash shop will be designed to ‘convince’ players to use it. That usually includes making it painful to go without purchases. Watch for lower level mounts, and some way to do multi-stop taxi rides.

  • http://thomasaperry.com Thomas

If they pulled the beta testing there is certainly a significant issue impacting performance. Nothing earth shattering, but it would probably be related to networking related bugs, server load, or something similarly large.

Not a major issue, but needed to be fixed.

  • http://thomasaperry.com Thomas

Also, they will most certainly offer a micro-transaction shop… It’s inevitable.

  • Dodgekyle

I wonder if I can get the look of the Dueliest’s final outfit on the Scoundrel??? Cause I love that look, but I think i’m diggin scoundrel more

  • =Ponyboy=

I love SWTOR but please; Either have a SUB-FEE or have MICRO-TRANSACTIONS.
I really hope Bioware isn’t dumb enough to try and sucker the players into both.

As it stands, they are in competition with a game that is sub-free in GW2. There are many friends of mine and others who are already planning on playing GW2 over SWTOR, or on the fence about which one at this point.

Personally I don’t like micro-transactions, and feel that if I am dishing out $60 – $150 for a CE of a single game and then paying on this game monthly, that the whole point of the sub fee should be to cover the cost of content and avoid any further payments.

Now granted, I am looking very forward to this game and TOR edged GW2 out for the game I would invest my time and money in … but just barely. Yet if I wanted to be paying through micro-transactions anyway, then there are other impressive looking MMO’s on the market soon to be released, that look like they may be equally fun to play … without trying to screw me. I would find it difficult to rationalize staying with TOR over another quality game such as GW2.

Saying “Well, it’s Star Wars” is only going to carry so much weight and take it so far, after the competition in the MMO market heats up and with the Free2Play online community picking up steam, as it has lately.

    • MMO_Doubter

I am with you, but the number of MMOs that aren’t trying to screw their customers is getting small. TSW is going to be sub+cash shop.

  • Nerdcommando

Since you asked for it….My Opinion

Bioware having to tell EA investors twice in a month about a release date makes me believe that they are on their backs about it. To EA this game has been nothing but an expenditure and I am sure they hounding them for this to be on this quarters books. The very weekend that they have a successful test I am guessing they will announce a date 2 or 3 weeks diown the line. If Bioware has enough clout they should push for 2 successful weeks in a row. But these investors are greedy so I would guess one.

Bioware can easily charge 15 so they will. They of course will add micro transactions. Don’t be surprised to see a microtransaction being ONE (yes there will be an in game method as well) way to switch your Advance Class.

Again with this “metering” – WE EUROPEANS DONT HAVE BANDWIDTH RESTRICTIONS – COME ON.

  • Idiotank

Gunslinger is a spacecowboy??? I might be reconsidering Sith Warrior

On the subscription prices, there was an article back in April/May talking about $15/mo – Lucas gets 1/3 of all sub fees, it costs $5 per person to keep servers running so out of $15/mo EA/Bioware makes $5/mo profit per sub, pays Lucas $5, and $5 to keep servers up and running

Good show, as usual. I’m actually glad that Justin mentioned the idea of dropping the subscription cost to $10. I’m not as sure as you guys are that we’re going to see microtransactions in SWTOR (I guess I should call it “sweater”, since I’m commenting here)–and I hope we don’t–but if the monthly cost were $10, microtransactions would be a LOT more palatable to me.

That extra $5 a month is really nothing to sneeze at. I know a lot of people out there will say, “What’s an extra $60 a year?” Well, it’s the price of a video game for one thing. But also, when you grow up and you’re shelling out, for example, $50 every couple of weeks for baby formula, you start looking to pinch pennies wherever you can. If I’m not dedicating a lot of time to a game for which I’m paying $15/month, that’s when I begin considering cancelling my subscription until real life becomes more forgiving. At $10/month, it seems a little more reasonable to keep it going just for continuity. It’s almost more psychological than anything else.

  • blah blah

I was in beta… and i know why it isnt come back up.. i would say more.. but i really hope the time is for the better -_-
