A good episode. Mike was a good host and I felt that there was a lot of realistic discussion here. There’s a solid game here with potential still and the challenge now will be provision of content moving forward. And for a guarded as speculation was, it was really refreshing to see discussion that didn’t have a heavy “Chicken Little” tone.

F2P will bring this game back. I know that I’ll reinstall. Not sure if I’ll play it much, but I’ll have it at the ready when ever I feel the need.

    • Spatology

go play gw2, take your f2p model with you please. thanks.

      • http://twitter.com/RoyalGuardClan The Royal Guard Clan

F2P is coming to this game whether you want it to or not.

      • Jay

If Bioware designed a better game (or EA gave them time to), then we wouldn’t even be discussing F2P. I can’t really blame people for not wanting to pay a sub for the game in its current state.

if im honest, im beginning to prefer Mike as a host to most shows, Gary seems to just mess around on all issues it is nice to see some serious conversation from time to time…

    • Matt Korneffel

I agree, Mike S. is a very good host. He is very intelligent, funny, has good timing and you can tell that he does his background research on topics prior to shows.

He leads a show very good, pacing/questions and timing is very good.

Also, his own opinions are generally common sense/logical and even if I disagree, I can see his point of view as he is able to articulate his points well.

Also, I think its commendable to the whole of Gamebreaker.tv (but you can tell by this show and Mike S.) that they are not afraid to actually bring news (unlike other sites who don’t give time to the vast negatives of SW:TOR) regardless of positive or negative.

P.S.: Mike S. should get more respect from Co-Hosts but then again he does fit the role of “Younger Brother” very well and the teasing is natural I suppose :|

    • Dean Scott

I agree, Gary has been going a little Trollolol crazy as of late on all the shows.  Gary! Stop Trollin mon!!

  • tommythepower

Talk more about gameplay like balance and outfits and what future content players want etc etc.
You guys keep talking the entire show about F2P and layoffs and have the game failed every show to a pioint were it just becomes boring watching….

    • Matt Korneffel

Sadly that is the reality, it is the only reason I love Gamebreaker.tv . If you want to hear/watch nothing but positive propaganda about SW:TOR you can go to CorrelianRunRadio, DarthHater or The Instance: ToR Edition.

I mean you can tell how uncomfortable Justin Lowe is in these Podcasts because the hosts simply do not care about SW:TOR personally and thus do not hold back on the actual news and issues. On the other sites I mentioned, all the horrible crap Bioware/EA are pulling don’t get mentioned even…

Well done GameBreaker, and perfectly (seriously perfectly hosted) Mike. Very listenable.

Anyone else hate the new player? Can’t click on the vid to pause it, needs the press of a button on the bottom left :P

  • Spatology

In my opinion, the community team got fired because they where partial and abusive with their powers. I’ve had many run ins with “community team members” and very few where pleasant. Overall, the rest of my experience on Swtor has been great. NEW CONTENT GO GO GO.

  • Matt Korneffel

SW:TOR will go F2P, I am certain of this. This is due to SW:TORs game itself but also largely because of the fact that EA is behind it. EA generally tends to “react” without giving much thought or considerations.

The scary part is also, unlike being Blizzard or ArenaNet etc. EA’s version of a F2P MMO may in fact be very scary. I would not be surprised to see: Buyable Raid/PvP Gear, Content (Ops etc.), Companions … basically DLC.

    • Jay

Yeah, EA definitely seems like the Pay 2 Win type.

  • Sharuko

What F2P will do is make the game peak for a month or so and it will be back to the old population again.  They should stick with the subscription model or lower the monthly cost.  F2P will not help you long term.

    • Jay

Hmm… That doesn’t seem to be the case for other subscription games that went F2P. Those games held more customers over time because of the F2P model. Maybe WOW would make less money going F2P, but that’s a very rare case. There are reports out there proving F2P models to be more successful than subscription for less popular games. Ask Turbine…

      • scottsummer

It really depends on the F2P model, F2P is not the ultimate answer to a sinking ship, while there is quite a lot successful p2p to f2p transition, there is A LOT of unsuccessful one, look at the god awful F2p model by SOE/EQ2 or AoC, their free to play model is an insult.
And moreover, i remember Jason Winter wrote an article mentioned that a lot of F2P success was short terms, only handful of game was able to maintain the success after the transition.

        • Jay

Yes, I suppose there are exceptions to any rule, but it seems a good F2P model is more likely to be a success at this point. Has to be a decent game to begin with of course… Many game’s failure has little to do with the payment model.

  • http://twitter.com/Deadalon Deadalon

Its Warhammer online all over again…  Quit now while ahead.  This game will not be F2P in next 1 year so basicly … its dead.

    • http://twitter.com/Deadalon Deadalon

SWTOR is going through the EXACT same thing Warhammer did in terms of direction.  No1 wants to be in charge of a sinking ship – so all the decent developers go running.

      • Key Foster

It sure seems like it, although I hope not. But they (Bioware) did get help from the Warhammer team……Hmmmmmm.

  • Flyin2012

Part of the problem with SW:TOR is not getting people into the game but keeping them in at end game. I unsubbed last week due to the difficulty of finding people or guilds to play HM/NM ops on a regular basis which were the only real content left for me in the game. I didn’t fancy paying monthly for just doing dailies or going around in circles around the fleet.

    • http://www.facebook.com/davidallmighty David Cohen

Ya my old guild was always tops on our server and in communication with all the top guilds. Slowly all of them stopped playing. A lot in tier one, and then the rest in tier 2. After the mergers we even found some guilds bowing out and finally we did as well. Just a real lack of content for players of a high playing level. And no new raids in sight. We say we would reform when new stuff arrives, but I am sure most of us won’t come back… then again it might be F2P by then.

    • http://twitter.com/MrSunrock Sunrock

You should have asked me.. I know several guilds both on US and EU servers that want to recruit for HM NiM operations.

But you are right about the end game. The problem with SWTOR is the end game. If you’re not into leveling 8 chars up to lv 50 there is not eally mush to do as with 8 man operations you team gear up so quickly that they can’t really keep anyone interested in them for a long time.

And PvP in SWTOR is meh. No open PvP = No PvP at all IMO

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shawn-Hargrave/100003202374593 Shawn Hargrave

The overall problem is swtor will never escape the ghost of swg. Swg was a million times better then swtor will ever be. When you had a star wars galaxies mmo with wookies trandoshans and alien races and rail free space its going to be next to impossible to compete with that. Swtor spends so much time on negative pr and james ohlen mr “we have the best pvp team” lol

    Here you go

Swg = rail free space, space pvp, playable alien races, Sandbox worlds,  Open world objective based pvp

Swtor = space is on rails, no space pvp, no playable alien races  (races are just humans with different colored skins)  extremely linear worlds (tattoine dune sea somewhat open sand box) 4 pvp instanced warzone’s

I agree with the point about paying 15 bucks for dailies and riding the fleet in circles why i cancelled as well.

This game could have destroyed wow if they made it swg2 with voiceovers. Until james ohlen and gabe ametegelo are fired i dont see this getting better those 2 need to be fired yesterday.

How come I cannot connect to Darthhater.com I keep getting the diagnose internet connection screen but nothing is wrong with my internet. I can access the site from my other computer just not my primary I use.

  • Bestow

Put her out of her misery.

It’s funny watching *some* people still defend this game as if it were December 2011-January 2012.
They must be invested knee-deep. Stocks? Merchandise? Ad revenues? Money is most definitely playing a role here.

  • German Lopez

Yikes. This show was kind of embarrassing. Way too much denial.

  • David Alcon

Is this show every other week now, or is it weekly? I missed the last episode and don’t see it posted here.

  • http://www.jimzor.co.za/ James Anderton

I’ve been watching this show on/off since a few months before ToR was released. I even played the game for a couple of months.

But the more I watch the Republic, the more I believe that ‘denial’ isn’t just a river in Africa. Seriously, Mr. Darth Hater, take a look at your website stats. I’ll bet the decline in traffic correlates pretty much in parallel with decline of ToR. It’s just sad to watch the majority of the panel try to justify the current state of the game and BioWare.

WoW is in decline due to it’s age and the current content. ToR is declining due to poor design choices, little-to-no end game content and a game that was essentially NOT ready at launch….
